A link to the past. Very strong chance that this may be the most visually appealing movie as far as my tastes go—beautiful on all fronts with lush scenery, hypnotic visual atmos soundwaved with euphoric tones courtesy of Tangerine Dream, the best goblins and melty faced creatures I’ve ever seen, and the single scariest image from my youth that I would eventually become obsessed with—Darkness. A friend recently said that this will probably be the best Legend of Zelda movie that we’ll ever get and I’m inclined to agree. Hits all the beats I look for in a movie like this without being 4 hours long which almost gives the the vapors as much as that TD score. I was…

Anyone who has more than a passing familiarity with my reviews, should be aware of the fact that I don’t believe in objective film analysis. My reviews and ratings are an expression of my subjective feelings on a film at that particular moment in time. But, even if I did review films objectively, this is one of those films where I would find such a task impossible. This was one of those defining films for me. As with Alien and Blade Runner, there’s just something about the aesthetic of Ridley Scott’s early output that resonated with me in my formative years. It’s one of those films I can watch endlessly and, every time I do, for 89 minutes, I feel…

a rare ornate gem of a film, easily among the best of ridley scott’s work, back when his visuals were lush & overwhelming in detail instead of stringent and aseptic. legend coasts along on intuitive ethereal vibes, a tactile set-bound fantasia of slime-slick goblins, capricious fairy glamour and deliriously fervid colors, all sweetly wrapped within the buttery-smooth synths of tangerine dream’s perfect score. the kind of movie where no one wears pants and tom cruise’s face is constantly smothered in a thick sheen of glitter. a pure sensory experience.

A truly bizarre amalgamation of picturesque surroundings plucked straight from an antique fairy tale and an open-and-shut good vs evil parable – a gloriously wacky experience. Ridley has done it all, really.

I was meant to rate this a bit ago!! I love this movie so much, realistically the rating is probably lower but I rarely find movies with this vibe anymore and it’s genuinely so perfect I loved it!! I am glazing a bit but I just rlly like this genre of movie I for some reason always enjoy movies with tom cruise in

Great sets, great production design, so much glitter and some really magnificent horse acting! The real legend is Tim Curry, who is the best part of the movie. It’s a cheesefest but I watched it dozens of times as a kid so the nostalgia is high. Did anyone not have a crush on Mia Sara?

Silly me, I should have known going in that this is a Ridley Scott movie, of course it’s going to have five million different versions… so now I need to go back and watch all the scenes from the director’s cut… Since this is also on the 1986 panel I will jot down some notes: – As with Highlander, I think the cheese would have put me off had I been alive and an adult when this came out; now,…

I’d consider this a flawed masterpiece So many things done right here. Every single shot and image is so densely filled with fantasy detail and thought and care. They went so hard in the paint building this whimsical fantasy environment and I truly can’t imagine how they could’ve done it any better for its time. They nailed the core of what fantasy imagery is and should be. Obviously the makeup is insane. Credit to Tim Curry for not only killing…

Movie made me into a horse girl Love the visuals. Wish there was a little more to the story and Tom’s Tarzan performance.

An 80’s fantasy fever dream. Bizarre and ridiculous with spectacular practical effects (and more glitter than I’ve ever seen). There are – not so hidden – messages about women corrupting purity and having to atone. Tim Curry is in peak form as the Lord of Darkness. I’ll watch him do anything honestly.

in this house we support women’s rights AND wrongs. so if a girl goes through a goth phase, hooks up with a looksmaxxxxxed gigachad Satan and threatens to kill the last unicorn protecting the world from eternal darkness — we trust her judgment, we don’t shoot arrows at her — Tom Cruise, when the forest twink tells him to kill evil Mia Sara on a more serious note: the first half kinda drags, a lot of the elves and gnomes…

lacking a lot in its story and characters, but hot damn if this isn’t incredible to look at. the sets, the costumes, the makeup, it’s all so well done and incredible to see. tim curry and mia sara are so amazing in this as well. this is the kinda fantasy i wanna see more of, whimsical and weird

Tom Cruise looks like a baby in this, it’s crazy to me that Top Gun came out the following year. Tim Curry’s character is an all-timer. Beautifully produced film, the effort that has gone into the physical sets and costumes is admirable.

Absolutely bonkers. At least a third of the runtime is some epic 80s synths playing while the characters are just staring at something that looks cool… and I’m not mad about it! Just the right level kinda cooked but also genuinely good stuff in here. Tim Curry was sooooo in his bag, major highlight for me for sure. Costumes and set pieces went crazy, can’t wait to read up on the production of this thing. Brown Tom and Screwball were…

“Director’s cut” For a film that’s about 40 years old now, a few generations have experienced it differently depending on the cuts they’ve seen of Ridley Scott’s fantasy cult favorite. Since it’s been less than 20 years since I first watched it, both cuts were available then on the copy I rented and I’ve only owned the director’s cut for less than fifteen years, which is to say it’s the cut I’ve preferred the most now that I have a…

PLEASE RELEASE THE TANGERINE DREAM SOUNDTRACK ON SPOTIFY I BEG OF YOU!!! I can’t live without ‘prologue’ – that soundtrack is part of my soul. Not to mention, Mia Sara is the most beautiful woman I have EVER laid eyes upon. Wow.

