Wtf why this movie so damn good? It’s perfectly paced, incredibly powerful, striking from an animation perspective (save for a poorly rendered character here and there). Why did I never like this as a kid? It’s the best DreamWorks movie of 2010, the year that also gave us Megamind and Shrek 4. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THAT OUTPUT OF QUALITY IN THE SAME YEAR. SHARK TALE HAS NO EXCUSE ANYMORE

also this has one of the best movie soundtracks ever and the music just sets the tone for the whole movie. finally, hiccup is such a breath of fresh air as a character. i think he speaks to a lot of kids who feel like they’re outcasts or aren’t living up to all the expectations that have been put upon them–and the movie is really powerful because it shows that you can be an incredible person in your own way,…

Hiccup surprisingly okay given the 0 viking therapy options accessible to him. Maybe Gobber is a licensed psychologist. In addition to wigmaker, chef, blacksmith, dentist, carpenter, musician, teacher,…

Even after 1½ decades and two whole propaganda movies, I still don’t forgive Stoic for treating his son like an absolute disgrace for 15 years. I don’t care that he dies in the second movie. Good thing runaway!Hiccup exists😋

This movie has a incredible score, each scene has a sound to make it even more iconic. Hiccups story and motivation is so compelling and so satisfying to see his journey. The cinematography and the shots in certain scenes are beautiful. A generational movie that makes me want a Dragon

Whoever thought giving Hiccup THAT voice needs to be fired. My guy sounds like a bad Squidward impression. Toothless carries tho.

“Extremely peak. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🧡 on sight.” the sheer amount of categories where this movie is pure peak is astounding. the visual storytelling? robust and readable. the animation? beautiful and expressive. the soundtrack? life changing. the aura? lovingly cultivated and harvested at ideal ripeness. i could write a fucking dissertation on the animation for any dragon, and i would only have to use the first ten minutes of the movie. this easily tops my list of dreamworks movies and possibly western…

It’s a solid and fun movie, and I always walk away having enjoyed myself, but I do have some hesitation with the flipping the archetype of the dragon, probably because this modern revisionist impulse has become so trite.

I’ll never need to watch this film again, because this showing with a live orchestra topped all previous viewings. While the plot is cliché and unimpressive, and the characters are frustratingly naive, How to Train Your Dragon is brought to life by John Powell’s magnificent score. Tracks like Test Drive and This is Berk are infinitely memorable, and they truly elevate the film.
-
D
Especially for a kids movie, this movie rocks. Toothless is the cutest and I also love that the side characters dragons match their things/aesthetic.

Saw this performed live by the Cleveland Orchestra with Gracie and our friend. It’s such a magical and unreal experience that I think everyone needs to witness at least once in their life. No one will understand my love for these movies because they are so unbelievably special to me and this film is what started my love for dragons. It always has a special place in my heart
