I can’t fairly review this movie because immediately before watching it Paramount gave me a lot of free champagne and then I met Tom Cruise and Chris McQuarrie who were both so nice (but to be clear the movie rules)

benji: ahhh shit. the mask machine’s busted grace: what does that mean ethan: it means… grace is gonna have to go on the train… alone grace: luther: uh oh grace: what ethan: i know. it’s not ideal, but she has to– grace: why don’t you put on the mask ethan: luther: grace: you can just put on the mask yourself. for the mission benji: ethan: it’s a girl mask grace: luther: he’s a boy ethan: im a boy. it’s a girl mask grace: benji: has to be a girl in the girl mask grace: so you’ve never just had someone put on a mask to play another gender ethan: wouldn’t that be… luther: benji: ethan: like isn’t that… i mean……

got so overwhelmed and flooded with dopamine that i started sweating at the climax and my fitbit gave me a “keep up the good exercise!” alert one of the top ten worst things about me is that i think magic rocks. so does ethan hunt. clearly, so do chris mcquarrie and tom cruise. this movie/franchise is as inspired by slapstick comedies as it is vegas residency magicians, down to the metatextual way they keep advertising big stunts that are, structurally, not important to the movie at all. minor footnotes for marketing, distracting “look at me”s that steal focus from an actual climax so you can still feel surprised. and i fall for it every goddamn time! thank goodness. every time…

It’s no secret that Tom Cruise cares more about the survival of the movie business — or at least the movie business as he’s known it, and helped to shape in his own image — than anyone else has ever cared about anything else. Sure, we’re talking about a guy who seems to care about everything more than anyone else cares about anything, but the fight against the future has grown increasingly personal for “modern” Hollywood’s signature mega-star, whose first “Mission: Impossible” movie helped transmute him into a living emblem of the movies themselves. What others might see as a content-driven culture war, Cruise naturally regards as an existential threat, and the last few years have seen the actor-producer channel…

Now I should love this, and I kinda do, but something about this just doesn’t land for me. The whole world destroying AI and and Gabriel in general just do not do it for me. But it is still a Mission Impossible movie so it was enjoyable. Also killing Rebecca Fergusson is inexcusable.

After Fallout, this was kind of a letdown. We’ve got one more to go, so im sure we’ll see more of my least favorite bad guy thus far, the omniscient Entity. Are they all just marionettes in the Entity’s game? Yes, or maybe no? That’s what it would want you to think. Maybe? The IMF squad is getting old and are more or less confined to chairs the entire movie, save for Ethan Hunt. I guess that is to be…

-
D
Maybe I’m a mark but I loved this movie. Maybe my favorite MI movie. It’s basically split up into 4 big sequences that are all entertaining and relevant to the story. To me it was nonstop fun and the IMF is as good as ever. The only thing holding it back from being perfect is that it’s meant to set up The Final Reckoning but I can get passed that (and Gabriel kinda sucks).
-
J
Benji my good buddy, why did you let the car go into auto pilot, which is presumbaly controllable by an AI, literally in the same day that the big evil AI hijacked your own voice to distract Ethan resulting in Ilsa’s death? “Listen to me very carefully, you must do exactly as I say” was said more than any other sentence in the movie by far. Paris barely said anything the whole film, then flips sides and saves Ethan at the end for what exactly? Him choosing not to kill her? Because Gabriel “predicted” that she would?

“Meaning this very conversation is technically an act of treason” “Or as we like to call it, Monday” And the masks are back … Meaning that we’re never really certain who is actually in a scene in any given moment. Because, well that would just make too much sense wouldn’t it? It’s been just over a year since I watched the last instalment of Mission Impossible, because frankly I forgot there were another 2 of these to get through. And…

Solid MI movie, but not quite as great as it could be. Might honestly be due for a rewatch after watching Final Reckoning, but the action is amazing as always. Standard, but enjoyable fare for the franchise… but why did this movie predict AI so accurately (writing this in my doomsday bunker 50 years after the clankers have taken over)?

