I gotta say the best thing about this movie was that they had The Cure playing in the credits 🖤

Fight! – Stallone v. Schwarzenegger: A Rivalry of Muscular Proportions Well, I figure out why I confused this with Demolition Man. Rob Schneider. Like, what are the odds that he starred in two films in the 90s set in a dystopian setting and starring Stallone? Seeing this after The Specialist made this film slightly more enjoyable. It’s not a good film by any means, especially when you’ve seen Karl Urban, which is pale in comparison. The world building and the concept were interesting enough to gauge my interest. Schneider could have been more annoying, he was okay, I suppose. Stallone is putting in more effort and is a bit more fun than in The Specialist, but I liked him much…

Aside from being a poor adaptation of its source, I sort of admire the gumption of throwing 100 mil at a property that was unfamiliar to the general public, was decidedly R-rated, hired on Versace himself to design the costumes and looks every cent as expensive as it is — might be a glorified vanity project for Stallone but it’s also a testament to big studio spending on trash for adults which is a thing of the past at this point

Thoroughly enjoyable goofball 90’s action sci-fi comic swill… its dumb as hell with a stacked cast and feels like it was made a million years ago but I dunno… it’s better than I remembered and moronic fun.

Not quite as bad as I remembered, but not much better. And whoever thought this material needed wacky comic relief at all, much less wacky comic relief in the form of loudmouth Rob Schneider, should be banned from filmmaking. Still there’s some ’90s comic-book production design par excellence buried beneath the cheese, and this version isn’t *that* far removed from the much better 2012 DREDD with Karl Urban. Plus, I have a hard time totally hating a movie that features a Judge Dredd costume designed by Gianni Versace that includes an enormous metallic codpiece, and a final fight that takes place in the crown of the Statue of Liberty and includes the line “I’ll be the judge of that.”

S
The deepest mid-90s action vehicle, drawing on experiences with Blade Runner, Robocop and the dystopian cinema of the 70s. Some unforgettable moments: Sylvester Stallone’s permanently downturned mouth corners, which in combination with his helmet, outfit and the “I AM THE LAAAWWW!” cry create a fluid portrayal of the grumpy grouchy good guy; or the scene of the reactivation of the evil pile of scrap, which then spits out “WAAAARRRR!” as response to Stallone’s striking roar, all greedily and drooling. The village hillbillies, who celebrate their Christian faith by torturing and marauding, are also a spectacle. In contrast, JUDGE DREDD later loses itself in genre-conventionalized uniformity, in which I particularly found Rob Schneider as humorous bonbon and annoying sidekick to be a nuisance. JUDGE DREDD thus sells itself as naive blockbuster cinema from the deepest corners of the 90s.

I didn’t know that there were cyberpunk movies I wouldn’t like, but I just can’t get past the “double whammy” of Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider. And while I was struggling with all that the final nail in the coffin landed: girl fight.

Rob Schneider is so insufferable

The movie is really good up until the middle, but after that it gets not so good and feels very disjointed. It’s not a bad movie, but it’s definitely not one you should watch first.

Jesus.. this was very bad. I really didn’t think it was going to be that bad . What was sly thinking. Feel bad for Diane lane… and James remar. Cool costume (that he barely fucking wears) and cool robot. Everything else just fails completely

The plot twist of Rico being his identical “twin” brother is crazy. Especially because they look nothing alike

Right in my zone of awful 80s-90s action. There is a lot to appreciate about this movie and a lot that’s stops it from reaching bangers status. The positives: 1. Painted backgrounds 2. Wild costumes 3. Cool sets 4. Joan Chen and Diane Lane 5. Stallone HAMMING it up in those blue contacts The negatives: 1. What are the morals/politics in this movie?? 2. Rob Schneider 3. Stallone calling Schneider “Kid” when he’s clearly a full grown man. 4. General poor execution of what might’ve been of cool story.
-
S
If Schneider weren’t in this and they left Dredd’s helmet on, it would be as good as the average Nolan movie.

Really cheesy and definitely not the best cgi effects but Idk I kinda liked it

Robo Cop meets Blade Runner but with Rob Schneider as a stapler.

