Rotten Tomatoes: 60% Metacritic Metascore: 51 IMDB: 5.8 69/100 Shark Week Horror Sequels Ranked Martin Brody: “But I’m telling you, and I’m telling everybody at this table that that’s a shark! And I know what a shark looks like, because I’ve seen one up close. And you’d better do something about this one, because I don’t intend to go through that hell again!” Even in the 1970s, when a film was successful enough to have made a profit, a sequel was something of an expectation. Sequels have long had a reputation for being a lesser copy of the original. Exceptions have sprung up over the years: Aliens, Godfather II, and Terminator 2 come to mind, but Jaws 2 is definitely…

I think we’ve got another shark problem. -Martin Brody With Jaws being the first summer blockbuster, it’s appropriate that Jaws 2 is one of the first examples of a cash grab sequel. It stars an actor that was contractually forced to do the film, co-stars the studio’s president’s wife in a bigger role forced on the film makers and the studio fired anyone that attempted to do anything original or progress an actual story from the events of the first film. Director John D. Hancock and his wife, screenwriter Dorothy Tristan, worked on the pre-production for 18 months. They were doing a story with a dark tone that included having Amity in financial ruin in the wake of the first…

We’re gonna need a better script We’re gonna need a braver director We’re gonna need a brighter co-star We’re still gonna need a bigger boat There are so many things wrong with this I’m not sure where to start, and yet it somehow works as an easy to process creature feature with a killer score. The regular sightings and attacks become repetitive, and devoid of the incredible tension that Spielberg generated in the first film. In the original, when the shark finally appeared it was a revelation and genuinely sphincter-altering, whereas here it was more like ‘here we go again’… kids messing in the water, where’s the giant mechanical shark at…. where you at huh, big fella? HORRORx52 challenge by kynky 43. Sequel/Prequel/Remake

A drop in quality was to be expected without Spielberg’s involvement, but Jaws 2 is actually a lot better than it has any right to be. I was really surprised how much tension it was able to build; most of the shark action had me on the edge of my seat. Good stuff!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water. Psycho and Jaws are both cinematic juggernauts that not only transcend the genre, they both terrified humans around the globe when it comes to showers and the ocean. I always felt like these movies have another thing in common… Both of these highly influential movies spawned an underrated sequel thats generally scoffed at by the many movie goers and if you ask me, they’re wrong on both counts. Not gonna lie folks, Jaws 2 is one of my favorite sequels… sure, It may not have Hooper or Quint and it certainly isn’t as tension filled as Jaws, but that never bothered me since we see a burned shark eat a…

“Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-SHAAAARRRRKKKK!!!!” No Spielberg? No problem! We’ve still got Chief Brody, we’ve still got the dipshit Mayor, we’ve still got fuckin’ Johnny “Mr. Electric” Williams, and we’ve still got a giant bloodthirsty shark roaming the water for unsuspecting sacks of meat, only this time with the name “Brucette” (which is a dumb low-effort name, so I prefer to instead refer to her as “Mrs. Bitey McBurnface”). It’s pretty much just a complete beat-for-beat retread of the original, minus any ounce of thematic depth, acting skills, or writing prowess, but honestly, I couldn’t care less. If I wanted JAWS, I’d watch JAWS; this instead nails all the marks for a fun dumb thrilling creature feature, and a lot of the attack scenes…

Actually so much better than I expected. A lot of people from the first movie showed up in this, so it really felt like a second movie set in the same universe. And even though Roy Scheider famously didn’t wanna make this, I think he’s still pretty good in it. It’s just a fun time with a big shark and all my good friends from amity island. I just can’t hate that. Shoutouts Bruce 2 though, that fish‘s a bad motherfucker.

Jaws 2 is a Salieri movie, like T3 or Thunderdome, a perfectly decent picture forever in the shadow of greatness. It plays the hits, sure, but has a different cadence, and it’s a little lethargic. Scheider does drunk really well. The islanders’ deep brown tans make me worried, but Jaws 2: Malignant Melanoma was likely not a compelling pitch to the studio.

