Another installment in the realm of D&D with Bruce Payne reprising his role as Damodar. This time around it’s a TV movie, and although somewhat uninspired, it still holds its own by tapping the pulse of a D&D game. Not driven by Hollywood gloss, but true in spirit of an actual game one would play over a few weekends with friends. Complete with cardboard cut out characters. Despite the fairly competent acting chops of all involved, and other than Clemency Burton-Hill’s character, the mage Melora, everyone else is relatively bland and generic. An amusing observation of the time that this was filmed (2005), the tipping point of trendy tribal tattoos, we have many characters with squiggly black lines painted on…

It’s very accurate to D&D and the barbarian woman can step on me. Unfortunately, that’s the nicest thing I can say about this movie.

LAVA BABY!!! It… it wasn’t terrible. I had a smile for a lot of the film, and not just from the booze and the edible. Some neat cgi monsters, which cgi bad enough in that specific early aughts way that doesn’t piss me off the way bad cgi usually does. Plus there was like a 2 second shot of a dude in a lizard costume with a giant lizard head that was a practical costume! I also liked the grand nagus staff, and that one dude’s butler who was making faces and being a werido in the background. No idea what the movie was about though.

“You cannot win.” I genuinely have no idea why people like this more than the original film. The only major positives I can find are that; 1. The dragon designs are outstanding and the CGI for them is actually a lot better than the first movie. 2. Bruce Payne reprises his role as Damodar and gets a more substantial role in the story as a main antagonist. None of the characters have anything close to a personality, let alone even marginal development, and the locations lack any sense of scale or majesty, often looking like they were merely shot in a local park and some empty warehouses for convenience. There are a couple brief references to gods and items from…

“We all have to die some time.” – Warrior Lady, This was pretty god awful to be honest. I enjoyed some of the effects in the sense that they were bad in a charming way but jeez the story is boring as hell and none of the actors have an ounce of charisma. The nerds deserve better.

I understand the hate for this one. From a perspective of critiquing this one as a film all the magic and D&D Easter Eggs seem telescoped and forced, which constantly pulls the viewer back and forth between this flowing epic fantasy adventure and some kind of jolting, oddly turn-based mess of themes which only the biggest nerds around understand. Plus, the epic adventure in itself has the plot of a simple home-brewed campaign. It all feels like it could be played through in a single game session or two if replicated for a Dungeons and Dragons adventure, which, for the uninitiated, makes a very short and likely simple adventure. Yet I can’t help but to find myself cheesing like a…

Following the disastrous movie from 2000, the Dungeons & Dragons IP got another chance at life in the form of a direct-to-video movie. Given this opportunity to wipe the slate clean, they weirdly chose to tether themselves to the failed version with Jeremy Irons by continuing a plot thread which didn’t even exist. Damodar, his loyal henchman with sparkly peppermint lips and poor CGI coming out of his ears, returns from the dead, having apparently been cursed by Profion to return for a sequel via contractual obligations as a completely different character. Now that he’s the head honcho of evildom, he enacts his master plan to… raise a zombie dragon that will once again force him into subservience. Great plan there,…

- Synopsis
- Due to a curse from his former master Profion, Damodar survived his death by Ridley Freeborn as an undead entity in pursuit of an evil artifact for some hundred years, so that he might be capable of unleashing unstoppable destruction on Izmir and the descendants of those who caused his demise.