Starts off pretty decently, but quickly transforms into a rigid borefest. Standard Hollywood adaptation plagued with tropes and standard beats. I’m too fucking old to endure clown sidekicks now. Or punchlines that are only funny once in a blue moon (how the fuck is I KNEW YOU’D SAY THAT supposed to be any good, and yet they still repeat this one ad nauseam)… Neither the funny nor the serious parts really work (and yes, I still like some 80s/90s films…

You want a campy, coherent, and compelling narrative warning against state and corporate power from 1995? Genuinely just watch Tank Girl instead. The fundamental failure of the 1995 Judge Dredd is that it completely misunderstands its own source material. In the comics, Dredd is a faceless symbol used to satirize fascism, police brutality, and state-sanctioned violence. While the film opens with promising glimpses into class warfare and systemic over-policing, it completely lacks the courage to tackle them. Instead, transforming an…

Beautiful set design, and fantastic practical effects. Has the happiest ending a cyberpunk movie could muster. Rob Schneider was the worst part of it.

Recycled food is good for the environment and okay for you. So many cheezy one liners. I loved all the sets, the cities looked so good. I liked the spaceship and the weapon design too. The acting was pretty bad but I don’t really care. Rob Schneider was in this and unfortunately for that reason I’m knocking off half a star. All the shootout scenes were sick. This movie had some promise in the beginning, but as it went on…

Great bad movie! The plot was thin and the dialogue was dripping with cheese. Mega City is dense! Early CGI mixed with miniatures really brought the city to life. I’m a big special effects fan, so seeing some great practical effects like animatronics and over the top prosthetics is always going to get my attention. Armand Assante knew what kind of movie he was in. Stallone thought he knew, and that worked out best for the movie. Is it a…

A good time. Sylvester Stallone delivering the action and one liners I love, Armand Assante as the over the top villain, Max von Sydow, Diane Lane, Scott Wilson, James Remar, futuristics weapons, robots, crazy cannibals, and I even enjoyed Rob Schneider’s character for the most part, even if he could be annoying some of the time.

I think this may the closest I’ve ever seen another movie come to a true Blade Runner cityscape- although at times, a straight up Blade Runner ripoff. Pretty mediocre but with a solid cyberpunk atmosphere!

For a movie in the 90’s, it could use more grit. However, the world is very cool and the cherry on top is that Gianni Versace designed the fit for Judges. Sly should’ve kept that shit on.

Loved the world building apect and aesthetic of the movie. I’m at awe while looking at the set designs and the props— I’m a sucker for this kind of world building elements in sci-fi movies. I feel immersed in the world they live in. Although I don’t know anything about the source material of the movie, this being my first introduction to Judge Dredd, I still had a quite fun watch.

I would’ve sworn I’d seen this before but as soon as I saw Rob Schneider I was like, “Oh, never mind I guess not.” Just a mediocre movie all around despite having some potential. They even somehow waste a potentially awesome 60% competed clone horror show by immediately having them all blow up with us only seeing a single arm. Watch Demolition Man again instead.
-
N
You know Hegseth creams his jeans thinking about those cunty cock shields. Holy shit this movie is bad! Just so bad! But a good time to hate watch. Some of the worst dialogue you have ever heard in a movie some of which is delivered by a battered Halloween pumpkin with pretty princess posture.

Was Rob Schneider’s character even supposed to be in this movie or did he accidentally stumble into the wrong set that day?

I don’t know how else to say this but this movie is comically bad. It down right sucks, actually. If you go into it taking it seriously prepare to be really disappointed. But it’s a weird guilt pleasure watch for me because it’s so bad that it’s funny.
-
H
I wouldn’t even consider myself a Rob Schneider hater, he is awful in this movie, is maybe funny a couple times. The whole part of the story outside the city walls feels very rushed and could have been a cooler plot point. They could have just not had the whole evil twin brother plot line either. This movie could have been so much better, the costumes and universe are the strong points.

