“What the fuck happened to you, man? Your ass used to be beautiful.” Whenever great Robert De Niro performances are discussed, his work in Jackie Brown rarely comes up. It’s understandable: his role is a supporting turn; this relatively low-key, leisurely paced character study about aging and ambition didn’t generate the kind of buzz and box office expected from a Quentin Tarantino film after Pulp Fiction (1994); and there are, arguably, four other equally great performances in the film (by Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, and QT axiom Samuel L. Jackson). But I’ve rarely seen De Niro disappear into a role as thoroughly as he does here, all the more remarkable given the fact that he was at the…

100 Making Jackie Brown after the pop-culture lexicon of Pulp Fiction is one of Tarantino’s finest decisions. Giving a platform to the screen icons he loved growing up: Pam Grier, Robert Forester, De Niro etc. A selection of people caught up in a life of crime, and barely having any energy to scramble their way out of it. Locations comprised of dive bars and malls and quiet apartments filled with weed smoke. Jackie Brown is by turns romantic and tired and wistful. It celebrates simple pleasures, but the movie is by no means a broad stylistic pastiche. To me, it captures the chase towards something more, whatever that may be. Jackie Brown may initially sell itself as hardened and meticulous,…

“I’m 56 years old. I can’t blame anybody for anything I do.” Just the most tired resigned caper movie possible. So much loving care in how it is happy to just sit and watch all those people it colects along the way. There’s very few bits on movies that get to me quite like when the camera goes out of focus on Forster when he goes back to cry in the end.

I like how imperfect these people are. Max Cherry isn’t a badass gangster in a black and white suit; he’s a schlub with thinning hair. Jackie Brown isn’t a master criminal; before her big confrontation with a gun runner she practices her tough guy quick draw. Louis Gara forgets where he parked his car at the mall in the middle of a robbery. They’re just people! I think some of Tarantino’s later movies, great as they are, could use a little more of that humanness. I remember some people were disappointed that Jackie Brown wasn’t as showy or as complex as Pulp Fiction when it came out, but even if Tarantino’s choices aren’t quite as flashy here, they’re absolutely perfect.…

Strongly Tarantino’s worst. So glad I’m done with this dickhead’s filmography; I’m not dignifying him with a ranked list. “Jackie Brown” isn’t even thematically or substantially rotten like “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” is, it just sucks on a script, character, and acting level. Purely dull dialogue driven moments fill a bloated runtime that could’ve been a short film without losing literally anything. Don’t bother. It’s a shame that a high-profile film about a black woman driven by her success and intelligence had to be made by this absolute clown and written with the intensity and complexity of a smudged blot of ink.

really fun movie. this and death proof feel very similar in the way that they are almost the most forgettable of the tarantino movies. they are both so fun and easy to love, but not talked about nearly as much. reservoir dogs is amazing and was a great start, and then he moved on to pulp fiction, which is a masterpiece that didn’t work for me, and then jackie brown is just a bunch of fun. then kill bill is…

Didn’t finish but I’ve seen the film at least twice before this one, making it my third time. Ended this watch at the 1 hour 30 minute mark. Funny thing, when Samuel L and De Niro come back from shopping that gave me the idea to ask my Aunt if we could go shopping today lol and now we seem to be doing that. 😄

Y lo he confirmado.

The plot is pretty simple, but it’s still very entertaining. Pam Grier and Samuel L. Jackson give great performances, and I really enjoyed the character writing and pacing.

The characters aren’t memorable although De Niro and Michael Keaton gave incredible performances. It is a really heavy information movie and all that is boring. The character motivations are invisible at most and sometimes don’t make sense. It was a mid movie, overall, except for the performances.

A wild yet concise film. Not Tarantino at 100%, it’s a little long but the 3rd act is great. Pam Grier is amazing, Sam Jackson is eccentric and powerful, De Niro is subtle and honestly a bit underutilised. Pretty flawed in certain places but it’s made up for with signature Tarantino style, including way too much feet.

Filmin sonunda maxin jackie ile gitmemesi benim hoşuma gitti fallen angels filminde ki ajanı anımsattı ve kırmızı dudakları beni çok güldürdü bir diğer güldüren şey ise before i knock you the fuck up çevirisinin seni mıhlamadan önce olması altyazı candır ya :)) i play the street life :))

Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown is zonder twijfel Tarantino’s minste film.

It can definitely be slow at parts and a little explain-y but excellent flick. I think Jackie is one of Tino’s best main characters. Also the fact that crude humor and excessive blood do not dominate this one is very refreshing.

⚫️Great acting across the cast, Pam Greer out here stunting on men was iconic but the film was a tad long ⚫️ Love the score, reflects the tempo in scenes and puts you in the right mood for whatever is about to go down ⚫️Film speaks eloquently on poverty and cycles within it to keep people down
