The greatest meet cute in movie history is when Colonel Mortimer spots Monco in his spyglass looking back at him with binoculars, then later they shoot each other’s hats.

Because Kohli has been shooting a new TV series, we’ve had to wait a long time for the next installment in our Sergio Leone screening series, but picked up last night with FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE. I personally enjoyed this more than FISTFUL OF DOLLARS. Eastwood is as iconic as ever, but I particularly enjoyed Lee Van Cleef and Gian Maria Volontè’s performances. Van Cleef makes for a striking man in black, whose twinkling eyes hide a weary knowledge of Leone’s morally desolate landscape, and a pain that is only revealed in the final reel. Volonté’s grinning, laughing villain is equally haunted, and seems to have moments of regard where even he cannot believe the things he is doing,…

Lee Van Cleef was 40 years old when he made For a Few Dollars More, but he acts like he is a ghost doomed to wander through west for some 100 years.

This film has a lot of hat cruelty in it. Why do hats always have to be the victims?!

These movies get progressively better as Clint is surrounded by cooler, and cooler guys, in this case Colonel Mortimer, Indio, and Klaus Kinski as a hunchback.

First foray into Westerns and I love how stylised these are! The screen presence from damn near everyone in the cast was so impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed!

the american west is so unbelievably cool and romantic, it’s kinda ridiculous that europe was almost entirely industrialised and urbanised, and there are guys hunting people with revolvers because they broke the law

Another Seegio Leone banger. Was a bit better than the first in the Dollars trilogy in my opinion, in terms of pacing at least. But was fun and memorable nonetheless.

You’re putting up numbers like that but decided to steal from Yojimbo? Pacing a little slow at times and I feel like the spaghetti western ADR style hurts the performances, but what can you do

Another good Clint Eastwood movie but that’s about where the things I liked end. I’m sure in 1965 this movie was revolutionary but I just don’t see the same value in it 61 years later. Maybe I’ll rewatch it someday and think it’s cinema but that day isn’t soon

Yeah, that’s one of the best Westerns ever made. Lots of scuzzy dudes in this and Lee Van Cleef is effortlessly cool, while also able to say so much with just a look.

Clint Eastwood is never not smoking lmao. Probably one of the best openers in film history, and generally improving upon the best parts of the previous film. Direction, cinematography and score carried this thing, and elevated it way past what the story provided or even intended. Sadly the pacing was pretty off in some parts, causing this to drag A LOT, and nearly lost me a few times throughout. But still, I think I enjoyed this more than the first,…

I liked this more than Fistful of Dollars but in the second half it has some of the same problems and really meanders around at times. As a whole though I found the story and filmmaking to be more engaging. Loved the score.

For A few Dollars More offers a somewhat more complex story than its predecessor did but I can’t say that necessarily makes it the better film. If anything makes it superior to A Fistful Of Dollars, it’s the presence of Lee Van Cleef. Of the Man With No Name trilogy this middle installment is always the one I remember the least clearly and I enjoyed refreshing my memory of it’s quality. Still…the best is yet to come.

Clint Eastwoods introduction in this film makes this a certified banger
