When your entire ‘message’ can be summed up with “murdering an innocent man because he’s mentally ill and his memory is fragmented due to severe trauma is okay because you did it for your family” and there’s even a line towards the end that’s supposed to be deep that goes like “survivors of child sexual abuse have it hard for their entire lives but maybe we ALL do. Think about that…” maybe you shouldn’t be making movies. Tim Robbins’ character died a horrible and ugly death and suffered the entire movie while Kevin bacon Sean penn were just like well that’s over. Still friends though right? God this was just a mediocre movie until the entire last act just made it disgusting

The acting in this is brilliant across the board but, a) Sean Penn can f*ck off and b) based on this film alone, I feel like if I were to meet Clint Eastwood we wouldn’t agree on a whole lot. This film stressed me out quite a bit, mainly due to Tim Robbins’ part in it. I really don’t understand why Eastwood let this end the way it did, i.e. with Penn’s and Bacon’s characters still acting chummy and Penn’s onscreen wife completely on board with everything. What am I supposed to take away from this experience? That it’s okay to kill an innocent man so long as when you did it you were convinced he was guilty? That you…

Come for a multi-award winning movie, stay for Sean Penn’s biceps. Thoroughly enjoyed this film, I can see how the story telling has inspired other media since. Would recommend, 4/5

It’s still a pretty good murder mystery, but even I’m impressed with myself that I was able to guess who the killer was, pretty early on. Also, Sean Penn was so good in this.

Good movie, probably like the Kevin Bacon parts the most. A bit slow in the middle and didn’t need the last 5 minutes in my opinion.

sometimes i think all three of us got in that car. and all of this is just a dream, you know? in reality we’re still 11-year-old boys locked in a cellar imagining what our lives would have been if we’d escaped. such a perfect description of childhood trauma and the inescapable feeling of being trapped in that memory.

There is no way that people really think this is how grieve is, I mean, is not necessarily a bad movie but it’s not a movie that I can learn something of, you feel dirty, and not in the way that is just too relatable to humanity that you feel that way, no, it’s just so, so wrong. And personally I didn’t even liked the ending, they were so worried trying to make the “perfect” plot twist, that in the end, the ending was mediocre.

Cara q pena do Dave. O nome dele incompleto na calçada… fiquei chorosa

a lot of spinning for a thread so thin you kinda don’t care who the killer is eventually. the end has made me conflicted!! damn.

Honestly the beginning part of the movie wasn’t that bad but it was getting unbearable to watch the middle part of the movie, i’ve never checked my phone this much during a movie. Even though the middle part was mostly a nothing burger it did tie somethings together and made you understand things. The ending just made me and my sibling so annoyed that we couldn’t watch another film cause we were just simply that pissed off. Even though the movie is only 2 hours something it does get a bit boring and feel stretched out but otherwise it’s honestly an alright film.

Sean Penns hair is the star of this film and jimmy’s wife is absolutely cuckoo. Dave deserved more. The ending annoyed me because are we saying it’s okay to kill a mentally ill and traumatised (innocent!!) man just because you think he’s guilty, if it’s all done in the name of family?

Movie was amazing. Unfortunately I was interrupted multiple times during my watch so I never got to really dive deep but nevertheless, the plot is great, keeps you on the edge of your seat and has multiple great performances. Sean Penn 👏 kevin bacon 👏 and many others. I think the ending is what really pulls it all together. It could’ve gone many different ways but I’m glad with the outcome. Not to much to say just a good movie.

Mystic River is a neo-noir thriller directed by classic western actor Clint Eastwood. The film tells of the murder of a nineteen-year-old girl and how her gangster father reunites with his childhood friends, Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon), a local detective, and Dave Boyle (Tim Robbins) a disturbed man from a childhood incident. The three come together to help the father, Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn) find closure, and help find his daughters killer. The film shows a lot of emotion, how the…

brilliant acting and character choices. the parallel of dave getting in the car with the savages at the end vs at the start with the kidnappers. god.

“Thanks for finding my daughter’s killer, Sean. If only you’d been a little faster.” I think everything that happened is just so fucked honestly. its like you kill someone for vengeance, and figure out youre wrong, but its ok? Just because he was mentally messed up from what happened? ln a way though I stand by Sean penns character, and wanting that revenge when you feel wronged. But its overly fucked that Michael now doesnt have a father.

this movie utterly confused me. up until the 2hr 10m mark, i was enjoying myself. it was a realistic and sad portrayal of a murder mystery—but one that kept me invested throughout it’s entirety. i remember thinking as every minute passed, “this plot twist is going to be crazy,” only to be met with a literal dumpster fire. the mute twins were the killers. the reason being was touched on for no longer than 10 seconds—because they were playing with…

Incoherent and sickeningly sentimental, the 2 hour runtime is better used looking at a dripping faucet or harming yourself. The cinematography and music is at least inoffensively unremarkable. Did Kevin Bacon really used to look like that? Even manages to undercut an acceptable capstone (an Eastwoodish condemnation of extrajudicial violence) in the last 3 minutes with a sickening vomit of dialogue absolving Penn’s character of his terrible mistakes that is followed by a Sean Penn sex scene™ and Sean Penn ejaculate™ The bits about Bacon’s wife are ultimately meaningless, signal-to-noise just like this movie’s relation to me.

A fantastically acted, coloured and shot tragic thriller that makes you think you know the truth then slaps you in the face with the real one. Penn and Robbins were amazing. I’m really starting to like Penn, his screams and cries in the iconic scene were harrowing. Amazing. So far the only Clint Eastwood directed film out of three (that I’ve seen) that have actually been any good.

Sean Penn is fucking jacked in this, holy shit. I’ve never read it, but I’m almost certain the book is a million times better (no shade, cause this was still pretty great by Director Clint Eastwood standards). Was settled into this as some kind of exploration of a shared unspoken trauma until that last 10 minutes. Such a bizarre decision to have this lady Macbeth style scene from Laura Linney’s character without any prior build-up, the writing for the women here in this generally are completely half-baked. Also Kevin Bacon’s wife is creepy.