“Do you think you can upset the order of the universe and not pay the price?” If “Legend” from Sir Ridley Scott could get the title for one thing, it would be for being maybe the most visually stunning fantasy film ever made. A 80 dark fantasy film that oozes glitter, snow, and unicorns in every frame, it’s a sprawling tale of good versus evil and light versus darkness as a fight to avoid the world turning into an ice…

Theatrical Cut First time watch, and I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would after hearing all the … ahem… legends. Love the set design, makeup, costumes, and other artistry involved. Tim Curry is great. It’s nice to see something so original from a story perspective, but the writing seems to be the weak point even though it’s obviously cut up to hell. I think if you give William Hjortsberg either less narcotics or more narcotics, the script improves in both scenarios.

Legend was such a hilarious and fun watch. None of the jokes landed, the story was hard to follow and has plot hole after plot hole. However it’s hand down some of the best set design and practical make up I’ve ever seen, each scene is like a feast for your eyes. Tim Curry as ‘Darkness’ was hands down my favorite character. Really fun watch.
-
I
Totally serviceable fantasy when it comes to the story. The world could feel more fleshed out and coherent, but I do also see how the dreamlike mashing of random creatures and areas could be intentional to a degree. Overall, the set production and music carry this movie. I’d watch an hour of just fantasy vibes if done well. Also, Tim Curry continues to be the standout in everything he is in.

This is the exact kind of totally bonkers insane filmmaking that we just don’t get anymore, and I really miss it. Ridley’s amazing direction and Alex Thompson’s truly stunning cinematography elevate what could’ve been a pretty standard fantasy picture into something truly special.

Directors cut with Goldsmith’s score. Just feels like a different film. However there is something about that Tangerine Dream score that eeks it out on top.

I really love an 80s fantasy movie that clearly had a lot of effort put into making it look gorgeous. The sprawling sets and the practical effects make this truly visually stunning. That really goes a long way for me. Sadly the rest just isn’t very good. Idk if its the dialogue, the pacing, or the world building, but the magic just ain’t there. Perfect movie to put on in the background of a party

most of my love for this movie comes from how everything is filled with glitter: their skin, their clothes even the dust inside the great tree. I also love how they give lili an unibrow when she becomes evil and her most beautiful self from darkness’ perspective. However, I kept wondering why the goblins didn’t kill the female unicorn when they found her like they did with the male one instead of capturing her, which bothered me. I know it was done this way because it’s a movie and it can’t end after fifty minutes but I wish they had found a reason within the story,

Ridley Scott – 12ème.

*Watched the Director’s Cut* This movie is a bit of a mixed bag for me, but an entertaining mixed bag. There are four things that make this movie worth watching. First, the unicorns have some of the best horse acting that I have ever seen, weird as that is to say. Second, the visuals, makeup and production design are incredible. Almost every character looks amazing with great practical makeup with every shot looking amazing and tons and tons of sparkles.…

Legend may be one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen. It’s a style showcase with often stunning tableaus (like the unicorns in the cherry blossoms) and gorgeous, windy visuals from director Ridley Scott, only a few years out from his groundbreaking aesthetic for Blade Runner. Every shot in Legend looks like the cover of a fantasy novel (or heavy metal album) come to life. All aesthetic elements are pitch perfect, from cinematography to the ornate production design, makeup,…

interesting study of genre in the sense that it feels like if a third grade class was asked “what goes into a fantasy story” and all the ideas put on the big easel of giant lined paper got made into a movie except they didn’t have the budget for a dragon. fascinatingly “okay now this happens” feeling to the plot given that none of it felt consequential or like any one thing affected another thing happening. tim curry always delivers. cannot believe that elf boy isn’t frankie muniz

So basically Legend is Ridley Scott’s Labyrinth meets The NeverEnding Story. It’s very whimsical, Mia Sara really does look like a princess, and Tom Cruise is something of a Peter Pan/Tarzan. One of the best things about it is that the story is short and goes straight to the point. Visually, it’s not so bad either, it still holds up pretty decently. It’s also kind of cute how obsessed Ridley is with unicorns. It’s definitely unique, and I can see…

Ranked: Ridley Scott 1985 Ranked Legend is absolutely gorgeous. Special effects, Ridley Scott’s direction, and Alex Thomson’s cinematography, are exemplary. The first act of Legend had me wondering why this film has a lesser-than-stellar reputation, a magical encapsulation of whimsy and wonder juxtaposed by the dark fantasy elements that Legend deploys. The forest looks alive and is full of magic, then the darkness occurs and everything is awash in snow and ice. The vitality and green of the world is…
