Strange but true: Most of modern blockbusters’ schtick — interconnected universes, epic casts, tons of Easter eggs, an obsessive fixation with old comics and Star Wars — was done first by this schlubby stoner from Leonardo, New Jersey. There could be something to returning to that style now that it’s become the dominant strain of moviemaking on the planet, and using it to subvert and spoof all those giant movies. This really isn’t that. It’s not even a reboot. It’s mostly a straight rehash of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which was already the weakest one of these View Askew movies to begin with. There are a couple decent jokes, at least. I laughed at Jason Lee versus the modern mallrats (which are actual rats, because malls are now completely deserted). Plus, Affleck spoofs Martha!

Rotten Tomatoes: 67% Metacritic Metascore: 46 IMDB: 5.8 41/100 Release Date: 15 October 2019 Distributor: Miramax – Saban Films Budget: $3M Brodie Bruce: “Hey, man! Those Marvel movies are a triumph of cinema. I live on those Marvel movies. I live for those Marvel movies. I watch those Marvel movies more than I watch PornHub, and I come twice as hard doing it.” Kevin Smith is the gold standard when it comes to indie filmmaking. Clerks will always hold a special place in my heart and is easily among my 10 favorite films of all time. Mallrats and Chasing Amy are both endearing and incredible pieces of cinema in their own right as well, especially Chasing Amy. Simply put, the…

My least fave of the franchise but I still had some LOL’s. Due to lack of time, I can’t add much to these logs for now. 🙁 Maybe in the future. Watched on Amazon Prime

1. Ben Affleck being in this warmed my fucking heart. 2. That joke about not remembering a mom’s name warmed my fucking heart. 3. The sad shape of Brodie’s mall broke my fucking heart. 4. The revelation of who put the gum in the Quick Stop lock warmed my fucking heart. 5. Brodie and Kevin Smith’s shirts warmed my fucking heart. 6. This whole movie warmed my fucking heart.

I hate myself so much. So much. I don’t respect myself, I resent all the phases of my life. I can’t be trusted and my origins are disreputable. I’m scum. Snootchie bootchies.

You already know if you want to see a movie called “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” but in the unlikely event that anyone out there is still on the fence about buying a ticket for this Charlie Kaufman-esque belly flop back into the depths of the View Askewniverse, it might help to know that Kevin Smith’s latest bit of self-mythologizing starts with a proud nod to “Clerks II,” a film that was only memorable for Harvey Weinstein’s insistence that it earned an eight-minute standing ovation at Cannes. The scene begins with the feds surrounding a New Jersey chicken shack called “Cock Smokers,” and ends with Jay (Jason Mewes’ perma-stoned alter-ego) rehashing an old bit that involves him tucking his penis…

I’m kind of shocked. This was WAYY better than I thought it was going to be. As a big fan of the original, I avoided this when it came out. I do that sometimes. Sometimes I just don’t want the sequel, or reboot, to ruin what I love about the original. But this was actually so good! Surprisingly wholesome and super cute. Also, meta as heck. But I mean, so was the original, and most of Kevin Smith’s movies. I thought his kid did a great job in this. And it was just probably so emotional, as Jay has always been in her life to begin with. The cameos were great, and expected. All the throwbacks to the other Smith…

Honestly there’s something touching about the fact that Kevin Smith plucked Jason Mewes out of obscurity 25 years ago and now here he is all these years later still playing the same character. He’s America’s Antoine Doinel.

Shot by the same guy who shot Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning. Kinda made me sad that Kevin’s internalized all his criticisms and now just regurgitates them as “bits” before you do. Ben Affleck is a good friend.

I don’t know if I’ve just outgrown the comedy or if this was genuinely one of the shittiest movies i had ever seen. I forgive you Kevin Smith you can’t win them all and many of you films before still make me chuckle until i need a wardrobe change. So fingers crossed the next thing is great. Plus what do i know I’m just a consumer not a director. Even trying it high just didn’t do it for me.

I love this movie SO much. Jason Mewes and Harley Quinn Smith go above and beyond and give absolutely amazing performances in this movie. The Chasing Amy cameos, that shit makes my heart grow three sizes every time. Jason Lee and Matt Damon’s cameos were fun as hell. The Method Man and Redman scene was fuckin awesome. “I used to think life was all about me. I was the hero of my own story, a Bruce Wayne of one lifelong…

Felt like Kevin Smith went with all of his worst impulses here and while parts of this are still fairly enjoyable and I do love some of the cameos it was simply not enough to save this one. The plot felt very unnecessary for something that really should have leaned into the fun more. Glad he was able to course correct for clerks 3 at least.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is a satirical buddy stoner comedy edited, written, directed by, and starring Kevin Smith. It is the eighth film in the View Askewniverse. Funny enough, I actually bought this movie before even seeing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, so it’s been sitting in my collection for like a year or so. I watched Strike Back and it turned out to be one of my favorite movies, my favorite Kevin Smith film at that. Then…

