Yeah… you know how people say Fast and Furious is a blatant rip off of Point Break? Hmmmmmm… are we sure its not a rip off this movie? Are we sure? Are we? But seriously, this was a fun early 00s movie. Nicolas Cage was really good in this. I loved his story arc, especially with the whole GT car. Timothy and Delroy were a nice duo of cops trying to catch this fellas. Jolie is barely in this movie and she’s perhaps one of the things I remembered about this flick, though what is it with her making an entrace by coming out or laying underneath something? Vinnie Jones was great and the ending with him had me laughing…

Inexcusable that something bearing even a tangential relation to the great H.B. Halicki is so completely not exciting and climaxes with a crummy CG car jump, but as a Bruckheimer-era antecedent to OCEAN’Ses and FURIOUSes it’s absolutely an anomaly, a semi-improvisatory primary-color caper-comedy, anchored by a jangly Cage before we reflexively expected Cage to be jangly.

This movie was so fun. The cast was stacked. The movie was already pretty good, but everything was amplified by Nicolas Cage. All the cars were very sexy, I just wish they showed the Plymouth superbird more than once (and it was in the background too 😔😔).

Yes it’s got drama, action and high speed car chases – but the wheels are out of alignment for me after watching it again years later. I can’t get over the fact Nicolas Cage can be THAT epic in the denouement car chase wherein he avoids so much danger only to have had knocked his wing mirror off reversing to park behind a car. Still though, the ‘67 Shelby Mustang GT500 gets five stars.

Nicholas Cage stealing 50 cars in one night should be way more fun than this. There’s some genuinely beautiful car porn here, but the film is weirdly bloated, emotionally flat and spends too much time pretending it’s cooler than it actually is

Now this is some good dumb fun car movie with my goat Nic Cage. Crazy just how much Eleanor blew up in car culture after Gone in Sixty Seconds, with people still making tribute cars to this very day. Truly one of the great hero cars in movie history. Also you can tell where the pursuit music for Need for Speed Most Wanted came from. Take it out of this movie and put it into a Most Wanted pursuit and it would fit right in, probably because the same composer, Paul Linford, worked on it.

I’m pretty sure I saw this in theaters when it came out but didn’t remember much about it other than a vague feeling that I was underwhelmed. This time I enjoyed the hell out of it! Amazing cast, soundtrack, and peak Bruckheimer production.

A pretty simple but fun crime action movie with stealing cars at the center of it all with a fun performance from Nic Cage and a good ensemble of characters to help bring a little bit of comedy and drama to the film. It’s also got Angelina Jolie in her prime, which I don’t think she ever really left, so what’s there not to like.

I’m not saying this is better than the Fast and Furious movies but I’d say it’s on par and should not be ignored. I’d even check out sequels if that happened. This movie is funnier than the Fast movies and doesn’t take itself as serious. Which I could also argue is what makes the Fast movies more iconic and memorable. Vinnie Jones was incredible as always. I also love how Nic Cage starts off trying to be normal and just can’t hold it back. Also love that for 10 years, every action movie had to have a final fight in the exact same warehouse.
