Crackling fire in the fireplace. The soft glow, cast off by the lights in the Christmas tree. The smell of pine trees. The nostalgic ambiance created by Christmas decorations. The promise of a scrumptious and indulgent Christmas dinner. Watching Bruce Willis violently kill people on a lazy afternoon.

This movie really made me think a lot about how movies really shouldn’t have to make you think a lot. This is one of those that proves you really don’t have to say SHIT to make an entertaining film. The editing, camerawork, performances, and direction are all on the same page with what they wanted this movie to be. Nice way to start the day. Merry xmas

A simple fact: action movies have been neutered, half-baked, half-written and served cold for children with Attention Deficit Disorder. Die Hard has aged into a lost art. It has a wholly original, unpredictable screenplay, crisp with sharp dialogue matched with badass line delivery through the mouths of believable human characters (This sentence alone cannot be attributed to a single modern action film). There is a tight plot that gradually escalates, accumulating ZERO gaps in logic equaling to not a single moment of frustration for the viewer. If that wasn’t enough, there is a seamless camera. The lighting is impeccable. The editing is celestial. The Christmas theme ingenious. The music is thunderous joy. The pacing is a genre blueprint. The f/x…

Die Hard is the film equivalent of how ancient Roman cement structures still stand 2000 years later but modern concrete dissolves within two generations.

by the end of the reagan years america was primed for an action movie that ends on a grace note of “LAPD cop haunted by the time he shot an unarmed teen finally learns to kill again”

The difference between an American Christmas and a European one is that the former involves a lot more gunfighting.

All because good hearted black man trusted some faceless white cop. As Jake Peralta says “it’s the best cop movie in the world”

This is an exceptionally well-crafted film. The performances by the actors are outstanding, and the storyline is engaging. It features a perfect blend of drama, thrilling fight sequences, and memorable one-liners. It is a Christmas movie because it takes place during Christmas.

Sadly, ACAB includes Sergeant Al Powell. 🙁 I don’t make the rules.

Got fully McClane’d by the end, i get it now Jake Peralta. Bruce Willis is such a badass throughout. Doesn’t matter that it’s been decades, the action still holds up. But can we talk about Hans Gruber for a second ?? Very snape energy 😭 Anyways B99 did me a solid recommending this over whatever was on my whatchlist. Solid action flick.

Clear, concise, moving action and dialogue keeps this movie in the halls of forever. I saw this initially on TNT or something on cable and the violence was completely gutted. But, I do remember reaching for a re-watch years later on DVD. It just rips AND tells a simple enough story. The action genre has never fully recovered. That’s probably okay.

Not a Christmas movie
- 剧情简介
- NYPD cop John McClane's plan to reconcile with his estranged wife is thrown for a serious loop when, minutes after he arrives at her office's Christmas Party, the entire building is overtaken by a group of terrorists. With little help from the LAPD, wisecracking McClane sets out to single-handedly rescue the hostages and bring the bad guys down.
