It’s a shame the “Scream” franchise has already bled out everywhere but the box office, because Daniel Goldhaber’s similarly meta “Faces of Death” is sharp enough to have cut that self-cannibalizing shibboleth down to size on its own. Much uglier and more pointed than Paramount’s stab-happy ATM of a movie franchise, this similarly meta reflection on media consumption — on the “rules” of the game, and our detached relationship to ubiquitous scenes of violence — exhumes one of the most notorious horror movies ever made in order to shudder at the banality that snuff films have come to assume in the age of social media. Here is a smart, fun, and deeply unsettling post-modern slasher that know it can’t manufacture…

Incredible to see this with an audience after all these years. Most importantly finally got to show it to my mom and dad. Hope everyone enjoys it. Give the people what they want 🙂

i like that they referenced the original movie not only through the recreation of clips but also by showing pieces of the original movie. don’t fuck with cats reference! and charli xcx

I really thought I’d love this but it’s so two dimensional. Social media bad, influencers vapid, the public love blood and sex and spectacle, right chat?

Very interesting premise and good commentary on the voyeuristic nature of the internet, in particular the gore/disturbing film communities. I wish it leaned harder into how moderation employees are exploited by big companies and forced to watch unspeakable horrors for a wage that does not match the labour and how people get addicted to misery, instead of just becoming a crime thriller. Very cool shots, such as Arthur (our FOD remaker) being framed within vertical doorways similar to the Kino…

62 Fun movie overall but again dumb people doing dumb things. Why did the police officers not come inside, so stupid. It also loses steam too early into the movie imo. Dacre Montgomery was okay, he sometimes went into cringe territory and the Reading why he was doing all this stuff was also ridiculous.

I liked this more than I thought I would. I believe this is exactly how the police would behave in this situation and the credit song is bop fr.

Divertido se você desligar o cerebro. Bom pra ver com o namorado (a) enquanto riem de problemas de roteiro e tal. Deve ser horrível ver sozinho.

The most shocking thing about this film is honestly that we are now referring to FOD as a “franchise.”

An enjoyable 3/5

Faces of Death is surprisingly good. It’s smarter and more entertaining than I expected, somehow taking the Faces of Death concept and making it feel relevant again, especially in an era where disturbing content is only a click away.

I was not prepared for Dacre Montgomery’s fake voice and Patrick Bates-esque madness in this. Immaculate and truly spooky in this AI generation.

It was fine. Wouldn’t recommend. Kind of burning

A lean nasty horror thriller from Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber that doesn’t over stay its welcome and offers some cheap thrills. This film really benefits from the strong performances from its cast. Particularly Dacre Montgomery as the psycho path staging the kills as a tribute to the famous 80’s fake documentary. Barbie Ferreira also makes for a strong final girl.

I had been wanting to watch this for a while, so I was a bit disappointed in the end. I thought the first half worked as a solid B Movie. I liked the murder mystery element. The snuff films were giving off 8mm vibes. I thought its ideas on content moderation and the fascination with social media were cool. If not a bit half baked. Dacre Montgomery was also a very menacing villain. But the climax of this was a bit of a disappointment as it wades into familiar slasher territory with nonsensical decisions being made by its characters and then it just sort of ended.

really enjoyed this, loved how meta it was.

Was it perfect? No! Did I actively yell at the main lead? Yes! I was in it and I was annoyed and I enjoyed myself. I was rooting for our flawed fool of a final girl the whole time.

Second half was leagues better than the first, but ultimately this is forgettable and kinda boring

Our society is so fricking twisted

Fairly solid idea for a way to reboot that dreadful series of films. Dacre Montgomery plays a good psycho, and I like how they made this protagonist a content moderator for a fake TikTok. Felt bad for my friends at KinoLorber whenever a character would yell something like, “Kino is putting snuff films on the internet,” though.

Main character might be dumb as hell. She’s presumed to be crazy because the villain is smarter than her. Gets threatening text message from villain while a doctor is right next to her. Doesn’t show threatening message to doctor.

Dacre Montgomery plays the villain serial killer role SO WELLL and even though he was evil asf i was still extremely attracted to him in this performance which idk what that says about me but hey 🤷♀️

I like this conceptually, thematically, and stylistically, but it has a dumbass fucking script with shit dialogue and Barbie Ferreira is not a strong enough actress to make it work. Dacre Montgomery is really overdoing it, too. It’s pretty well-shot and the synthy score is dope. But ultimately the best parts are when no one is speaking. It’s an okay takedown of “content creation,” where I dig the message but not the execution. So to speak.

my mistake for thinking this was gonna be a cheap remake of the original faces of death, this was actually such a fun concept and i ended up enjoying it more than i thought it would. also dacre montgomery, i need you in more horror movies NOW

There was never a second where I wasn’t 100% entertained and sometimes that’s all I want or need. Have some quibbles with the script but Barbie and Dacre’s excellent performances (which are the biggest reason I was fully truly locked in) transcend my issues. What a ride!

I liked it overall. Barbie Ferreira’s facial expressions where getting to me though. Way to animated.

The 2026 Faces of Death understands that remaking the 1978 film beat for beat would miss the point. Daniel Goldhaber and Isa Mazzei use the original as a reference point rather than a blueprint. The film stays in conversation with Faces of Death while shifting its morbid curiosity toward content moderation, doomscrolling, desensitization, and the institutions that profit from keeping people engaged with increasingly disturbing material. It also gives weight to the psychological cost of having to watch that material…
