There are several ongoing discussions my roommate and I have as we watch various lesbian flicks (this one is one she owns–and loved as a kid when it came out). It’s so important to live the relation to another as something alive! You just have to remember it’s not inertia alone that is responsible for human relationships repeating themselves from case to case, endlessly monotonous and unrenewed. great! very sweet and real romance, with people who feel believable and talk like real (albeit a bit up-their-own-asses) people. Lesbians experience a lot of homophobia and misogyny, they are constantly getting told that they are not really lesbians because of how incredibly misogynistic our society is, men think women can’t possibly be lesbians because they think their dicks are so special. I went into this movie not fully knowing what is was about I thought it was gonna be a cute lesbian love story, I have actually never been so disappointed in a film, this movie is exactly why lesbians experience homophobic hate.

Witty, hilarious and sweet. The kind of romantic comedy that isn’t afraid to be smart and cheesy at the same time. Laughed out loud many times and melted out of tenderness at others. I’ll bet it was inspired in some way by Woody Allen’s work, only with a progressive, new millennium, female, sapphic touch. Some people may have a problem with its ending but it actually felt pretty realistic to me. Plus, I related more than I expected with both leads, especially at my age and current professional status. And it got into my top 5 favorite romantic comedies.

what works about this movie for me is that it exists inside a Jewish world which is refreshingly vivacious, if bourgeois, and even drags that world’s mores a few feet into the present (newer generations seem to struggle to understand this was actually somewhat progressive _for the era_). and everyone looks cute. so it’s effective at being a sort of crossing delancy meets SATC. but remove this charitable take and all that’s left is a sort of toothless and unambitious sitcom

This movie could’ve so easily been a 4/5 lesbian classic, if only it weren’t for the last 10ish minutes. Those 10 minutes undo SO much of the character development that happens in the central relationship, AND paint lesbian relationships as frivolous to the point of feeling homophobic. It could’ve been an excellent way to explore internalized homophobia, especially when it comes to intimacy. The cinematography was nice, the outfits and styling were excellent, and all the women (not just the main two!) were likable and relatable. A few odd editing choices/awkward scene moments, but those are highly forgivable crimes especially compared to the previously mentioned one.
