If you could distill the essence of Mountain Dew, Axe Body Spray, and old Hasbro commercials of the 1980s, and then turn that essence into a movie, the result would be G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Also, as far as I’m concerned, putting molded lips on Snake Eyes’ mask is a way sillier choice than putting nipples on the Bat-suit. Why would you put lips on the mask of a guy who never talks?

Action!: The Campy, The Violent and The Plot Twist – Sommers’ Camp At the moment Baroness points out to a woman standing in a crystal door and tells her to run, looking back and telling her how good her shoes looked, that was the moment when I started to think how awesome will Sommers be as a director in an MCU movie. Seriously, why hasn’t Feige brought this man out of retirement. As for the movie itself, it was just as weird and overblown as I had been led to believe. It’s almost 120 minutes of extreme cheese, camp, and it’s very entertaining in many ways. This is one of the few films where Sommers did not write the screenplay,…

I don’t really have a strong opinion of this either way except that Snake Eyes with lips on his mask is actually nightmare fuel

really nails that action figure thing where the simplest shit in the world (good guys vs. bad guys) is the most convoluted shit requiring reams of flashbacks and breathless over-explanation. THE SCOTTISH ARMS DEALER IS SHOOTING NANOBOTS AT THE EIFFEL TOWER! JOES, ASSEMBLE!

Sosa’s Rewatch Thoughts on GI Joe The Rise of Cobra (2009) Very Good, 72 out of 100 I’m tired of being outcasted for thinking this shit is peak. 2009 was a banger year for me, so there’s some nostalgia influencing this scoring and rating. Even then, despite all of its flaws, I think Rise of Cobra could have been the start of a Transformers-level franchise. You know, big explosions, little plot, bad writing, and box office millions? The nanomites, the cgi, and the hot women going into combat with inappropriate attire. Just so 2009 coded. The thing that was truly TERRIBLE here (aside from the paper thin writing) was Tatum’s acting. Genuinely how did THAT scene make it to post-production??…

¿Cómo vas a estar feliz?

These were such important film during my childhood and my formative years G.I. Joe was up there with Transformers, Indiana Jones and Star Wars back then and I am really happy to say that this has aged a lot better than I expected🥳 This is such a maximalist movie that goes full throttle all the time and it takes itself super seriously (which I adore) Channing Tatum used to be my absolute favorite childhood actor and even though, in retrospect,…

The only thing I can say for this movie is when I was watching in the theater, my brother turns to me and says; “I might be wrong, but pretty sure, ice floats.”

Let’s categorise this as so bad, that it’s actually good. Like, it’s probably more fun than any of the Transformers movies with a fraction of the budget. It’s best to not overthink how they’re funding, staffing or hiding all this wild shit. Or how everyone is an expert level marksman, pilot & submariner all at once. Just sit down and let the ‘good guys always win’ of it all wash over you. My one big question is, was Dennis Quaid in the same room as anyone else that’s in this movie?

Never watched this one growing up. I don’t know if there’s a single redeeming quality in this movie. The script, story, directing, sound track, costumes and most of the performances are bad. I feel bad for GI Joe fans.

Recently I had been a little curious to give these films another day in court before finally checking out the Snake Eyes film, so I decided that would be my little afternoon project today, kicking off the revisit in the early afternoon. G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra came out in 2009, and I recall watching it with a certain degree of mixed feelings, due to my nostalgia for the cartoon and comic books of my youth. Realistically, my nostalgia…
