Replicates the dopey earnest charm but not (for lack of a better term) the original’s simplicity. Not nearly enough Goldblum/Pullman biodigital jazz.

On July 2nd, they arrive. On July 3rd, they strike. On July 4th, we fight back. On June 24th, 2016, we…wish they had won. In the summer of 1996, Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day” reinvented the alien invasion genre for the blockbuster era, using newfangled digital technology to make a B-movie big enough to bring the whole world together. Its reputation may be overinflated by millennials who subsist on a steady diet of their own petrified kitsch, but Emmerich’s war of the worlds has nevertheless come to represent a type of full-bodied studio spectacle for which we all ought to be nostalgic. In fact, the self-described “master of disaster” seems really pissed at the people who aren’t. His lazy insult of…

Alright, this wasn’t as terrible to me as some people made it out to be. It wasn’t great. But I didn’t hate it. 🤷 All of it just kind of feels unnecessary. If you couldn’t get Will Smith to do it. Why even bother? Sure, you got majority of the cast back…but Will WAS ID4. Also, the plot was super convoluted and overall just kind of stupid. I still found some enjoyment in it. I thought visually it was pretty solid. Also, I actually like Liam Hemsworth. Sure, not as much as Thor, but I still.enjoy his work. So I thought he did pretty decent. Would have been cooler if they brought the original kids back to play their roles.…

Mindless, lacks substance. You don’t really give a shit about anyone but hey the 2 hours flew by.

Did they really think they could distract us from the lack of Will Smith by casting Liam Hemsworth & Jessie T. Usher?😒 That’s just embarrassing.🤦♀️ Slog of a sequel to one of my fave movies💩. All the fun is sucked out & the new leads have exactly zero personality😑. That one star is for Judd Hirsch & Judd Hirsch ONLY🚍⭐️.

28/100 Hollywood has been obsessed with ‘dinosaur’ franchises – fossilized blockbusters lost to the sands of time and nostalgia – to the point where reclaiming quality isn’t even a factor. At least with Jurassic world (Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars application form, ironically enough) or The Force Awakens, their rose-colored adventures were solidified by spectacle and a sense of character; a common trademark of their iconic predecessors. But what happens when a belated sequel is based on a film which wasn’t even good in the first place? Enter Independence Day: Resurgence. Now, the “classic” Will Smith/Jeff Goldblum vehicle isn’t without its charms. A smothering of cheese and sci-fi destruction carries itself to a point, and Bill Pullman’s rousing speech still flies…

Twenty years ago, director Roland Emmerich put on screen an alien-invasion disaster feature with moments so iconic & jaw-dropping that viewers n critics alike were left dazzled by the sheer scale & size of its ambition. Independence Day was a watershed event for its genre and its influence on both disaster films & blockbuster filmmaking cannot be downplayed. But Independence Day was also in every way a self-contained film. It never needed a sequel and its legacy was well-preserved for years to come. That was until Emmerich decided to put a dent on it, which is exactly what he does with Independence Day: Resurgence. A strong contender for the absolute worst film of 2016, this sequel is as needless & cringeworthy as movies can…

Like so many Hollywood blockbusters these days, Independence Day: Resurgence ends with a beginning. Before the dust has even settled on the final conflict, the next conflict is already set in motion. Rather than tying a bow around the previous two hours of planet-leveling carnage, Resurgence’s last scene begins teasing another sequel. Then it cuts to black and the credits begin to roll. When they did last night at Brooklyn’s United Artists Court Street 12, one of the other attendees began screaming. This is as much of their tirade as I could transcribe: “Bulls—! Bulls—! I want my motherf—ing money back! In 38 years, that is the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life! What the f— was that? We just watched a f—ing preview!” Full review at ScreenCrush.

The aliens came back for revenge and I came back for entertainment. We were both disappointed but at least I stayed awake this time.

For a good chunk of this, I was enjoying it, but it becomes too messy, with the alien queen having the aim of a stormtrooper when trying to shoot the bus. There’s some absolutely terrific effects here, which again, I was all for but then I feel like they got worse. I was fully lost when it became so clear that even exterior shots in the desert were filmed in front of a green screen. So throughly enjoyable for the first hour, a bit of a mess the second hour.

it just feels so soulless, but I cant help but have a blast with it. The alien design is peak, I love the action, all the destruction, has nothing on the og and feels so strange in comparison, idk what the hell they were doing, but I don’t hate it.

I think I rated this originally thinking it was the first Independence Day.

Might be the one of the most unnecessary and worst sequels we’ve ever had. Lost all its charm, excitement and humour.

In raising the stakes of an already ridiculously excessive disaster movie, especially with its surprisingly bad blockbuster cgi, its scale becomes incoherent – it can neither visually communicate it nor come up with any way to emotionally convey it. Despite being composed of a significant amount of homage, this feels far more like Battleship or the Transformers movies than the original Independence Day.

This movie falls into the category of didn’t really need to be made. Honestly, I kinda respect that they basically did beat for beat of the first one.

Entertaining, just that. Nothing more unfortunately.

Take the aesthetic moment of Pacific Rim then remove charm and creativity and replace them with jingoism. Top it off with some pretty bad performances and questionable directing and you are left this with mess.