-

So fucking campy and I love it. Stallone’s performance is “bad” on the surface yet underneath it’s BRILLIANT from a characterization standpoint. Dredd is a lab baby made specifically to do this one job— of course his personality is rendered down to nothing like a tire missing all of its traction. Because of this, he’s absolutely hilarious. Fuck Rob Schneider though. He had no business being a sidekick let alone in this movie.

Everything looks like an action figure in this, it’s so cool.
-

Really, it’s just a typical action film. Schneider is marginally better than Stallone, whose acting is such a stereotype. The one-liners are painful. For 1995, the effects are okay. The design is cool and the city looks good. 💥🏙️

-… and justice for all!

The 2012 Dredd movie is still one of my favorite sci-fi films. This version is everything you don’t want it to be. Rob Schneider’s comic relief crap was insulting to my ears. It’s very cheesy, and that can be ok at times, but he was so bad. Stallone is fine as Dredd (even though he’s in his suit for not even 10 mins). The villain was not well developed, the visuals are a bit outdated, it’s too short and the…

Alittle mixture of robo cop, terminator, and Helldivers. I’m gonna have to watch the Karl urban version to see which one is better. But I got a hard time seeing the newer one being better. Bros outfit changes 3 times in one sequence without any explanation, one he’s wearing armor, next the armors gone, and after that he’s suddenly in a short sleeve v neck despite wearing a collared long sleeve in the 2 previous shots, all of these are all in one chase sequence, and by the end of the movie, he’s in a tank top, not once does it ever show him removing or changing these shirts except for the very last scene.…

I have a soft spot for this version of Dredd. I owned it on VHS (discovered at a car-boot sale). It was the only on-screen version we had for a long time. And the practical ABC Warrior suit is worth the watch alone. Inferior obviously to Urban’s take now, but a fun switch your brain off movie.

I haven’t read the comics, but I think it’s another decent dystopian movie on its own, even if it has a cliche plot—follows a similar vibe to that of RoboCop. Rob Schneider was pretty annoying throughout and Sly’s blue contacts really threw me off, even if they make his appearance comic-accurate

This really ought to have been two full hours. Many of the scenes, particularly in the Wasteland, play out too fast, and Max Von Sydow doesn’t have nearly enough screen time. Of course, Judge Dredd himself also doesn’t spend enough time engaging in typical beat-cop antics. Otherwise, it’s not that much worse than Demolition Man.

….well that was a wild ride and a half…… Yeaaaa…. For once I’m gonna side with the remake. ——— In later interviews, Sylvester Stallone said he felt the film was supposed to be a comedy/action film, and demanded re-writes to make it even more comedic. The director and screenwriter, however, had intended a darker, more satirical approach, which led to many difficulties behind the scenes. (Well that explains a lot! 😅) Since the film was shot in England, they kept the streets wet at all times so that it wouldn’t matter if it rained.

My whole life I’ve heard nothing but bad about this whole movie, but I do not understand where the hate comes from. Like yeah it’s not exactly all that comic accurate but you could say debatably. It adds a lot more from the comics than its successor does. Is this one of the great comic book movies of all time, absolutely not. But it’s a pretty serviceable 1990s action movie with Sylvester Stallone in it. Sidenote definitely needed a lot less Rob Schneider and that’s not even because of his personal views on things. It’s just towards the end. It was way too much.

Put this on while dredging through a 16hr photo editing marathon, in between season 3&4 of Mad Men. Jon Hamm would make a sexy dredd, but Stalone does have him beat on the lips. High praise! P.s. Sometimes I just say the name Jon Hamm over and over to myself until words lose meaning and it’s just he and I dancing in the dark. My knees quiver when stubble grazes my cheek, his chin slowly moving, whispering candy coated lies to only me… Jon Hamm, Jon Hamm, JON HAMM! 🍭🤫

The first voice we hear in “Judge Dredd” belongs to James Earl (Darth Vader) Jones, reading the words that crawl up the screen, describing a future world in which most of the Earth is a wasteland, and humans huddle in closed, violent megacities. Jones’ voice, along with the words crawling up the screen, are reminders of “Star Wars.” The fact that he has to read them is a reminder that in 1977, when “Star Wars” came out, audiences didn’t need…