Sue me if you want but this was my first mission impossible film . The writing is definitely not the strong suit but really good action sequences and an AMAZING sound design. If you have a home theatre system this is a great movie to show it off. Also that boy tom cruise running everywhere 🏃♂️

tom cruise running ✅ dang AI is really a hot topic that its the villain now whaaat
-
S
None of the set pieces really grabbed me, the premise of AI ruining the world by removing truth hit close to home, but the whole time I was wondering where all this crazy computing power is being housed. The mask reveal was super cool, and I really liked the ode to Battleship Potemkin. Mostly I feel like this one was too long and stretched a little thin
-
S
If I had a dollar for every movie Hollywood made that included a military/gov AI that went rogue, I’d be rich. At least Tom Cruise’s running form is still perfect.

Kirby as Grace is such a blast. Remains firmly as my #2 Mission behind Fallout. Weird pacing, some goofy stuff, but the stuff that’s great is just the absolute best. So many great action set pieces. Top tier music. Next up: time to revisit the final reckoning and see how it settles one year out.

Very solid action film, but admittedly in the weaker half of MI films in my opinion. A few of the usual part 1 issues, like Luther just up and leaves 2/3 in, and doesn’t reappear until the next film. But man is this film still a blast. Its well paced, old great characters, new great characters (whoo Paris!) and the setpieces are great as usual. The airport scene is so exciting, even when I know what happens, and the cobtrast…

I loved it. So thrilling
-
S
Very flawed, makes a lot of decisions I wouldn’t have, but as an experience it’s an extremely fun, tense ride for over 2 and a half hours. So while M:I is probably the “better” movie, I think Dead Reckoning will stay in my number 3 slot for now. I think the Orient Express scene will age well; it is both a fantastic set piece and a great stunt. I know the CGI isn’t perfect but frankly I prefer some of the questioned CGI in Fallout and Dead Reckoning to some of the praised stuff in Ghost Protocol. If anything else, they gave us two Vanessa Kirbys.
-

-
G
Pure blockbuster perfection. The stunts, the tension, the pacing this is exactly what I want from a Mission: Impossible movie. Absolutely loved it💥🕶️

K
Hayley Atwell is really fun in this. Pom Klementieff is so fucking badass.
-
T
This entry begins to highlight Ethan Hunt’s messianic complex and how his pathology is explosively confronted by AI. By far, the most consequential entry in the series, with the fallible reality of Ethan’s actions becoming understood and countered every step of the way. He also has to contend with a real knife queen who grows rapidly from a rather substandard threat to a truly ominous barrier. The Ilsa character is like a mirror to Ethan in a lot of ways.…

S
Big drop off, but amazing action as always! (That motorcycle jump!!!!!!!!)
-
M
Insane that he really jumped off that motorcycle. However I do think it was too late in the franchise to introduce a backstory never even hinted or retconned and I don’t love the Grace character and the narrative structure of her essentially replacing Ilsa who saved the franchise but c’est la vie I guess
-
M
Everything thats not an action scene looks like it’s shot on iPhone. Very stiff with lame characters, but really fun action.
-
F
apparently they had to trim Paris’ screen time because she’s so dynamic and powerful that you couldn’t take your eyes off her when you’re supposed to be looking at other things well here’s what i think: 1. completely valid because i couldn’t stop looking at her 2. RELEASE THE PARIS CUT IMMEDIATELY
-
R
-
N
I liked Paris, she was fun. Is Grace now the first female IMF agent?
-
O
it is quite silly but I love it, the action and set pieces are super cool also fuck old me for calling the train scene stupid that shit was great I needed to loosen up a lil back then
-
O
Enjoyable and I like most of the new characters but it’s too long (especially the train sequence when it turned into Uncharted). Also, the “big reveal” at the end regarding the key is something that we, the audience, knew from the very beginning, so that seemed kinda pointless.