The view askewniverse watch (movie 7) Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Well this really had the same idea as Jay and Silent Bob strike back but just more modern really but I can say that I still liked watching this. Jay and Silent Bob still get a kick ass entrance in to the movie and have some nice jokes too. One of the funniest things about this film is Kevin P. Smith actually making fun of himself during the hole…

some funny moments. some really heartfelt moments, specifically the final scene got me emotional, and all the references and cameos were fun. first time i’ve ever liked ben affleck and it comes at his own expense. way too much going on. they even joke about the movie being sloppy, but that’s not something that can just be laughed away. it just simply doesn’t work as well today.

recently my childhood cat died due to medical complications. in her final days she was still purring and happy to see us as she always had been, but implicitly I knew the end was coming so despite her happiness, whenever I hung out with her I felt a sense of dread and dispair. that’s how watching this movie felt. Kevin smith of course being the dying cat.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot should be called Jay and Silent Bob Rehash. Not only is it true, but it’s also a weed pun. If you know the plot and jokes of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back you know the plot and jokes of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. God this one is just reference and call back, one of the most repetitive movies I’ve seen. It is also just such an old person movie. Jay and Silent Bob…

Intentional and self-aware fan service at its best. It’s astounding that Kevin Smith finagled so many popular actors to participate in this movie and lampoon his work. So much funnier as a rewatch several years, careers, and Hollywood trends later for him and various cast members since its release.

this movie was fun to watch, I think Jay is a great dad all things considering lol. I’m glad he and Millie are finally able to be Daughter and Father the way that they were meant to be. Millie is so much like Jay its insane.

Good! Now… on this one I may be incredibly biased, but I really enjoy this movie. I find a lot of the jokes to be funny and the cameos to be quite entertaining. It’s by no means perfect, but I think it is a good installment in this franchise. More than anything else though, it does move me emotionally. Kevin Smith isn’t known for emotional complexity, but being a father and having a heart attack really gave him something to…

This movie is ehh, it’s fun, and funny. But the emotional beats don’t always work for me, but I do love the Chasing Amy stuff.

Not worth watching for anybody. There are a few throwbacks that make you smile, and maybe a couple of one liners that are alright, but overall this is just dumb. Not even a fun dumb. And the fact that it tries to bake in some morals makes it all the worse off. Look I am very lenient for Kevin Smith. He is one of my favorites. But this is just lazy with no thought to it.

I am a Kevin Smith fan, and welcome opportunities to step into his universe… but not a fan of this one. Silent Bob has leaned completely slapstick like a mime you would find on the street, and Jay just doesn’t have that same energy that made him so great. Smith basically used his leverage to pull together all his friends, repackage some favorite jokes and get some actors to recite our favorite lines in the form of a dad joke……
-
F
dare i say i liked this better than the original

Silent Bob always says, Failure is success training. In the words of director Sean Baker (the liked review below) when talking about this movie, “My least fave of the franchise but I still had some LOL’s.” Which pretty much sums this up my thoughts as well, but I also liked some of the superhero cameo and dialogue stuff. I didn’t realize MC Chris had as many touches in Kevin Smith’s movies as he did—that sends middle school me into shock—snoogins.…

i think kevin smith is the only person who can poke fun at himself in his own movies and still make it kind of funny. i wont lie i did laugh at this movie a few times, like the airport scene. but other than that its kind of not great. they just pulled a bunch of shit out at the end for no reason other than they can. i did like the inclusion of pearl jam’s ‘daughter’ though! a for effort

An ad came on in the middle of it and the cinematography is so bad, I thought it was part of the movie. Call me the trash man. Can’t be bothered to watch a good movie lately. Or much of anything at all. I have a few more Jay/Silent Bob films to wreck for myself in revisiting. Instead, I hard pivoted into one of the new ones. Despite it being bad, perhaps terrible, it’s the kinda crap I’m accustomed to.…

I didn’t expect much from this, so I was neither let down nor surprised. It was annoyingly meta, and most of the cameos weren’t as charming as the previous View Askewniverse films. Things didn’t really pick up for me until we got to Chronic-Con. I did really like the Bluntman and Chronic reboot scene, and Val Kilmer as Bluntman made me smile. The amount of GLP-1 ads I had to sit through on tubi while watching this made me angry, so maybe I would have liked it more without that!

The first time I watched this movie, I fucking HATED it and NEVER wanted to watch it again. Well I watched it again recently and it’s alright 🤗✨ Definitely too meta for its own good at times, and this movie LOVES to remind you that it’s meta. However, I did find myself loving a lot of the cameos, callbacks, and whatnot, but what I really found myself loving was Jay’s arc as a character/father. Not the best K.S. movie by far, but still worth watching 🤗🌹✨ I own just about every other movie, might as well own it too 😅💀✨

THE HONORED TRADITION #??? Jay and Silent Bob are back to make fun of the entire concept of the reboot. This universe is still alive and I hope they keep it that way. Jay having a daughter that also has a non speaking hetro life-mate still cracks me up. It’s one of those bizarre road movies to visit all the characters from previous Kevin Smith movies. Some of the comic books are this way too. Chris Jericho as a Klansman…
