Objectively not very exciting but what is pretty interesting is the total cartoon Vietnam stuff. I’ve never seen that conflict aestheticized in quite this way before, a total pastiche of images concerning a time period now old enough to feel like a fantasy for a young geek-demo filmmaker. It’s like the 80’s nostalgia thing but applied to this incredibly destructive piece of history. So weird.

Now this is how you make a fucking monster movie. I came to see this movie because I wanted to see Kong fuck shit up and he indeed fucks shit up! Kong: Skull Island is a whole lot of fun. It’s a very well crafted film. The post Vietnam War setting works great. The special effects are superb. Fantastic usage of CGI; all of the creatures are very detailed and look great. The aesthetics of the environment are awesome. The visuals are top-notch. There are several fantastic monster moments. Kong’s final battle is dope as shit. Probably the best monster fight I’ve ever seen on screen. This movie could almost be classified as a B-Movie. A really really well done…

there are (at least) two movies in this movie, and they’re both awful. congratulations, people who complained about Godzilla being absent from GODZILLA, you got the asinine bullshit you wanted. Jordan Vogt-Roberts makes Peter Jackson look like Merian C. Cooper. no more Kong movies forever, please. (alas…)

There are very few things that I respect more than a movie that is unafraid to embrace its own stupidity. Kong: Skull Island has thinly written characters, extreme tonal dissonance, bad dialogue, and a complete and utter disregard for the talents of Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson, but it’s absolutely glorious in its brazen spectacle. Its thin characters and tonal dissonance don’t matter as much because it thoroughly commits to its premise, and it seems like the movie is one ridiculous–but hilarious–visual gag after another. The bad dialogue is all part of the fun. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that’s something I appreciate in any movie, especially a nostalgia-laced B-movie blockbuster about a giant ape. Some might…

The first time I had watched this was with my dad. We went to go see it on it’s opening weekend almost ten years ago. There have been so many times that we have re-watched the movie since. Now for the review: Kong: Skull Island has a strong human element. I’m not saying that it is the best part of the film. The only characters I really invested myself in were Packard, John C. Riley’s character, along with two of…

imo lebih suka film ini dibanding godzilla 2014 bukan karena godzillanya jelek, tapi kong sebagai karakter kerasa banget developmentnya. terus juga lumayan suka desain kong di sini. he’s huge, intimidating, tapi punya sisi yang bikin dia gak kek monster lain. beda banget sama sebelah, kalo di sini gue gak perlu nunggu setengah jam buat diliatin monster saling baku hantam. apalagi ada variant loki, captain marvel, nick furry di sini yg beda sendiri universenya wkwk i’m just joking.

I wish they got to explore the island a bit more in this, the parts where they keep discovering even more horrifying creatures were the best parts of the movie.

Honestly this is a good ass Kaiju flick that delivers on the man versus nature conflict. The plot effectively builds up Skull Island as some mysterious endpoint that requires exploring and it introduces Kong as some benevolent force of nature. Shoutout to the DoP cause every shot was exceptionally lit and you could follow the motion through every frame

Utterly ridiculous. Outlandish. Bollocks on toast. Loved it. Big on action and special effects. Jules going on a fruitless rampage made no sense but hey, it was needed to flesh out the otherwise pointless and completely overdone script. Great use of era accurate musical cues. Loads of big names cast wise too. Would’ve been great on the silver screen. Gimme more.

THIS is how a Kong movie should be done. Similar to Godzilla 2014’s style and scale, but also having those original qualities as well. Due to this film taking place during the Vietnam war instead of modern day, they definitely knew they had to handle the story and visuals different from 2014’s Godzilla. I personally think they succeeded and accomplished that task in a very thought-out way. This director actually took his time to make the film not just about…

One of the most underrated action blockbusters I’ve seen. It seriously does not get talked about as much as it should. The action is top notch with awesome visuals and cinematography. I will admit some of the human characters were forgettable and not important to the story (plot can also be a little weak). But Samuel Jackson and John c Reilly were the best parts. John Goodman would have also been great if they didn’t kill him off so early??? Why did they think it was necessary to do that? This is all in all a fun movie to watch and rewatch. 4 stars underrated.

Dear Billy, here are my notes for this movie: -It felt like Jumanji but in a different font but that doesn’t have to mean that it’s bad in any way. -I’m glad the colonel died, but I think the general audience liked that aswell, just wanted to put that. -I really like how the characters divided themselves around Kong. He’s this marvelous creature others appreciate, while others fear him. I’m still glad the colonel died. -Many deaths were instant and…

Oh god the last time I watched this was during my Yakuza phase (even worse when I was still first playing through the games) and all I said were two references and a basic snarky joke. I like to think nowadays I can talk about movies more even if not that much and I also like to think I’m more well adjusted and don’t think about Yakuza every waking moment. I think much like King of the Monsters a lot…

This shit was brutal ☠️, i wouldnt have been surprised if there was only 1 survivor at the end of the movie. It very much exceeded my expectations tbh. I started it off thinking it was just gonna be another case of your typical blockbuster hollywood slop that I wouldn’t rate above 3 stars, but it was soo entertaining and it didn’t even feel like 2 hours. I love how, for the most part, it goes against movie clichés & they…

Yeah, it’s a kind of stupid monster movie and yeah, it kind of reinforces questionable conspiracy theories. But it’s also… weirdly well done. The brief costuming and cultural aspects of the early 70s in DC are remarkably accurate and don’t feel costume-y. The characters are also shockingly well-written — or rather I should probably credit that tot he actors. The writing is… not the best. They’re so human and unique — the military men have inside jokes about common things…

Come for the clever Vietnam-era setup and period vibes. Stay for the onslaught of CG creatures and bored A-listers (Brie Larson especially), who are clearly just calling it in for the paycheck. I think John C. Reilly thinks he’s in a Jumanji movie.

“This planet doesn’t belong to us” Big monkey. Big lizards. Bunch of exposition. Plenty of action. Some really cool shots throughout. Really solid cast (even if the script is not great). This movie has just enough style and it doesn’t take itself too seriously to make it really fun, and worth repeat viewings. Bonus: Samuel Jackson says “hold onto your butts” in this. An exact line he says in Jurassic Park. Never noticed that until now.

This movie has so much style. There are so many frames that look so beautiful and awesome. That first Kong scene is genuinely the best scene in all of the western Godzilla/Kong movies. Crazy how none of the other movies even come close to the amount of sauce that this one has. I wish we got more of these characters in this time period.

Vietnam era aesthetic, Apocalypse kinda energy, giant ape. Peak concept. Jordan Vogt-Roberts understood that a monster movie lives or dies by how quickly it gets you to the monster – and this one doesn’t make you wait. The setting gives it a different texture, the soundtrack is doing all the right things, and John C. Reilly is the best human in any of these films by a distance. Samuel L. Jackson’s Colonel Packard is something the franchise needed – obsessive, understandable, completely wrong. Best Monsterverse film for atmosphere.
