48/100 Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon are back with a new Bourne movie, and this time, they brought Topical issues! Although the action is looser and more defined, resulting in a less visceral feel (a core component of Greengrass’s other two outings), and the story is fabricated out of thin ‘Greatest Bourne Hits’ slices, Jason Bourne is mostly fine, supporting solid performances which sell some of the drama when it isn’t relegated to a computer monitor. The first act riot sequence in Greece is an all-timer Bourne set-piece, toppling character after character into a pan of sizzling tension obscured by smoke, flares, and police presence. A brutal confrontational fight scene involving a cooking pot was fun, as was the scene…

As much as I fully expect that Jason Bourne will garner a very mixed critical and audience reaction, the response of one chap who was in the screening I went to was most unexpected. About 45 minutes in, a very loud snore suddenly made its presence known. Jason Bourne is a very loud movie as well, so this guy was really rolling ’em home. He stayed asleep for about 45 minutes as well. The perils of going to a 10:15 morning viewing, I suspect. Quite how someone could sleep through this at the cinema, I really have no idea. Like I say, this one will split opinions right down the middle, I would imagine. Paul Greengrass is back and has…

After delivering a kickass action spy trilogy, the fifth installment in Jason Bourne is kinda strictly hit n miss. Though it treads along on a much familiar entertaining filmmaking style offering decent thrills with solid action set pieces, the story thread as such doesn’t add anything new nor does it offer you much to validate its character restart. Though it’s not bad by any means, just that it doesn’t live up to the high bar set by its predecessors and ends up an average watch.

The script/story is dogshit and full of lazy touches all around (eg copying files into a folder called “black operations,” everyone’s texting style in this movie is identical, there’s no way Mark Zuckerberg would ever agree to do a panel with the head of the CIA, etc.). But I’m so starved for ANY practical action scenes these days that my estimation of this film has grown considerably since it came out. There are at least two excellent chase sequences (the finale is still incredible), plus the movie does a nice inversion of having the “asset” being the one who’s hunted. Seeing a sequence where you know the filmmakers actually took a SWAT truck and plowed it through approximately 86 vehicles for real is basically a breath of fresh air after seeing Quantumania. Most importantly, it stays true to the feel of the original trilogy, unlike Legacy. Not a worthy send-off for the character. But it could’ve been even worse.

I remember watching this movie in cinema and then leaving the theater to see a squad car of cops waiting for me outside of the theater because of weird drama that I was not responsible for. That isn’t relevant to the movie at all but I will always think of that when I think of this movie.

I don’t see why this was made at all. They made up an entirely new reason for it to work, but they should have left it still. Honestly, I would have preferred a James Bond situation; they don’t need to all be Jason Bourne, but they could be in the same program or different countries’ programs. Pretty sick ending fight, probably one of the best finales in the franchise. I just feel like the horse has to be dead from all this kicking. 2016 || Matt Damon || Bourne

Undoubtedly, Jason Bourne is an improvement over its predecessor, The Bourne Legacy, which didn’t feature the titular character at all after Matt Damon refused to return without Paul Greengrass as director. This led to Tony Gilroy taking over as director after writing the script for the previous films, The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. The Bourne Legacy saw Jeremy Renner replacing Damon as the leading man, with the plot focusing on his character, Aaron Cross, exposing…

Sooooo am I crazy, or does this movie kinda fuck? I think this was my favorite rewatch in the entire franchise. Only saw it once before, in the theater, and was stunned to find out how well it held up on 4K. Two huge considerations from me: This is Damon’s most physically convincing portrayal of Bourne. The dude is cut up, natty weight, and a fuckin fighter. He really knows how to handle himself in this. So, consideration 1: the final…

tragically it hits all the bourne notes but every note is either very sharp or flat.. dare I say that it feels almost like if you told chatgpt to write you a bourne script but luckily 2016 is saving this movie from those allegations. this is pure human error baybeee

Imagine you order your favorite pasta from your favorite restaurant and the best part is this restaurant’s special sauce. You end up moving and ten years later you return to your favorite restaurant and order your favorite pasta. The pasta shows up but the restaurant is no longer serving the special sauce. You have the same noodles, meat, protein and cheese but the sauce is missing. You discover that none of the other ingredients were what mattered, what brought it all together was that special sauce. That realization makes you a bit sadder than you expect. That’s basically what this movie is.

