Worth it for this one scene where Daniel Craig looks like an Assassin’s Creed character

She walked in, said ‘absolutely not’, and thus the concept of girlbossing was born.

elizabeth: *slams tiny fist on table* i am the QUEEN of ENGLAND!!!!!!! me: she’s baby! cate is good, everything else is somehow simultaneously boring and ridiculous. i want more elizabeth and less random french dudes chatting.

Look, I’m not saying that if Daniel Craig was sent to assassinate me I’d let him do it, but I’m *not* not saying that. Goop stole Blanchett’s Oscar that year.

i fucking love cate blanchett. how did she not win an oscar for this this is a good film, but the fact that most of it isn’t true kinda makes me think… what was the point then. other than cate blanchett literally/fictionally being a queen

In place of a Duke of Norfolk you would have A QUEEN!!! Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the DAWN!! Treacherous as the SEA!! Stronger than the FOUNDATIONS OF THE EARTH!! All shall love me and DESPAIR.

Used to love this film but a little stale on review 🙁 worth a watch though if never seen.

I’m blown away by this film. Elizabeth walked so Conclave could run when it comes to cinematography and colour grading. This was a masterclass in performance, theatrics, score, production and costume design, cinematography, and colour grading. What the absolute hell were they on back in 1998 because this film could stand tall in today’s Oscar’s. The final scene was absolutely mind blowing, my pores rose when the end credits started rolling. I felt like I was actually there during her…

Not really historically accurate, but it is still fun to watch.

Cate Blanchett is electric as always and I love the costumes, sets, and score. It’s just not super engaging in any narrative or character form.

This is a movie of high highs and low lows. Cage Blanchett is simply divine. One of the most stupefying Oscar upsets of the modern era. The movie rests on her shoulders and you could dream of better. The entire cast is excellent actually and my goodness did the costume department rise to the challenge. You almost want to rewind scenes just to look at the garments longer. That said, the direction is a huge problem and so is the…

This unfortunately did very little for me, but Cate Blanchett is as good as ever here. You can just tell ‘oh yeah, there’s multiple Oscars in her future’ off of this performance alone, even if it’s a poster child for what Oscar bait had been in the 1990s.

Probably the best Cate Blanchett performance I’ve seen so far, she’s an absolute star in this. Also Vincent Cassel is hilarious and Daniel Craig is terrifying (and hot). The film itself is not exactly a masterpiece, but it’s definitely worth watching because of those three performances.

Do you think Elizabeth I had girl power? Do you think she effectively utilized girl power in 1582 when she approved a scorched earth campaign that starved 300,000 Irishmen?

queen elizabeth i was so kind… this was great but also just long (you can say that about many biographical films). i loved it though! a great interpretation of elizabeth’s rise to power and how she lowkey put her hair up in a messy bun, put on some gangsta rap, and #handledit all in all super cool and informative. only watched because i wanted to watch the tudors cuz natalie dormer is insanely hot as anne boleyn.

It plays liberally with the history behind Elizabeth I’s reign but it’s a highly entertaining character study; ruminating on the evolution of political leadership. While the plot can feel a bit disjointed at spots, the ensemble cast especially Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush make it a strong historical drama.

Nice costumes, but very standard as a period movie. Cate Blanchett was wonderful. The character going from a princess to that touch queen in the end. But a lot of other characters weren’t that interesting, the music was overbearing and things felt very little at stake. It was just fine.

First-time watch for me. It was pretty good. I suppose they changed a lot of historical details, but I was still pretty entertained. Good performance from Cate Blanchett. I can see why she was Oscar-nominated.

Elizabeth was a really interesting movie to watch, and I especially enjoyed Cate Blanchett’s performance. She brought a lot of personality to Elizabeth and made her feel like a real person rather than just a historical figure. I loved the visual style of the movie the dark colours, dramatic lighting, and detailed costumes gave it a very intense and almost gothic feel. The movie also did a good job showing how dangerous and complicated Elizabeth’s position was, with all the…

Enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would! How Cate Blanchett didn’t win anything for this is beyond me. Also loved the guy from Pirates in this too. Solid use of Nimrod at the end there too.
