A bit below an average movie. The cinematography is good, but the film is very gray and not particularly colorful, which I’m not a big fan of since I usually prefer films where the colors really shine. The length is above average, and the pacing isn’t the best, with most of the film feeling quite slow, Not much happens during the first hour, as it mostly introduces the war, characters, and plot without anything particularly significant happening. I’m not a big fan of war films in general, and the war scenes here aren’t as engaging as you might hope. There aren’t many scenes that I found particularly interesting. The film has a big cast, but Jon Bernthal is extremely annoying…

If there’s anything original about this as a war drama, it’s that there’s nothing redemptive to be found. It’s as ostentatiously bleak as you’d expect, but it also discards trope themes like honor or noble sacrifice in favor of combat’s blunt, pragmatic brutality and finds (to my sick mind, anyway) a calm beauty in human cruelty and desire.

I really don’t know what to think of this. The acting was excellent, the cinematography was gorgeous, the atmosphere was foreboding and impeccable, and a breakfast scene is one of the finest moments in 2014. Yet, the rest is typical WWII fodder, with an overbearing score, cliche elements, a preachy script, and a soft ending bringing down the film as a whole. Basically, when all is said and done, It’s a solid war film, and while I was particularly impressed with the aura of disillusionment and foggy misery; the rest feels like leftovers from every “war is hell” film ever made.

The fact that I started seeing them as a family and then remembered this is a war movie is exactly what made this hurt so much. Loved the crew, the tanks.. (oh i love tanks so much), and the breakfast scene.

I think that Wardaddy is a character who is utterly broken by war but still fiercely protective of his crew. This is another movie that just gets better with time and you just appreciate how good it actually is, carried by the cast and the great chemistry between all of them is just what makes this work so well, you can feel everything that brotherhood means to them.

The film tackles several storylines at once and balances them really well. The anti-war tone reminds me a bit of All Quiet on the Western Front, and the action scenes are solid. The strongest part of the movie is seeing how soldiers with different mindsets cope while sharing a single tank in battle, which works so well thanks to the great performances from the entire “Fury” crew. The scene where the American soldiers interact with the enemy civilians is both beautiful and tragic. The ending is great, but I just wish they showed a little more at the end for better closure.
