• I want nothing but happiness and good fortune for Queen Latifah. What a pleasant surprise to see her in this. 🙂 • Bynes’ whole direction for this film was “you’re horny.” Always nice to watch hot people be horny for two hours, even when it’s tinged with “I got da chocolate fever!!” This movie walked so the infamous Drake tweet could run. • Travolta is just doing a Mike Myers impression this whole time. • The racial politics of this movie are not at all good, but I couldn’t find it as embarrassing as I would in a Green Book or a The Help, for some reason. reasons why corny collins is better than link larkin: – prioritised integrating the show even though it could turn audiences against him and he could lose his career – he’s a better singer (see: the run he does at the end of ‘it’s hairspray’) – zac efron is fine but james marsden… 💞 – link is a poor high school student but corny is the host of the show and therefore is rich and that is my case for a corny collins show spinoff

Ugh utter joy it’s so good. Watching as a child I do not think I realized how funny/satirical it is. I choose to believe Zac Efron has several more good performances in him. And Queen Latifah career revival when.

“Oh no!” ”What?” ”Your hair deflated!” ”Let it. It was just a symbol of my conformity to the man.” John Travolta as Edna Turnblad is such an iconic performance (dare I say his best). Hairspray is great – it’s full of life, great songs, and has important messaging. This movie, along with the performances from quality singers and actors result in a colourful and immersive musical. “Mrs Turnblad! I’d know whose mother you were anywhere!”
