Just noticed now how people hate this movie, although I love it with all my heart since I was a kid, that’s all.

I Am Sam (2001) tells the story of a mentally handicapped man’s struggle to retain custody of his only child against the background of some of the most blatant product placement in cinematic history. I am not a cynic. I enjoy the emotional masturbation provided by a good weepie as much as the next man (possibly even a little more). However there is something so woefully artificial at the heart of I Am Sam (2001) that it denies the viewer even this most basest of gratifications. I really wanted to like this movie. Early on, I tried to reframe the story in my mind as more of a “fairy tale” than a regular narrative due to the level of contrivance…

A good movie. Cinematography is good, the colors are good looking. The story is really simple and the length is pretty long and the film focuses on the same problem throughout the film and I’m 100% sure it could have been cut down to around 110 minutes. Sean penn gives a good performance here overall. The plot is good overall but the second half of it feels sort of odd and because the plot is so simple i don’t really have much to say about it. I actually think this movie is slightly underrated and i think that people could to appreciate it more if they tried. 7.3/10

Mac Demarco sat front row & took a vape rip about ten minutes in before walking out with his group shortly after. I fell asleep for a solid 40 mins and when I woke up there were probably 3 people left in the theater, film festivals are back 🤝

“Eu ia falar para o juíz que eu daria para a Lucy o amor que ela nunca recebeu, mas eu estaria mentindo.” Filme lindíssimo, chorei demais. A relação de Sam e Lucy é adorável, e a história do filme é muito bonita.

fun, cheery, heartfelt. The acting is light and a bit theatrical. I loved the color choices, Very colorful movie and that really serves a purpose with this story I feel. there are some random directing choices I was like “?” abt like that dolly zoom just didnt really feel necessary and the court doesn’t feel realistic, takes me out a bit. although, this movie does a great job showing stressful, overwhelming environments, that lack of time that comes with adulthood, parenthood. its very family friendly as well I do think thats nice.

First movie I remember really crying to as a kid. As an adult, I still think it’s very effective. The themes are straight forward — a type of family movie night drama that doesn’t get made anymore (other than on Lifetime or something with way less budget)… nevermind that film producers’ fear of (misplaced) backlash would further prevent this movie from being made today (however cliche that kind of sentiment is to say in a review). As a side note,…

This is such a beautiful and heartbreaking movie. I’ve always loved Dakota Fanning, and I remember watching this movie when I was younger. It’s one of those movies that really sticks with you because it’s so heartwarming but also incredibly sad. Dakota Fanning was amazing in this, especially for being so young. Her relationship with Sam is what makes the movie so special, and watching how much they love and depend on each other honestly breaks my heart. The movie…
