As much as I would’ve loved a Sly and Arnie combo movie in the 80s or 90s, it probably would’ve ended in a hot mess. Too many big egos, and not a single screen big enough to hold them. Someone would need to take a step back, and let the other actor be the lead. This happens in Escape Plan. Sly plays the lead, and Arnie is the sidekick. But, the ironic part? Arnie steals the show. Remembered thinking this one was not terrible when it came out but unfortunately not much going for it other than the kinda fun, off-brand, vaguely comedic Arnold performance and cool, sci-fi-ish prison production design. Stallone is pretty sleepy and nothing in here gets even close to touching the prison escape setpiece in Tango & Cash. Chad Stahelski was apparently involved in shooting some of this but there isn’t enough action to really tell.

My age compels me to give this film more stars than it deserves. My mental age ensures that I have absolutely no problems with that. Eighties induced nostalgia aside, Escape Plan is a very solid action film that actually works because of the two icons it brings together. Sure it’s all very silly and it can be shredded to bits with the greatest of ease, but then you’d be missing a fun ride. It’s not until the very end that our two legends get their action groove on. Schwarzenegger: A Rivalry of Muscular Proportions That ending on the beach was one of the most meta moments in cinema history, and one only those who know the history between these two actors will get and chuckle at. Filme ótimo para o gênero, a engenhosiedade nada forçada (que é o contrário do que se espera de um filme de fuga da prisão) é oque trás a qualidade ao filme; mesmo que falte aquele tempero de absolute cinema.

I have a thing for prison escape movies. This one though is one of the less interesting ones. Yet it‘s not an awful movie either. There were many very suspenseful moments. Also, the way it portrays Stallone and Arnold is so over the top at times, that i‘m somewhat respecting it.

Escape Plan doesn’t lack in action, which is definitely one of its strengths. The film delivers plenty of intense moments and has a solid cast that makes the prison escape concept entertaining to watch. Por incrível que pareça esse foi meu filme favorito por anos e me dei conta de que ele nunca teve um review, nem se quer uma avaliação digna. Contrário da maioria dos reviews, eu por ser um grandíssimo fã de filmes de ação, levei muito em consideração o plot do filme, que na época me deixou de cara. Dito isso, hoje, infelizmente ele deixa o meu top 5 filmes. Será lembrado para sempre!

Decided to watch this while scrolling the film selection of a streamer. Arnie and Stallone? Tick Vincent D’Onofrio? Tick Sam Neill as a prison doctor? Tick Vinnie Jones in his typical ‘muscle for hire’ role? Tick I wasn’t expecting much but I enjoyed this. Perfect Saturday night viewing. Solid action film with decent performances from everyone, including the murderess bassoon lady from Only Murders in the Building (I hadn’t seen her in anything else before). Also contains surely one of Arnie’s greatest lines – ‘You hit like a vegetarian’
