I didn’t expect to give it this rating but honestly its just an overly long, boring, uninteresting torture porn and violence against women. Which sucks because i was intertested in checking out more takashi miike films. atleast kakihara was hot though

it’s really worrying that after watching such a perverted & vile movie my first thought was “ok i want to steal all of kakihara’s clothes”

My friend requested that we watch something “twisted”. I simply put Ichi the Killer in and let her regret that particular request and letting me choose to begin with.

I have very little idea what actually happened with regard to all the silly manga yakuza gang war plotting, but there was a bunch of absurdly gross sadomasochistic torture, some weirdly experimental camera choices/PS2 CGI, and Shinya Tsukamoto shows up for a bit. 4 stars.

Idk bruh. The beginning and middle were so fire but the ending really drops the ball lowkey. I liked the editing, comedy, action, how the movie itself is filmed and the cool vibes this movie gives off but the ending just made shit start falling apart.

a window into hell. screwball yakuza scrangly guitar movie but it’s literally just pools of suffering upon pools of suffering / juxtaposed with the most horrific torture sequences i’ve ever seen. i hate torture. gore doesn’t scare me but pain does. I almost turned it off after the hooks and oil guy 20 minutes in, and that is the worst part of the movie, and the practical effects are cheesy enough that it’s… not chill.. but.. survivable.. but no movie…

The actor who plays Ichi just has the most baby eyes ever. Also I prefer this Kakihara over the manga’s.

Finally rewatching this after wanting to for a while. Over the past 4ish months. I’ve gotten into manga, and I read one manga that stood out a lot. Homunculus (which also has a live action adaptation). And I absolutely loved it. One of my favourite mangas of all time now actually. When I finished the series I wanted more from it. I wanted something that was like it. So I checked out more of hideo Yamamoto’s works. Turns out he…

Violence without morality or justice. I have to hand the filmic adaptation of Ichi the Killer credit for being such an imaginative depiction of a level of absurd violence and torture that would probably be incredibly difficult to make real, and in some ways the film shows its age with compelling but primitive special effects that are still used quite effectively to depict this outrageous ultra-violence. The violence itself is overbearing and gratuitous at times; it would be hard to…

Everything about this is just swaggy as fuck. It’s low-key a dark comedy and I wasn’t expecting that. Also the costume design in this in nuts. Kakihara’s closet goes so crazy. Takashi directed the fuck out of this twisted ass movie lol
