Zeus: Why you keep calling me Jesús? I look Puerto Rican to you? John McClane: Guy back there called you Jesús. Zeus: He didn’t say Jesús. He said, “Hey, Zeus!” My name is Zeus. John McClane: Zeus? Zeus: Yeah, Zeus! As in, father of Apollo? Mt. Olympus? Don’t fuck with me or I’ll shove a lightning bolt up your ass? Zeus! You got a problem with that? The chemistry between Sam and Bruce is electric! Lightening in a bottle the kinda you just don’t see anymore. Definitely my fav die-hard movie. Dare I even say I prefer it to Lethal Weapon and 48 Hours? Maybe a hot take as the kids would say.

As stylish, funny, outlandish, and engaging as mainstream ‘90s action gets. An all-time personal favorite, with McTiernan playing every shot in his bag—kinetic cross-cutting action sequences, handheld footchase scenes, bonkers car chases, flooding tunnels, subway station explosions, flying crane shots, helicopter shootouts, Jeremy Irons wearing a sleeveless skintight tee like an All That Jazz extra for some reason, all shot on location across NYC, and leavened with Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson at their very best with dueling Areyoufuckinkiddinme? energies. This is actually the movie that invented the Mission:Impossible movie franchise—the pace, the ludicrously staged riddle missions, the overqualified actors populating the team, the vague sense of irony just around the edge of the storytelling. Top shelf Hollywood bullshit.

I loved this movie so much when I was a kid because a key part of the plot takes place at the 72nd st 2,3 station, right by the Gray’s Papaya and Sleepy’s mattress store on Broadway, and I was such a fucking nerd that I was proud to tell people “there’s not actually a pay phone there.” Also the thought of driving a car through Central Park was the coolest thing ever to me. Upon rewatch I noticed another action scene takes place on that treacherous stretch of the Taconic, where it’s a long curve with no clearance and a rock wall on your right. This movie touches the real life locations that have formed the texture of my…

New York as a character (the ny of my childhood), gray’s papaya, Hillary and Trump both getting name dropped, old Yankee Stadium, Chester A. Arther, 10 quarters, Nova Scotia, violence that looks like it hurts, the federal reserve, badge #6991, Harlem, dump trucks, and holy smokes I never noticed both Willis and Jackson have the same hairline (and career hairline trajectory). Anyways, despite losing some momentumafter the riddles end, this still manages to rip after all these years with its numerous set pieces, memorable score, awesome chemistry from the entire cast, and the uncanny ability to bring me back to a very specific time and place—New York, 1995.

Fill the 3 gallon jug. Pour those 3 gallons into the 5 gallon jug. Fill up the 3 gallon jug again. Fill the 5 gallon to the top from the 3 gallon, leaving one gallon of water in the 3 gallon jug. Empty the 5 gallon jug. Pour the remaining 1 gallon (from the 3 gallon jug) into it. Fill the 3 gallon again, add that to the 5 gallon jug. Bingo, 4 gallons of water in the 5 gallon jug. Thing is, that’s not how they do it in the movie, so it’s confusing.

When Die Hard With A Vengeance was first released, Empire gave it 5 stars. I was a bit incredulous about this when I read it because it seemed impossible to me that a second sequel to an action film where the first sequel had already been crapped on in most quarters would be THAT good. And then this happened:- “Hot town, summer in the city Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty….” BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. I mean, that’s how you start a fucking film! This film had my attention and then held it for the whole of the rest of the two hours. Clearly, the return of John McTiernan to the franchise is exactly what it needed after Renny Harlin’s lacklustre…

i love this movie (although it is 20 minutes too long) but also fuck this movie for trying to slam a working-class black new yorker as the real racist because he doesn’t trust white cops.

Seeing John McClane on the job in front of the Gray’s Papaya on 72nd St fills me with such joy

McTiernan comes home, Jeremy Irons brings real menace, and Willis-Jackson chemistry turns New York into the best playground since Nakatomi Plaza.

This is just n absolute blast. No longer restricted to just one setting, John McLane has the sandbox of Manhattan to foil terrorist efforts. The link to Die Hard 1 (alongside the OG director) returning is welcome and lets face it we could watch Bruce and Samuel L all day!

The first 2 are basically single location – I love how all of New York is in the mix this time, however it gets a little long in the tooth when we go to the Catskills and Nova Scotia… Willis and Jackson are great together.

Watching this movie, it made me realize the similarities between Die Hard and Police Story. Both were legendary balls-to-the-wall cop action movies that fills you with adrenaline rush. Both movies transformed Jackie Chan and Bruce Willis into global icons. And both franchises have a popular third movie where their co-star outshined them with both Michelle Yeoh and Samuel L. Jackson. It is not as good as the first one and I would say it dragged on for too long. But,…

10/10 Finally found a whole Action Trilogy that is great. Definitely comes back from a dip in the second part as this almost equals first part but in truth I love the whole Trilogy itself and I rate all 10/10 as a perfect Trilogy. Finding an good triology is surely tough. Lastly the things that I loved were the matrix and the before triology. I can happily watch this full day on the Christmas. These go straight into my favourite list. Samuel Jackson was really a nice addition.

This felt refreshing from Die Hard 2. The action and buddy cop dynamic between Zeus and John were elite. Simon was an amazing villian

“I see your slutty little tank top, and raise you MY slutty little tank top.” – Jeremy Irons, probably.

Improvement from the second Its nice to see that Die Hard With a Vengeance is a clear improvement from Die Hard 2. While the plot can be a bit goofy at times, its not as over the top dumb as the second movie. The performance of Samuel L. Jackson is also a highlight for me.