I love how I haven’t reviewed Jaws yet, But I have reviewed Jaws 2. Yall, Do I have my priorities straight or what? 😎 Anyways, Jaws 2 I remember having fun with. The first time seeing it, Being with my Nanna, I think helped make the experience more fun. Because rewatching it, It wasn’t bad. But wasn’t as fun as I remembered, lol. I do like the central idea this film presents. Brody having long lasting trauma from the first…

I love Jaws 2 because I am of the opinion that this is the film that started the unnecessary sequel trend that still poisons and proliferates Hollywood to this day. If I’m to be positive about this movie: then this is a fantastic continuation of the story of Chief Brody, his family, and the general hijinx of the town of Amityville! I can’t believe this asshole mayor was able to keep his job from the first one but I’ll always have a weird love for this film & I don’t know how else to put it…

Jaws 2 follows, police chief Martin Brody who must convince a skeptical town that a new great white shark is terrorizing Amity island four years after the original attacks. This movie is pretty much a watered down version of the original jaws movie, its a lot less scary, but it’s still good though, there’s a good plot line with Martin Brody trying to convince people the shark attack actually happened, also everyone going on boats to have fun including Martin’s son’s Michael, and Sean, also all the boats get destroyed and Martin has to take a boat to get everyone from the water.

Jaws 2 feels much smaller than the first. The movie looks great and is well directed, but it feels more like a mostly forgettable matinee. While Roy Scheider is great, he doesn’t have two other highly eccentric actors to share the screen with, leaving him to carry all the weight on his own.

Only two things I like about this movie: the cinematography and the score. Man, John Williams is so good This movie really bored me. It’s too similar to the first movie so I just kept thinking about that one; I miss Hooper. I wish this was about ten minutes shorter Honestly, my favorite scene is with the scuba divers. Williams’ score is so electric and the blue water with green seaweed looks so pretty. Decent scare too

I think this movie is just not very good, the story is fine, the acting is fine, a lot of this movie is just fine, and it looks cheaper than its predecessor even though the reported budget was twice as much… now with all of that out of the way I honestly really enjoy this movie… the lighting and set design is well done and there are a fair few number of shots that I really enjoyed the coloring of…

Just not as good as the first I like the furtherment of Brody’s character Overall, the plot is decent, but it’s just a bit too convenient & coincidental at times. It’s incredibly similar Jaws 1, but I like how the plot & themes kinda diverge, giving us more content & characters to expand the story among the jaws universe. (?) Cinematography & suspense is done well, but it’s not comparable to the first Jaws. The overall vibe isn’t thrown off, but it certainly doesn’t have that “Spielberg magic.” Could’ve been better, but not too far off the mark 7.3/10

Direct sequels always have to decide how much they should resemble their predecessor vs how much they should be their own thing. And Jaws 2 flunks that test coming and going… Because every single time Jaws 2 tries to fully recycle a plot beat from the original Jaws it screws them up. It sucks that this spends so much of its second act having Sheriff Brody argue with the town elders about whether or not there’s a killer shark in…

Poor Brody is slowly going insane and you can’t really blame everyone for not believing him. It was hard watching knowing he was correct about the shark being there. Maybe next time they’ll listen to him?? The shark in this was odd. Sometimes it looked really great and other times it was laughable. The story was surprisingly good for what I expected from a sequel.

Feels more like a reboot than a sequel. It’s as if everyone has completely forgotten that Brody has already faced a massive shark, making his warning and fears seem irrational and treating him like he’s lost his mind. It’s entertaining enough, but calling it good would be a stretch.

Just when you thought it was safe to greenlight a sequel… Nathan and Sam kick off The Search for More Money, a mini-retrospective devoted to those inevitable Hollywood follow-ups born after somebody at the studio looked at the box-office receipts and said, “Well…why don’t we just do that again?” First into the water: Jaws 2, the 1978 sequel tasked with following one of the greatest blockbusters ever made. And while the shark may have had fewer mechanical problems this time…

You know Jaws 2 really gets a raw deal. Is it as good as Jaws? No of course not to even suggest such a thing in a ludicrous. That said however I also believe that Jaws 3 and 4 are soooo fucking bad that Jaws 2 also gets unfairly dragged in the mud with them. That’s a damn shame. If those much worse sequels did not exist I think Jaws 2 would be remembered much more fondly. If you’ve never seen Jaws 2 then change that go see it, it’s not a 5 star classic like the original but it’s a damn fine sequel.

