cinema has yet to top the “It’s All Over / And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” sequence and probably never will. everyone deserved Oscars for that scene alone

I

“Deena, you know why I chose you to sing lead? Because your voice has no personality.” I wish I had a voice with no personality like Beyoncé. 😂😂😂

this movie is a staple for black culture and the transformation between all three members from beginning to end is nothing short of stellar.

Huuuuuge nostalgia kick for me. I hardly remember so much of my childhood but I DO remember watching this in the theater as a child in Japan with my caramel popcorn and being entranced and immediately looking for the sound track. This was my Wicked I think. I mean Who could blame a girl…. Even just the outfits have the pizzaz I want, and they did NOT hold back on color.

Sometimes finding your voice means finally realizing you don’t need anyone’s permission to use it. There’s something so powerful about watching women fight to be heard in a world that keeps deciding how much space they’re allowed to take. 🎤 Special mention: Jennifer Hudson absolutely owns “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” — that performance is basically an emotional explosion. And Beyoncé’s “Listen” is the perfect reminder that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is stop waiting for someone else to hear you and start listening to yourself.

I absolutely love this movie! 🥲.

The killer soundtrack, Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy’s performances, the amazing costume design, are all the real stars of this movie! After Jennifer Hudson’s iconic delivery of “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going”, the movie struggles with pacing and drags during certain parts in the second half. But it’s still a classic, even as someone who doesn’t usually enjoy musicals.

A classic! Takes me right back to high school. Eddie was robbed, Jennifer sang from her GUT, and both versions of “Cadillac Car” have been engrained in my brain for some reason since this first came out.

Is this how the rest of Destiny’s Child felt? Fr though Effie may be a diva but I would too be that dramatic and petty, like she earnt that high horse

Turn the wigs around! Anika, Jennifer, and Beyoncé were wonderful as a trio. I always love seeing Donny Glover act his ass off. God, I would do anything to see the ‘80s Broadway production of this.

Incredible singing (obviously), stage production, and costumes, but wished for tighter pacing at times. Glad to have finally watched this!

Loved the hell out of it. Great story, amazing performances (Eddie should’ve gotten that Oscar), fabulous music sequences. The fastest two hours I’ve experienced in a while. And I’m not really a musical guy. Also, Beyonce should’ve done more movie work. Could’ve achieved great things.

Sooo good omg Jennifer Hudson put her all into this not to mention Eddie Murphy playing his part perfectly wow. From the outfit choices down to the way they showed how music progressed through time, this movie did great.

If you think about it this is just a beyonce discography

Although a dick move in the film for the betrayal aspect, real life has proven it’s a smart business choice to make Beyoncé the lead of your worldwide hit musical girl group. Also I feel bad that the only version of ‘One Night Only’ I knew beforehand was Curtis’s party bop version and not Jennifer Hudson’s insanely good solo version. Honestly insane how in her first proper film appearance she’s on par and even surpasses Beyoncé, especially with that rendition…

Like, I get that Deena isn’t as “dramatic” a role as Effie, but man looking back on the awards cycle for this film Beyoncé really got robbed. We all know J.Hud deserved her flowers for this, no question about that, but B didn’t come to play, either! Oh and Eddie Murphy, too! And coung on Anika to squeeze every bit of good acting out of a pretty one dimensional role. At the SAME time, WHO thought it was a good…

The BEST musical ever. It’s so beautiful, soundtrack is amazing, cast is stacked and acting like their rent was dueee! I feel so passionate about this masterpiece. I was right to love this film at 5

It’s a fun watch. The pacing is a little off and the story itself doesn’t get much time to flesh out, and right when it’s about to, there’s another song and another timeskip with it. Jennifer Hudson isn’t bad, but I wasn’t overly impressed by her other than her singing. Loved her performances of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “I am Changing” but I don’t think she needed an Oscar for them even if she does…

Beautiful movie with beautiful vocals. I really enjoyed this musical, and Jennifer Hudson’s vocals brought me to tears. Literally. I did however take a star away because I didn’t like the whole not blurting out the pregnancy, etc and the mistreatment of the women in the movie. However the movie was really good besides little scenes

I literally laughed when the white boy who can’t sing for shit tried to sing the same song donkey, Beyoncé, princess tiana, a judge of the voice, and electro wrote

It’s wild that Eddie Murphy didn’t do anything *like this* again. Because other than the OBVIOUS show stoppers Bey and Jennifer, he is a show stealer. Very funny that we popped off two Eddie Murphy and two John Lithgow movies in a day, even funnier that one was this movie and the other was Shrek. Lol.

I am not a big fan of Beyoncé but Jennifer Hudson is incredible in this movie. Her performance is easily the highlight for me and she brings so much emotion and power to the character. The music is amazing and the performances are really strong throughout the movie. I also liked the costumes and the whole 60s and 70s atmosphere. The story about fame, ambition and friendship is really interesting and the movie does a great job showing how success can change people. Jennifer Hudson completely steals the show.