Featuring everything you know and love about Bourne movies: •A car chase scene with a shaky camera ✅ • A new bad guy played by an actor you probably recognize from something else who is here to do the exact same thing as the bad guy from the last movie ✅ • A woman who, despite all the hardheaded men around her, decides to forego her core job responsibilities and compassionately take the side of the guy they’re hunting ✅

I wrongly thought I’d never seen this before; that’s how memorable it is. The “Deep Dream” Facebook stand-in, on-screen “hacking,” and whole “privacy but … social media!” dilemma are all so laughable and/or lame that the whole endeavor just feels stupid. Do CIA directors make a habit of doing panels with the likes of Mark Zuckerberg? Do rogue CIA operatives make a habit of storing encrypted files on thumb drives with “ENCRYPTED” stamped on the side? Do Bourne movies set…

Watched from 5:35pm to 7:35pm. Honestly did feel kinda repetitive having an aged Bourne vsing the CIA again but this time the plot felt much weaker than the other three. All Bourne did was read the Treadstone files which he is literally part of (also they wrote an incorrect date of birth for Bourne in the files in this movie, it said 4th June 1978 but in earlier movies it was officially 13th September 1970) and then the CIA decided…

Nine years after the conclusion of the original trilogy and following the largely misguided and ultimately forgettable The Bourne Legacy, Matt Damon returns to the role that made Jason Bourne one of the defining figures of modern espionage cinema. Jason Bourne, the fifth and ostensibly final instalment of the franchise, clearly sets out to restore the series to its former glory while, in effect, quietly attempting to erase the misstep that preceded it. The problem is that, despite its intentions,…

Definitely is a Jason Bourn movie but the tech lingo slop is hard to get past. Part of the reason the original movies were so good is that they leaned into simple but punchy action. Whatever, solid action movie, and I could get past it all for some good old Bourn fight sequences

A few thoughts about this film. Number one, man does action. Other man does action. Cute woman does computer stuff. That is the entire plot of this movie. I am not a fan of these films, though it was interesting seeing Matt Damon work with the Ocean’s Eleven guy again.

-
R
On rewatch there is really nothing original here, but I loved spending a little more time with Bourne. I really hope they make 1 more and pass the keys to another actor successfully
-
E
Loved the trilogy, but this one is bleak… cause, like, who is Jason Bourne? What does he stand for? What does he like, dislike? What is his personality besides gagging his enemies with cold one-liners? What is he fighting for, except for revenge, ig? But these are questions I was already asking after the first movie, the saving grace being the stunning action sequences and the fact that it’s not boring. Matt Damon just naturally being a likeable dude really…

Much weaker than the others, a film that was made for the sake of bringing the franchise back. It has some good moments, but we don’t really learn anything else about Bourne’s character and the plot is pretty underwhelming. Cool car chase as always and some solid action.

“I’m trying to find a different way” Chases French guy for 20 minutes just to brutally murder him out of revenge. Greengrass can’t help himself, he HAS to get that sweet sweet revenge kill in the end.

They named this one Jason Bourne and I guess he’s in it but eh barely. We spend most the time following guys that aren’t him and when we do see him he’s been drained of every drop of sauce that once carried. What was interesting about the first movies was the grounded nature and the intrigue around Bourne. In this movie a guy in a SWAT tank (who is revealed to have killed Bourne’s father, who also started treadstone…

¿No cierto?

Definitely should have let Tony Gilroy fix up the script on this one, it’s just too flavourless. Focuses on a weird Facebook ripoff subplot and doesn’t deliver many thrills before the final act. Probably the sloppiest entry in the franchise and it’s not hard to figure out why, it’s just feels too modern and even Paul Greengrass’ directing style isn’t as fun as before.

Happy 10th Anniversary to the final (for now) installment of the Bourne franchise, and most importantly, the legendary “Jesus Christ, it’s Jason Bourne!” meme that I remember seeing all over the Internet in 2016-2017. That all said…JESUS CHRIST ITS JASON BOURNE! (finally back after The Bourne Legacy) This one was better than I was expecting to be honest. While leagues better than the god-awful fourth installment, this fifth installment didn’t exactly break new ground with a franchise that, quite frankly,…

This one still sucks. The setpieces are unmemorable. Tommy Lee Jones looks bored the whole time. Alicia Vikander has constant trouble maintaining her dubious American accent. It feels like there are only half a dozen people working for the CIA because the movie wants to save money on extras. In short, this feels like the lazy cash-grab I can confidently say that it is. And the dogshit bullet to the heart is the insipid screenplay written by the director, Paul…

Jason Bourne 2016 was a pretty decent “ending” however it could have ended on Ultimatum to be honest, but im not complaining for more movies they are quite enjoyable after all none of them are bad. Honestly for me this series was great. The original three movies culminated in a fantastic handheld cinema verite style that was engaging, visceral, and really brought the whole thing together. My girl Nicky is still alive i don’t acknowledge the fourth movie, horrible narrative decision. This is really just a straight copy of Bourne Supremacy, director kills the female characters and the story goes again. The Frenchman pisses me off simply because he is french. Also bringing a big actor to this popular franchise did nothing, Tommy Lee Jones was unnecessary any old man could have played him. Its a three cause justice for my girl Nicky and I love Jasonnnnnnnn.