Unfortunately, this film doesn’t stand up to the original. Where the original had long tense kills that make you feel the dread as the great white closes in; this film has quick and fast kills where the shark pops in and out within a minute or so, losing the factor that makes the original the film that it is. Jaws 2 is one of those sequels where you can understand why it was made, but you also have to ask: did we really need another shark attack in Amity? I gave Jaws 2 2 out of 5 stars. The biggest problem is that it spends so much time trying to recreate the original movie that it rarely feels like its own thing. The first Jaws had suspense, memorable characters, great pacing, and a feeling that the shark was almost…

I was a big fan of the first movie, which I don’t consider a perfect/flawless work. It had an abrupt/awkward ending (which is also the problem here), authority figures that ignored the problem were not held accountable and we got none of their reactions at the end (which is also a problem here) and a few minor ones. But the story was good overall and the cast/acting was very solid. This being said about the first, combined with the fact…

I don’t think this is as bad as people say it is. Obviously the filmmakers knew they couldn’t match the legendary success of the original so they just went balls to the wall.

My biggest gripe is that it’s honestly just a little boring. I can tell that although this is obviously a cash grab, there’s still some attempt at heart and passion behind it.

It’s enjoyable to watch but there’s just no originality. Roy Scheider is so great as Chief Brody again, but it’s almost like the film is trying to perfectly replicate the original movie and it’s not successful. There are so many new characters who are just annoying and unmemorable. Somehow the shark looks a lot worse than in the first movie three years prior. Also that has got to be the worst mayor of all time.

Litt mindre prating, langt mindre samfunnskritisk.

Spielberg’s USS Indianapolis concept would’ve been so fucking cool but at least we got a solid sailboat attack sequence and an even more manic “Chief” Brody.

Sharns near Amity when they hear kids having fun: Not on my watch!!! Nom nom nom.

A lot more classical horror movie compared to the original which also had this adventure feel with them on the boot. It’s not bad but not as good as the original

Not the classic the original is, but still a very fun, tense thrill ride. Also, the second-in-command cop played the motorist in Clue!

It’s no Jaws but it ain’t bad!

I think all the teenage characters are written well and established quickly for the little screen time they each get. The tensions really good and I like the plot, it fits jaws really well. It’s too slow in the beginning, I feel they could easily cut 30 minutes off from it. The ending feels abrupt, would have been nice to see the mayor get his cumuppins or atleast give Brody his job back.

Feels like there is a kernel of an interesting idea here with everyone in Amity thinking Brody is a kook for suggesting that the town is dealing with ANOTHER monster great white. But leaning into that premise more effectively would have required hiding the shark for a while, and I’m sure that wasn’t an option for the studio looking to print money by promising a big shark. So instead we basically just get JAWS again… but with no Dreyfuss, no Shaw, and no Spielberg. My verdict: not as good as the first one!

Finally a film where you are justified to cheer when the shark does its thing. If only the “hot girl” (someone’s cousin) had been at least maimed–she was the worst. The film focuses on the younger crowd in Amity but honestly it is a scatter-shot approach and even the Brody kids are mere placeholders for actual characters. In a film with “more shark” than the first one, it does a poor job of scaring anyone, with only one single jump-scare worthy of a heart flutter.

Trotzdem ganz passabel.

Began watching this years ago and never finished. I mean, talk about milking it for everything it worth, pointless sequel that has no real substance. Shocked to find out there’s a Jaws 3-D and a Jaws 4!? Like what are we doing lol. Another great poster though.

Somehow MORE intense for #Shygirl than the original, though in her words, “not as good”. I think the threat being to kids (one of whom is close to her age) makes all the difference.

Has its dull moments and is fairly tame, with a low kill count, but this was ultimately reasonably entertaining too, with a few good jump scares.

The monster is fun, but the suspense before it appears is even better. It has flaws, but none big enough to ruin the night.
