It’s tough not to respond to the hype while reviewing this movie, the marketing campaign has obviously become a huge sensation and with it came a barrage of clickbaity early reactions describing the next Silence of the Lambs and the scariest movie of the century. Longlegs is about satanic suburban evil, Perkins is very inspired by Lynch and it’s clear he has blended a lot of influences here with his own complex familial experiences. Similar to Se7en it feels like a world outside our own, a hollow purgatory where characters’ voices echo into oblivion and nothing exists but them and the force they are trying to understand. Baffled by the near-universal praise. First off, the marketing team at Neon is brilliant. Every teaser, promo, early review gave an impression that THIS was the horror film of the year. I was filled with dread walking into the theater. Unfortunately, the movie is a lot of half-baked horror cliches propped up by art-house style. A perfect example of modern “elevated horror” done wrong. I wouldn’t mind the “mood over substance” nature of the movie if the mood were at all consistent or fresh. It feels like a “modern” Zodiac movie so the tone is off at times. Nic Cage is hilarious randomly bursting into Nic Cage impressions though I still liked his performance and Maika Monroe is pure scream of fear rlly enjoyed it.

Satanic imagery is so sexy, it makes everything at least 20% better. This film still isn’t perfect. There’s lots of little issues and the ending is somewhat unsatisfactory. Monroe barely has any emotional depth, as usual, but at least it fits here. Despite it’s flaws. It’s still a killer watch. Hail Satan! 💋

I haven’t seen this since I saw it in theaters. At the time I didn’t think it was anything special, but on a second watch I feel like this is well above average for a horror movie. Everything makes much more sense and you can pick up on the subtle hints when you know where it’s heading.

Very aesthetic, atmospheric, brimming with influences of Kubrick, Hitchcock, OG Fincher. It feels like an old X files episode or twin peaks. Beautiful filmed, beautifully acted. Tense, with good built up and good delivery. Good monsters and genuinely creepy at times.

Scary as hell, probably one of the scariest. I gave it a low rating because I wouldn’t recommend it to people, it’s very satanic and you probably shouldn’t watch it if you’re Christian. Just my opinion! Well filmed and directed, Nicholas cage was great and unsettling. Again, too demonic for me, got me scared as hell!

Damn that police dude died very early on. She’s kind of stupid for not calling it in before she went inside the house though. I have a love-hate relationship with the camera work and angles.
