Any contractor working on that Death Star knew the risk involved. If they got killed, it’s their own fault.

Any time I’ve revisited a Kevin Smith movie it’s been a dire experience, so I was anxious about checking in on this for the first time in over a decade. But y’know what? I still really think you gotta hand it to him for this one. There are scenes and jokes that don’t hold up. If you know the movie, you know which ones they are. But it also has a lot of very funny stuff, like Randal fucking around with his customers, and that iconic Death Star conversation. It’s full of characters and details that could only come from someone who really worked in retail, and the one-long-day structure gives all these vignettes a compelling shape. Randal is a…

I thought Randal Graves was the coolest character in all of fiction when I was 14 and that’s a mark I’ll bear for the rest of my days

Like watching bad improv where the punchlines are either non-existent or forced edge-lord try-hard stuff. The dialogue is so cringe and the characters are uninteresting. Now, as a study on the shallowness of early 90s youth, it does kind of work. But they’re trying to be funny and like 95% of the jokes didn’t land for me. There are maybe two observational bits that work. And the brief interjections of pseudo-intellectualism don’t help its cause. I couldn’t wait to get away from these characters. Soundtrack is great.

My third favorite Kevin Smith film, and probably the most widely known. What he accomplished with a one camera set up and a cast of essentially his friends doing him a favor is impressive as hell. Reminds me of films I made in college, in the best way possible. Giving yourself a role where you have an excuse to be omnipresent but speak no lines is still a great and specific directorial choice. If this is the movie film bros quote, you know they don’t know the deeper lore, but it’s not a red flag.

Pretty unique and makes you just wanna go out there and shoot. Simple premise, great, snappy dialogue. The a story with the current and ex girlfriend is great. Especially in how it manifests in the protagonist: he’s not only moaning and complaining about it, but it’s as if his actions were a direct reflection of what he’s feeling due to his love life. Even when they don’t nevessarily relate to the relaitonship. That’s a great way to explore character, especially…

this film is all about the dialogue for me. the characters feel real. the conversations get weird, but some stuff (the death star conversation) is definitely something I’d talk about. I don’t like how some versions include the animate “lost scene”, it’s funnier when it’s a mystery. This film holds a special place in my heart though. I’m glad it exists

At the beginning I was a little apprehensive about the movie but the further I got in, the more I realized I was really enjoying it. Very dialogue heavy but in a good way.

The second half was much better than first. I liked any scene where Dante and Randal were just bullshitting together. I didn’t care much for Veronica.

Can really never look at this the same since that Legend of Korra dub came out.

“I’m offering you my body and you’re offering me semantics.” I love Randal. He’s a cool dude. Can’t believe I only watched this film at 32 years old. This script is honestly so good. So smart and funny.

I honestly didn’t expect all that from this movie. The characters are all so interesting, the conversations are insane, the situations are all insane, and I honestly just love how it’s a level of absurdity both absurd and absurdly real. Honestly probbaly a top 10 for me, at least top 20.

I always forget how great this movie is. Not the acting lol… no offense to the actors they got for the movie, im aware how cheaply it was made. But you can tell when theyre just reciting lines lol But who cares!!! Its such a relatable movie, for anyone who just feels stuck in life. Plus the soundtrack is so fucking awesome, ‘got me wrong’ ‘shooting star’ and ‘leaders and followers’ sooo good!

It’s a show in spirit, and a movie in reality, the writting’s great really captures the idle chit-chat of co-workers on a dead-end job, it’s interesting as not many movies I know of have captured the same niche as this film has.

“You know, there’s a million fine lookin women in the world, dude. But they don’t all bring you lasagna at work. Most of ‘em just cheat on you” I am a BIG fan of Kevin Smith. Coincidentally, I have not seen this movie before today, I actually watched Clerks 2 before the original. It was exactly what I thought it’d be in every way imaginable. No one can make movies the way he does. Same dude that made Tusk, by the way.

(8.6) A Linklater and Tarantino cross-breed inspiration that birthed what is now a quintessential slacker comedy. We get the spark from Slacker with the dialogue from Reservoir Dogs, and it couldn’t gel more seamlessly. We get a perfect representation of what I assume would be thought up, if those two created a flick together: Caitlin appearing from miles away to, within minutes of meeting her, unknowingly have sex with a masturbatory dead guy in a convenience store bathroom. I got…

A colleague of mine told me this was a good stoner movie, so it seemed appropriate to watch and log it as my 420th film on this site. I actually enjoyed this quite a bit, it’s stupid and doesn’t really have a point, but similar to something The Big Lebowski or La Haine, it feels deliberately pointless in best way possible. It’s just a dumb low stakes story with great characters and some of the best banter I’ve heard in any movie I’ve seen.

This perfectly captured the retail experience (besides the necrophilia)

Clerks feels like a photograph taken with a cheap disposable camera the kind where the colours are slightly fucked, the edges are blurry, and somehow that makes the memory feel more real. Watching it as a teenager in the ’90s was like being handed a glimpse into adulthood before you were remotely ready for it. There was something strangely comforting about seeing Dante and Randal standing behind that counter, surrounded by cigarettes, bad attitudes, cheap coffee and customers who seemed…
- 剧情简介
- Convenience and video store clerks Dante and Randal are sharp-witted, potty-mouthed and bored out of their minds. So in between needling customers, the counter jockeys play hockey on the roof, visit a funeral home and deal with their love lives.
