“It’s about moments, man. That’s all that matters.” Much has been said already about the film’s expert handling of post-9/11 anxieties. The way it lingers on people standing still in the wake of disaster, shocked & aimless, looking around, taking cellphone pictures as they try and comprehend an event they’ll never fully understand; as reflected in Reeves’ filmmaking, they’ll never have anything more than a few, brief pieces of information sans context. But the thing that’s managed to stick with me about this film many years later is its fleeting optimism. The most brilliant gesture Reeves & Goddard make here is the choice to have the footage of that terrifying day recorded over top of a tape that documents a joyful & intimate…

Holy moly watching this makes you feel helpless af the lore and shit behind this movie is so peak I always love when movies don’t explain everything and you gotta do digging, also the cinematic moments even for a found footage film is insane the head of Statue of Liberty flying into DOWNTOWN NEWYORK. The screams, monster roars and military in the background while the characters are figuring wtf is happening also the fact you don’t really know what’s attacking till the end is so just peak Top 5 movie aot

As a kid, I thought this movie was the coolest/scariest shit ever. As an adult with a whole little family of his own, this movie is nothing but pure anxiety and depression. As everything started going downhill, I felt the need to shed tears for these characters whose short lived lives are taken away in just a span of six hours by one of the worst situations to ever be placed in. A cramped city with a crawling outbreak of…

I really wish this movie was cool. Unfortunately it totally shoots itself in the foot by making the whole thing found footage. Even on a logic standpoint, it’s bad, but even worse, it takes what could be a captivating tense experience into a dizzying movie. Should’ve done better, I was shocked to see Matt Reeves name attached to this.

A kaiju found footage movie really is just a spectacular idea. The fact that we barely see the monster and when we do its just parts of its body smashing into things is very cool. The style really elevates what could be a very by the books creature feature in a lot of creative ways. Reminds me a lot of a video game in both good and not so good ways.

This is one of those movies where the characters really only exist to propell the movie forward. The two closest things to leads are Hud, who is played pretty unlikable by TJ Miller and is the one filming the events of the movie; then we have Rob played by Michael Stahl-David who does a good enough job with a pretty 2-Dimensional character. I tried this one especially because it’s categorized as found footage. And yes, almost the entire movie is recorded through a single camera. Visually, I think it works really well. The cinematography is great, the atmosphere of chaos in a huge city feels convincing, and I have no real complaints about the acting. My problems are mostly with the script. 1. The camera: The whole movie is recorded because one guy was supposed to film farewell messages for a friend…

Every single creative choice during the opening party makes the found-footage premise work, they don’t feel like actors in a script, just real people who have no clue they’re about to wander into a monster movie. Then BAM, Lady Liberty’s head comes flying down the street and immediately shows you what you’re in for.The sound design is unreal, the rumbling footsteps are a huge stand out and the frantic camerawork sets an insanely high bar for the entire genre. Loved how it uses those quiet, lingering moments to build up a shred of hope, only to strip it all away right at the end.

Do I hate found footage? Maybe not before but now I do. These people have not an ounce of survival instinct and I refuse to believe New Yorkers are like that. Whyyyyy are they still following Rob fuck that guy, and while I’m at it fuck Hud too. Super cool premise and monster design. Disappointing because I love the other Cloverfields.

I didn’t enjoy this as much as I wanted to, but I also wouldn’t say that I hated it. There were definitely some parts that I thought were interesting and well done, but overall the film just didn’t fully keep me interested. One thing I did like was the found footage style. At first, I thought it made the film feel more realistic because everything is shown from the characters point of view. It makes the destruction and panic feel…

I heard a theory that Clover Field had a connection to The End Of Oak Street that came out this year. That had me thinking, of how cool it would’ve been being sent back 65 million years ago, AND there’s a kaiju the characters had to survive. I love how 95% of Hud’s dialogue is just ROB!

People running away the movie. Really enjoyed watching this film Such a time capsule to look back with all the late 2000s tech and fashion. CG is great for the tame, maybe could have seen a bit less of the monster. Could have cut a few running away scenes. The only thing I can knock it on is that I waited 18 years to watch it and if I had watched it back then, I wouldn’t have already seen a few things like it. But that’s not the movies fault.

Just a solid found footage monster movie, I think all the monster scenes are pretty horrific, the only thing holding the movie back is TJ Miller having most of the dialogue, I enjoyed pretty much all the characters except for him.

OK, I actually liked this one! I was tense and anxious almost the entire time aside from the first 15 minutes where they lulled us into a sense of complacency But overall, a insane and maybe even slightly realistic early 2000s survival horror film

2028 I hear you and I see you but if we don’t get Cloverfield 20th Anniversary in IMAX it’s gonna be a problem. I fear it’d be one for the fucking ages. There’s one specific shot near the end that I’m certain would kill me right there in my seat. Reeves made so many clever decisions here. All in on the shitty cgi. Hits the gas and doesn’t stop. Thing is barely over an hour and loaded with intense set pieces. Annoying characters that add to the chaos rather than detract from it. Visceral and frantic. Yeah I’m there!

Matt reaves you do not disappoint wow I absolute LOVE films when we get the characters POV for the whole movie, judging that this is a monster film and I do love these type of plots/films I was instantly hooked. Yes it starts off slow with the main characters having a normal day celebrating their friend leaving to Japan for a new job, but once the monster enters the city destroying everything in their path it starts to pick up…

Eu abomino o found footage.

Cloverfield is one of those movies I can appreciate far more than I can actually love. It lives in a genre that has never really been my natural habitat. Found footage, creature features, shaky handheld cameras and the whole “you are there while everything goes to hell” approach aren’t usually what I reach for when I want to disappear into a film. I tend to gravitate toward something darker, stranger and more psychologically rotten the kind of horror that crawls…
