Rotten Tomatoes: 75% Metacritic Metascore: 59 IMDB: 7.3 88/100 Spooktober 2025 Televangelist: “When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.” Zack Snyder’s feature debut reimagines Romero’s classic and somehow justifies its existence. This isn’t a shot-for-shot remake—it’s a balls-to-the-wall action-horror sprint that trades social commentary for relentless intensity and actually works on its own terms. The controversial fast zombies sparked debate, but they create genuine terror that the shambling undead can’t match anymore. Bold, brutal, and surprisingly emotional. Snyder directs with kinetic visual flair that would define his career —a stunning opening credits sequence set to Johnny Cash remains iconic. James Gunn’s screenplay balances horror with dark humor and develops characters you actually care…

Tag yourself: I’m that idiot girl who’s like, “Fuck the zombies, I’m going after Chips the dog.”

Mean, antic, messy, cheeky, and hopeless. In many ways the opposite of the stately, painterly efforts at adrenalized, masculine fauxetry that would become Snyder’s hallmark. Hard not to think of how different and perhaps better his work would have been if he could have retained James Gunn, with all his body horror and slapstick impulses, as his screenwriter through the DC films. This is a plain ole good zombie movie, and that isn’t easy.

Carnage and futility— some of Snyder’s strongest work, really impressed by how well this still holds up.

ahhhh the good old days when Zack Snyder was still sane and still hasn’t discovered those masterfully atrocious Canon Dream Lenses.

Snyder gets a lot of shit for his needle drops (usually deserved) but that Richard Cheese one is still incredible
