That moment when DeNiro realizes he has to go after Waingro. He’s not a romantic hero, he’s a small-minded man of violence driven not by ideals or esoteric codes but by the basest of human urges. That moment when Pacino practically dances down the hospital stairs, gleefully fleeing his family for the sake of the chase, freed from the pretense of normalcy, from the obligation to care about anyone else. The tragedy and joy of learning that you cannot escape your fate, that you cannot be anything other than what you are. Other Mann films are more romantic: the heroes of Mohicans and Blackhat see everything around them destroyed and disappear into the wilderness, but together. Miami Vice fuses the romantic and the tragic: the lovers are kept apart, but by the nature of their world, not by choice.

for the first couple times i saw this film back in 2015, i considered natalie portman’s character of lauren to be fairly superfluous, a melodramatic deviation in this epic story of male egos. i don’t think that anymore, because my little sister died tonight, doing the same exact thing that portman’s character did. for the last year or so i couldn’t help but see my sister in this lauren character. when we see her in the film, she’s panicking over seemingly minor things like being late to seeing her dad or the color of her barrettes. but i understood at that point that she was a deeply unstable child, the same way as my sister. that kind of sudden onset…

My biggest problems with this movie: 1. The dialogue is just godawful at times. This is especially true in any scene where a man has a conversation with a woman: Suddenly everything becomes a mess of clichés, as though Michael Mann had never actually listened to a woman talking and made some guesses based on TV shows he’d seen. 2. What the hell was Al Pacino up to here? Yes, yes, he’s a national treasure, but—as my old friend Mina…

I’d say Robert De Niro’s screen presence in this was just unreal in this moviee so effortlessly cool, completely locked in. The robbery sequence was absolutely in peakkk especially that shootout the sound, pacing, and chaos made it hit so hard and also seeing Al Pacino and De Niro sharing the frame still feels like such a fucking moment.Heat is such a damn good movie. Such a gem

Michael Mann loves three things: crime, cinematography, and analyzing toxic masculinity. Specifically, how the pursuit of, or even contact with crime creates a mania, a morbid and greedy drive, that leaves the man incapable of really loving anyone else but the game, no matter how much he tries. Perhaps that’s where this film gets its homosexual reputation from, the relationship between Vincent Hanna and Neil McCully is so powerful because they are the mirror image of themselves. The ultimate expression…

Only thing stopping this from being a 5 is it felt slightly too long for me. Also watched kind of late and was getting tired. Other than that, phenomenal. Two GOATS at their absolute bests. The parallels between Neil and Vincent are just beautiful and haunting. Score is phenomenal. I don’t know how I went this long without watching this. Incredible film

My husband asked me if I would be tempted by Robert Di Nero as a young 20 something graphic designer, and I laughed saying that I was actually thinking how this whole time I considered myself a Pacino girlie, but maybe I’m actually a Rober Di Nero girlie. So yes.

When you watch a movie everyone says is the greatest of all time and it actually is. Honestly having prime Al Pacino and DeNiro in the same movie already makes it fucking awesome, that coffee shop scene with the two was so amazing. The set design is honestly underrated with how these houses look (big fan of the glass cubes) and all the night time scenes from the helicopter looked so good i thought they used miniatures but its all…

Brother you are going down This is crime at its finest. Val Kilmer as Chris is amazing with his home struggles in the movie. Unreal cast overall. Pacino and De Niro in the same movie rarely doesn’t work, and in this movie, their rivalry yet respect for eachother brings an element of tension unlike any other film. Absolute banger

Featuring powerhouse performances from both Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, Heat is a masterpiece that contains multiple scenes that are downright unforgettable. A captivating crime drama that keeps you completely invested during the whole of its long runtime, Heat truly is an impressive achievement in filmmaking.

“for me, the action is the juice” god i fucking love this movie! got to watch at roberta’s in bushwick with neil after a big weekend and it was the cherry on top of it. there will never be a better shootout scene in the history of cinema! it’s insane that only happens at the HALFWAY point. i always forget how many layered plots there are throughout! also that score really is special. a forever fave for me

Everyone shut the fuck up, Al Pacino is being cool as fuck. Picking between your favourite Pacino and DeNiro performances is like trying to pick your favourite child, (I imagine, idfk, I don’t have kids) but this is just another level.

More like Michael Midd amiright?! Oh boy a movie like Heat makes me so glad I no longer feel the need to rate movies based on stars. Things I liked about the movie… the action in it is incredible. The bank shootout scene has some fantastic camerawork and angles. Clearly this film has gone on to influence a myriad of movies which followed it. Pacino and De Niro are really good, too (when they aren’t shouting randomly during their sentences).…

“Don’t let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner.” This film was released the year I was born, and it’s arguably the Best Picture of 1995, although it was noticeably snubbed at the 68th Academy Awards (1996). Heat (1995) deserves that recognition today due to the tainted history of anything including Mel Gibson (Braveheart won the award for Best Picture that year,…

They could’ve kissed in the end and I wouldn’t have even blinked. Lowkey blinked when they didn’t. This is just so fucking awesome man. Letting Pacino wild out like that is just perfect. Literally had to google if GTA V is heavily inspired by this. For obvious reasons sure, but also the music is identical in many ways. Heat is the blueprint man. The thought of Leo and Bale being opposite each other in this sequel makes me want to wake up every morning and brush my teeth.

Did this have to be 2hr 50mins idk but yk if that’s the time they needed to keep the really cinematic scenes I’ll let it pass. The way Michael Mann weaves the characters and structure through each scene was increasingly tense. Each character’s arc heightened the escalating stakes, creating powerful parallels that astounded me. Powerful lines like, ‘you don’t live with me, you live with the remains of dead people’ was masterfully poetic in shaping Vincent’s journey. Neil’s central philosophy being built around being able to walk away from everything, leading to his ultimate downfall made this a master class in cinematic storytelling.

Near perfect movie, but arguably the most pivotal crime thriller/heist movie of the modern film era. Just a lot to track and follow plot wise, but what a star studded cast. I’m sure Michael Mann had an idea as to how iconic the diner conversation would be, but perhaps not to this level.
