I didn’t have high expectations going in, given the lukewarm reception, and that’s exactly how it turned out. Almost everything about this movie is meh, aside from the finale. The cast is great, with Ewan McGregor shining the brightest despite being a supporting character. But even his charisma can’t distract from the dull plot. For a film where giants are so central to the story, they are one of the weakest aspects. Most of the blame lies with the CGI. It’s not terrible, but it’s very early-2010s-coded and it shows. It also relies too much on its subpar CGI, which prevents it from standing the test of time very well. Also, I couldn’t help but be baffled by how long…

Early on, “Jack the Giant Slayer” is replete with issues. The film’s story, a retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk, is limp and offers nothing new or special. The film’s pacing lacks spark, and its tone wavers from swashbuckling to silly. Finally, the film’s CGI-driven thrills feel empty. So, why does the film deserve an admittedly generous and qualified four stars? To answer, when the film finally hits its stride, it becomes an exciting, entertaining adventure. The elements that were strong since the beginning (lush design work, the rakishly heroic Ewan McGregor, the themes grounded in the importance of storytelling, and the grotesquerie of giants) take on a new lustre, and the tone dispatches previous silliness. It may take some…

1 hour and 54 minutes of ewan mcgregor being hot and nicholas hoult trying to pretend he’s straight. that wasnt enough to make it a decent movie though

A wonderfully old-school fairy tale adventure that recaptures the magic of classic swashbucklers. It’s got massive scale, fun creature designs, and a delightfully earnest sense of wonder that makes it an easy, highly entertaining watch. 🫘☁️

underrated film. It doesn’t have the great visuals but it is still entertaining and action packed. I really liked the third, and the portrayal of Nicholas Hoult as Jack was fantastic

I wish it would be R-rated film that Bryan Singer initially envisioned (I blame the studio executives, yes!). But, still good enough film to decompress your stress.

A bit disappointed cause I thought he really going to kill most of the giants but just killed one and then defeating them by using the crown instead. I was hoping for more fight scenes. Oh, the giants were definitely terrifying!

jack supposed to be a curious little kid who stumbling into a magical adventure and somehow changing his entire life. so when he turned out to be grown man with the whole romance and princess thing. it didn’t give me enough of that magic or wonder. i want something more whimsical and magical, where everything feels a little strange and wondrous through a a child’s eyes.
-

Do nada

B
looking back at this film, it’s actually pretty shit. the costume looks plasticky, the island doesn’t make sense having hella waterfalls, the lines were cringe and cheesy. but who cares it’s a children movie and shit was my childhood basically alongside other films. and the princess is certainly one of my earliest crushes.

It’s not a great fantasy adventure, but it is entertaining enough to watch the epic adaptation of the classic fairy tale come to life. Plus, they have a great cast with Nicholas Hoult, the legendary Ewan McGregor, and the beautiful princess Eleanor Tomlinson! 💖👑

I’ve rewatched this loads just downloaded it for the 15.5 hour flight from Sydney to Cape Town

T
-
T
STRAIGHT FIREEE i love the darker tone they did with this movie and it totally fits. the giants are also scary as shit and it really showcases how dangerous they would actually be. another thing I enjoyed was how they made the giants quite smart and not just dumb walking goofballs like in the bfg
-
O
I watched this film as a kid and was really amazed to be honest, but now looking back at the past this was just a lame ass movie I’ll rate it higher just for the love of the game. Present me would rate this more like a 2.5
-
S
É uma aventura tradicional, fácil de assistir. As batalhas e perseguições funcionam bem.
-
P
It’s enthusiastically acted and reasonably fun, but Jack the Giant Slayer is also overwhelmed by digital effects and a bland, impersonal story.
- Synopsis
- The story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
