“Protection from what?” “Huh?” “What do you mean huh?” Gotta say I was invested throughout with this gripping dialogue, as well as the performance of a lifetime from Marky Mark. There’s good bad, then there’s 100 mins of Mark Wahlberg waddling in a trench coat and pulling faces like he’s in desperate need to shit. Surely it can’t be that hard to make a Max Payne movie.

Blud thinks he’s the crow. Mediocre entertainment that will provide you a fun enough time but won’t add anything to the genre and will probably leave your memory within a day. 3.5/10 Grade C

Why in the drugged-out vision of hell does this movie have a post-credits scene? Did they really think this piece of junk was getting a sequel?!?

Worse than the clap?????? Every one has a movie that they call there least favorite/most hated. For some, it’s Jack and Jill. For some, it’s The Phantom Menace. For some others, It’s Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. What is it for me you’re asking? Well, it’s this ABORTION of a movie. For those of you who don’t know, this is an adaption of the 2001 video game masterpiece. A action noir crime game. In it, you play as Max Payne, a cop who comes home one night who comes home to find his wife and daughter murdered by a bunch of junkies under the new drug called V. He kills the druggies, but loses his family. With loss of grief…

Talk about ruined potential. For you non-gamers out there, one of my favourite game franchises is Max Payne, a third-person shooter series defined by it’s blood-soaked John Woo-inspired gunplay and a gritty neo-noir aesthetic. I even find the divisive third instalment to be an excellent game in its own right. In other words, it was the kind of game just asking for a film adaptation. Of course, all you need to do to mess that up is to hire a director like John Moore, who has as much understanding of Max Payne as he did when making the fifth Die Hard, which unsurprisingly is not very much at all. Loosely (and I stress the term “loosely”) based on the first…

For some reason, I thought this was a Jack Reacher movie, so I was very confused by all the flying shadows. Mark Wahlberg really suits these roles, and I loved the colour palette.

Seeing one of my all-time favourite video games be butchered by Hollywood definitely provided me with Max(imum) Payne. 1 ½ stars for the hilarious shotgunning physics, great pyrotechnics & squibwork, the pretty good but wasted production design, and the Marky Mark Kaiju roar. Unrated version > Theatrical version, if you ever consider watching this poorly-edited, horribly miscast, but at least super stylized/visually interesting piece of shit. 🌨🏙👮🏻‍♂️🗂🗄👩🏻👶🗡🤪🧚🏿‍♂️⚗️🧪👨🏽‍🦲🥵🪖🤸‍♂️🔫🪶💊🏢🌨

This Movie wasn’t able to provide justice to the Original Game as it was a MASTERPIECE. PERIOD. The story had so much to present but the Makers did not try enough to make this an Iconic Game-Adaptation Movie.

I’ll give credit where it is due, the cinematography is nice and the atmosphere is great. But it feels to much like a generic action movie rather than Max Payne. And this is coming from someone who has played the games.

As someone who grew up loving Rockstar’s Max Payne, this movie hurts on a different level. It takes the noir atmosphere, bullet time and tortured Max aesthetic but somehow strips away the soul that made the game special. Mark Wahlberg looks the part, but this feels like Max Payne cosplay without the fucking pain, monologues or personality that made the game iconic.

I remember how excited my friends and I were for this one. We had all played the Max Payne video games and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to bring the game’s dark and brilliant story to the big screen. At the time, I lived in a small town where the movie wasn’t even showing at the local cinema. So, around the time of its release, we traveled to a neighboring town to see it in the theater. The…

Look, it has visual style to burn, but the script is awful, Wahlberg and Kunis are badly miscast, and the film is loaded with moments that desperately want to come off as badass and are instead laughably absurd. At least it has Beau Bridges and Ludacris in its favour.

I played the game twice and I can only say that the movie based on it is not very good, some plot lines were completely cut (Which is partly understandable, because a movie can’t be 5+ hours long), some were completely reworked so that it does not fit the plot, for example Alex was not killed on Roscoe Street (there is a scene in the movie when max is at the station, for me it makes no sense)

worst movie i’ve ever seen i was expecting a lot, i thought that maybe 60% of the game’s plot is going to be in this movie, but i was wrong. how badly do you have to fuck up the NEW plot you made up 😭 who the fuck is Natasha Sax!? 😭 it seems like the director only took the characters (and the drug’s name) and made up his own story (which was shit). i fell asleep for like five…

Watched this a few times over the years, feels like I’m in the minority of people that didn’t find it bad. Comparing to the game is always going to doom it, the majority of live action adaptations suck. This flattens and simplifies it but it isn’t a bad watch, comparison is the thief of joy in this. Best angel/Valkyrie horror within a film, very well done aspect to it. Casting is a bit odd. I suppose Clive Owen or Idris…

I feel like this would be a better movie if you didnt know there was a game out there, that did this story way better and organized its plot way better. Unpopular opinion, Wahlberg actually does a decent job as Max, its just the shit they feed him to do stinks for a nice chunk of this. I like the style and for lack of a better word, the intent to go on, but man, its just not a great end product to roll with sadly.

Podés reversionar el juego mientras mantengas, la esencia, el punto del juego, etc, acá no se mantuvo, al menos la atmósfera sí estuvo bastante bien, parece más una libre interpretación de Constantine que Max Payne

An infected, spasming, open wound of a film where a decade’s worth of action and cop media is cannibalized and repurposed while an elite cabal drags the world to hell through the dissemination of a drug that literally shows its users Hell. A bunch of broken people try to pick up the pieces of their lives as they slide further into the abyss, a hidden network of sin and evil forces molesting the world and breeding all manner of new…

A fun action movie with comical amounts of gun play, for a PG-13 rating. Keep in mind that this story is NOT a 1-1 retelling of the video game. It takes some liberties which becomes increasingly obvious.

There’s so many people having bad drug trips in this movie it might as well been an ad for staying sober, also so many big names but alas this is another time that Hollywood poorly adapted a much better and deeper video game

It’s cinematography does a decent job of capturing the atmosphere of the first couple of Max Payne games, but that’s mostly all it gets right. Occaisonally veers into camp in some of its dumber somehow-totally-straight-faced moments (i.e.: “I don’t believe in heaven. I believe in pain. I believe in fear. I believe in death.”), but it has far too little or action or intrigue to squeeze anything more than a few drops of ironic enjoyment out of.

There’s maybe like two redeemable moments in this movie and one is for the wrong reason. First off, the movie does kinda start off well but then quickly derails into garbage nonsense. The other being that Mark Whalberg barges into a room emptying out a magazine and screaming while high as shit.…
