i know nothing about marvel so here is a guest review from my frat kid brother home from college for spring break: “captain marvel was dope. brie larson was great. um, i dunno! it was good! i don’t know what to say. brie larson was really good. uh, yeah. i’d give it 3 1/2 stars and a rotten tomatoes score of 82%. when this movie came out i didn’t like the movie mostly because i was a contrarian and misogynistic. seeing this years later it’s not bad. it talks about new topics and themes that weren’t covered in previous marvel movies. yes she’s very bold, headstrong, and confident which is hard to watch. but i also liked korra from avatar at this time so im not sure what i was on lmao themes: identity, refugee crisis, consequences and rules of war, emotional manipulation

Not as bland as I remembered it, but still bottom-tier Marvel. The movie just never finds its own identity. It’s starts heavily visually inspired as Guardians of the Galaxy space adventure without ever committing to the fun of these movies and then suddenly changes into a kind of this down to earth almost Captain America like detective story, without developing an interesting character, all resolving in a goofy and over powered third act. There are some nice elements in place with the jung Fury and the Skrulls, but overall it’s just a disappointmet.
