Man in suit!!! Man in suit!!! Man in suit!!! Man in suit!!! Man in suit!!! Man in suit!!! Man in suit!!! Man in suit!!! Man in s…….hold on, what’s that reject T-rex from Jurassic Park doing here?

This movie aged horribly. There’s a scene where someone says, “This is the worst thing to happen to the city”, while the Twin Towers are standing in the background and during the end credits they play a P. Diddy song called “Come With Me”

What can I say? Other than I know this film is indefensible to the outside world but the beauty of being here on Letterboxd is you get to disclose your darkest secrets, and I’m here to confess I’m a closet Godzilla ’98 apologist. For me, Godzilla ’98 is schlock on an absurd scale. With this budget, Emmerich was basically handed his Sistine Chapel. For comparison, Godzilla was roughly double the budget of Independence Day. And what a bizarre landmark of 90s blockbustering Godzilla ’98 is. It quite literally feels like a 12-year-old whose life was changed by Jurassic Park……..was suddenly handed the director’s chair on a Godzilla remake. From the juvenile humor to the half-assed science to the fascination with…

Somehow worse than I remembered. I wanted to say that this was not even a Godzilla movie but simply the longest, ugliest and worst Jurassic Park, but then I remembered there was some legitimate competition on that front now.

This movie looks like, and is shit. The “Godzilla” itself–and to even call it by that sacred name is a disgrace–is some of the worst special effects and creature design ever put to film. Just abysmal in every respect. This goes double for the whole last third of the movie which features dozens of baby godzillas, which I truly did not want to look at. However this movie does have two interesting virtues of note. First, a surprisingly funny cast that includes Jean Reno as a French secret agent, Hank Azaria continues his streak of being the go to ethnic stereotype guy, playing a “dumb wop” to quote directly from the movie, fellow Simpsons God Harry Shearer as a douchey…

This is what happens when you hire someone who doesn’t like the Godzilla franchise, to direct a Godzilla film. Emmerich, in his misguided attempts to fix Godzilla, made a wrong turn at Albuquerque and completely missed the point. By trying to make Godzilla more realistic, this film succeeds in stripping away the qualities that defined Godzilla in the first place. Godzilla isn’t just a big scary animal. He’s an unstoppable force of nature. He’s a metaphor for things like atomic bombs, tsunamis, earthquakes, and reactor meltdowns. You can’t stop things like that by shooting at them. This was never intended to be marketed at Godzilla fans. It’s an average popcorn flick designed to appeal to fans of Jurassic Park and…

What if Godzilla was a T-Rex with a shitty face? This is one of the many bold creative gambles that make this the legendary film that it is.

This is the first half star review I have given in my entire life. Let’s start with the good. —the final chase sequence was decent —there are some pretty good practical effects —O’neils actor did a good job —the movie gives a decent scale to the monster That is all I can think of. Now the bad. —when it’s not practical, the cgi effects are bafflingly bad —Matthew Broderick is delivering one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen —all…

I wanted to see if this movie was as bad as I remembered. It’s worse.

Had anyone who worked on this movie ever see any of the other Godzilla movies?

Why was this so damn long????? Broderick was bad, his background didn’t make sense. Way too many characters that didn’t matter. Lots of decisions that didn’t make sense. Nothing cool or scary. Godzilla didn’t look terrible but CGI did suck. Like the French would save us.

Yikes, I knew this was bad but I had a weird feeling I might like it. Nope, I was wrong, and Emmerich strikes again with a stinker. The whole thing looks like it was filmed at midnight with the lights turned off. Godzilla himself looks hideous and is noticeably CGI. The babies subplot is unbelievably stupid, yes somehow not as ridiculous as Matthew Broderick being painfully dorky and lame. There are so many baffling choices here that it barely even feels…

Not my Godzilla. Most probably his most ugly rendition. Thanks Matthew Broderick. And don’t piss me off with the last scene. #triggerwarning #rslur

Bad as a version of Godzilla adaptation, forgettable as a dinosaur movie and lame as a disaster movie.

Like shit out of Godzilla’s butt There was a really awkward mention of the World Trade Center in this one I was in the pit for the Madison Square Garden Godzilla bombing, and all I got was this lousy half-mug Thanks, Jackson

Crazy how even after Godzilla was confirmed to be a women, since she was pregnant and had kids, they kept calling her “He”. Also, P DIDDY JUMPSCARE!!!!

This is very… American. I have to say, this movie makes for a pretty intense and entertaining monster blockbuster. It’s just not Godzilla though. And it’s been said before, but what were they thinking with the redesign?? Even so, the film has its merits, which is why I still enjoyed it. Some of my quick thoughts: – Decent-ish special effects that hold up reasonably well for the 90s. We all know about the 90s CGI obsession, but I spotted some…

Hot take, I also liked this one. This is what would REALLY happen if Godzilla tried to attack a major location. Well, sort of. If a lizard somehow does mutate to be huge… he’s not gonna be somehow immune to full metal jackets, let alone goddamn MISSILES! Dude pieced up by apaches and died. Also liked the idea to lure him with fish lol.
- Synopsis
- French nuclear tests irradiate an iguana into a giant monster that viciously attacks freighter ships in the Pacific Ocean. A team of experts, including Niko Tatopoulos, conclude that the oversized reptile is the culprit. Before long, the giant lizard is loose in Manhattan as the US military races to destroy the monster before it reproduces and it's spawn takes over the world.