Set an action set piece on a train and I’m going to gobble it up like Homer being served donuts in hell. That being said, I think I appreciated the car chase even more for how much fun it has with the handcuff problem. But the pacing’s not as good as it typically is for these, and two of the three villains (Morales and the faceless warbling Entity, Klementieff is a treat) are completely flat nothings.

I miss Jeremy Renner in these movies. If only there was an app I could talk about him on I haven’t seen this since I first watched it in theaters and I have no idea why?? This shit is insane. This is kind of a 3 star but it has some of my favorite scenes in the franchise which bumps it up. It’s a flanderized version of the franchise. All the stuff that’s mid about these movies are exacerbated, and all the stuff that’s fun about these movies are too. Overall I really do not fuck with this weirdo AI plotline, especially given that it’s the final arc in the (Tom Cruise) franchise. Also all his work done catches up to him hard here, he looks really goofy next to Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames who actually look their age lol.
-
C
as soon as I saw this was a Part One I couldn’t give it more than 3 stars. it really seems like splitting movies into two parts can be avoided, especially with this one, a lot of Tom Cruise running and other BS scenes for a still short movie. JUST MAKE ONE LONG MOVIE. DONT COME OUT WITH ONE THATS MID AF, AND WAIT A COUPLE YEARS BEFORE RELEASING THE NEXT ! it’s a spy movie tho, hard for me to not like them
-
T
The key is so incredibly drippy I want it. Or like a part of it. Anyways this one was pretty good but there where a couple long scenes… LONG ASS CAR CHASE FOR WHAT

“It’s your story, Grace. I know how it ends.” I think somewhere during this line I realized I was watching a movie that knew something about the story it wanted to tell, and had no clue how to get to its end. The Venice sequence is a great reflection of the movie as a whole: snazzy and flashy, quick and action-packed, clever and dramatic, full of ideas and full of itself. It is also when the movie begins to unravel.…

I think all the non-numbered parts of the series are pretty much the same. They took the structure of the first one—the first act is some fuck-up, the second act is some heist or break-in, and the third act is a big fight with the bad guys—and repeated it in every movie. In many ways, it is worse than De Palma’s pulp action because it never gets quite as stylish and creative. But there are some improvements. From the third…

The train sequence: superb. The motorcycle jump: fucking epic. I love a Tom Cruise stunt. I LOVE a mask reveal. That said………….. this movie sucks! And not in the camp way of its predecessors. It’s just bad. Tries to take a big swing at upping the stakes and just becomes a ridiculous amount of tell don’t show exposition. The MacGuffin explanation takes up wayyyyyyyyyyy too much screentime. And it gets progressively more confusing for zero reason. The ouroboros of a…

This didn’t completely click with me on first watch, because the script so belabored by world building compared to how quickly Fallout moves that it felt like it kept the viewer at a distance. On the subsequent two viewings, I have fallen in love with how dogmatic McQuarrie’s approach is to Ethan’s ethos. First, it helps that it feels like it very naturally follows Tom Cruise’s intensity about the work he does. But it’s more than that. It feels like…

Boy this sure was an action film. One of the action films of all time. An extremely well-produced generic action movie. I can appreciate the effort and scope and stunts and everything. But boy is it not trying to do anything but be a completely solid forgettable action movie. At the time, I intended to try and watch the others if I could find them on streaming. Maybe I will someday, but the fact this was so “just okay” kinda put a damper on any enthusiasm I have for pursuing the other M:I films, that’s for sure.

Honestly, this was an amazing film. I love Tom Cruise and his acting! I also watched this film in the cinema on ScreenX, which I think made the experience even better. These films are just way too long for me, and they do get a little boring at certain points. Pom Klementieff scene the show as Paris in the first part of Tom Cruise’s final portrayal of Ethan Hunt. As for Ethan, he goes on a search to destroy an AI while confronting his past. What makes this so great in Tom Cruise’s journey as Ethan Hunt is his realization that there are some things he cannot outrun, but only if he had not dealt with it properly.
