Spongebob is in this so much that he should be considered a supporting character. He’s either shown or referenced on at least 20 different occasions. One of them is the CLIMAX OF THE MOVIE, when it’s dead quiet and the mom is trying to calm her kid down by holding him close, slowly leaning up to him and humming: 🎶 who lives in a pineapple under the sea 🎶 And you expect me not to laugh my ass off?? Come on man, of all the things you shouldn’t do during a dead quiet horror sequence.

I really enjoyed this one! Yes, it’s obviously going to be heavily compared to The Babadook because that movie features a monster created out of grief and depression and this movie features a monster created out of loneliness and yes those are similar themes, but I mean, isn’t that really what monsters are? Manifested negative emotions? Anyone familiar with Shawn Coss? He’s a brilliant and beautiful damaged soul and that’s literally what his art is all about. I read matt lynch’s review where he says the monster is the child’s autism manifested and attacking everyone and it’s not the first time I’ve read something that made me think he’s a complete idiot, but wow did that really nail it home for me. Like…

I spent more than half of the film agonizingly asking which series I konw the mother from And then the torment is suddenly over, a flash of inspiration flows through my body and I see the answer crystal clear in front of me. And in a voice soaked with endorphins I shout loudly across the room: Scrubs!

A surprisingly decent story with a cool ass monster design for Larry. I find most horror films to be fun but dumb. But I found this one to be respectable. Unfortunately not what I would call “fun” but I still ofc enjoyed it. Some pretty bad parents. The dad looks like NakeyJakey lol.

Am I nuts or is this about how the kid’s autism is a jealous, violent monster that traps his family? Yuck.

Im supposed to be scared of a dude named Larry? Doesnt help he’s a Babadook wannabe

I honestly really liked this. It was cheesy, but the overall message of being lonely due to technology was spot on.

From my point of view, this film has both positive and negative sides. On one hand, I really love Larry’s terrifying appearance and his drawings. Besides, the motivation behind Larry’s existence fascinated me, because it criticizes a current reality. On the other hand, apart from the end of the film, which I found surprising, it was quite boring. Additionally, I couldn’t identify with anyone.

LARRY JUST WANTED TO WATCH SPONGEBOB!

Getting familiar with Jacob Chase’s work before the new Insidious, which he directed and is getting pretty decent reviews. I thought this was just fine! Nothing spectacular, but has effective scares, decent performances (even from the child actors), and I was touched by the ending. Pretty solid spooky story with a relevant theme and message.

Seeing as the movie is all about the ups and downs of family life, Come Play is made with parents and children in mind. It’s not exactly a fangless gateway horror, though, since a few sequences boast imagery far too intense for the younger crowd.

I’d be a lot more ticked off at this I Am Autism ‘let’s literally demonize disability aid’-ahh mess if it wasn’t impossible to take seriously. SpongeBob SquarePants has more screentime than the actual horror monster in this horror movie. The only thing that really got my gander up with this was having to sit through yet another piece of media made for screens telling me how bad screens are. I truly wish these people would just write a damn book already.

Man, they sure do play a LOT of SpongeBob clips in this film, don’t they? I mean, I get why, but still, I certainly wasn’t expecting it from a film like this of all places. Who knows, maybe the amount of SpongeBob clips that they play is actually symbolic for something… Larry isn’t actually the bad guy, it was that damn sponge the whole time! For those of you who aren’t part of the cinematic grapevine, then let me be…

Amazing movie would be awesome if there was a part two of this where oliver is older and the same problem starts again. Maybe there should also be some sort of hints or dialogue on Larry like if he was once a human who had experienced the same thing or if he was always a lonely monster.

I think The Babadook is incredibly overrated, so I’m not surprised I liked this one more. A competent horror story, quite unsettling and scary for a PG-13 film. Plus, Gillian Jacobs is always a bonus.

Lights Out meets Babadook, but with more childhood bullies…and some of the dumbest adults ever put on the screen. “Oliver, how did you blow out all these lights?!” I dont know, lady. How would ANYONE? 10 lights dont just explode in a room cuz a kid is feeling mischievous!! And the emotional payoff at the end is just non-existent. If we’re supposed to believe that the mom deserved to sacrifice herself since she struggled with being as supportive as she…

I think this was rather charming which is an odd thing to say for a horror movie. It’s very evident to those in the know that either the director, writer, or producer has a child with Autism and knows some of the finer details. (Yes, this includes the negative aspects and metaphor of Oliver’s autism being the monster.) I did not care for the hamfisted anti-technology rant near the climax and Larry’s design looked better in the artwork and the shadows than it did when it was clear.

Honestly a decent horror movie. The monsters was shown just enough to get you hooked up, but the SpongeBob vibes were a bit weird. Other than that, I’d say it was fun.

Legitimately creepy. Yes, it reminds of The Babadook, but is that a bad thing?

This was silly but good, a couple of good jump scares and a pretty creepy creature they waited long enough to show that it wasn’t super tacky. Only mildly offensive and kinda corny dialogue. Overall a really good B horror
