As much of a wild historical fabrication as the first film, despite this, I have enjoyed both films a few times each. I mean which historical or biographical films do not just make it up for cinematic reasons? Definitely not as good as the first one but I still hankered for a third, but I guess not enough happened in the last ten years of her life. They could just have made something up though…

A worse movie than the first one, as sequels often tend to be. I think its an issue with writing. Nevertheless I enjoyed the movie extensively. The cinematography was good, but not as jaw dropping as in the one before. Cate Blanchett is of course marvelous. Well deserved oscar nomination. I have also found myself really fond of Eddies performance. I think it might have been a start of his career and a strong one at that. A top tier duology.

I don’t think this sequel reaches the same level as the first film, but I still had a great time watching it. Once again, Cate Blanchett completely owns the screen. She brings so much dignity, strength, and vulnerability to Elizabeth that it’s impossible to look away. The visuals are beautiful, the costumes are stunning, and while I preferred the first chapter, this is still a worthy continuation of her story. The scene where the Queen was arguing with Spanish Ambassador is worthy all the awards.

It’s truly amazing what $55m could buy you back in 2007. The movie looks absolutely incredible – from a production standpoint, it’s basically unimpeachable. Alas and forsooth, I never locked in with the political intrigue or the more intimate, “behind closed doors” material. I’m also just not interested in romanticizing or valorizing England’s rancid history. Golden Age literally contradicts itself in the first 10 seconds (“Spain has started a religious war all over the continent… and only ENGLAND stands against them!”) Picks up where Elizabeth left off, except gets rid of any shades of grey that movie had and just goes full-on jingoism. When I say there is beauty in films, this is exactly what I mean. Everything in this movie works beautifully together: the performances, the screenplay, the production design, the soundtrack, and the costumes. Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age have become some of the most enjoyable films I’ve ever watched, not only because of how visually and emotionally rich they are, but also because of how immersive they feel from start to finish. Cate Blanchett NEVER disappoints.

Had fun with this. I’m very susceptible to Cate Blanchette having a presence in things. This is definitely laughable in some ways and sanitized/biased in many more. Laughed at all the scenes where Philip II is a cartoon villain as well as the ones where Elizabeth is posing in the glow of angelic sunlight. I try mostly to look at it as existing in the same vein as Shakespeare historicals, and in that sense there are some pretty nice monologues…

(🏠). The movie is lacking a lot of what made the first movie such a great movie.however, I’m still glad they came back to make this movie. I do think some of the dislike for this movie comes from the fact that it’s inherently less fun than the first one but that’s a necessary part of the story.
