If you’ve seen The Iron Giant, The Water Horse, How to Train Your Dragon, ET: The Extraterrestrial, or any other variation on the “kid befriends beast” premise, you’ve seen this movie pretty much beat-for-beat. But yet, Bumblebee works. And bizarrely, the movie doesn’t work *despite* its familiarity and cliches and simple plot-structure; it works *because* of it. The only word you can use to describe a film like this is “charming”, because that’s what it is. Hailee Steinfeld is charming, Bumblebee is charming, the 80s are charming, and the humor is charming. It’s just a pleasant, heartfelt, sweet movie, even if it’s not revolutionary. Not everything has to be. Nuff said.

hard to believe that john cena is going to get *two* nominations for Best Supporting Actor this year but you can’t argue with the facts (he’ll win for BLOCKERS, of course, assuming that Hugh Grant continues to get snubbed). convincing proof that every single movie franchise — no matter how miserable — can be redeemed by firing Michael Bay and moving to the 1980s. when the shapeshifting alien robot learns to love the Smiths… i felt that.

This is my favorite transformers movie. Human characters were not annoying, I really liked Charlie, and even the romance subplot with her and that guy, I really like how they did it. I mean, they didn’t even kiss and this is why I like it. I’m ready to rewatch this movie just for the opening scene with Cybertron, it was so cool, transformers design, I like it way more than the Bayverse’. You had to be here to hear me screaming when I saw Soundwave and Shockwave like DAAAAMN

Bees action scenes were fabby but I kept thinking that the the timelines didn’t make sense bc in the first movie we see Optimus arrive with no form and choose the truck which all happens around meeting Sam but in this he’s met up Optimus before Sam as well as being a Chevy ( i think ) before meeting Sam as well but after the original bayverse movies I feel like the timelines just get a bit wonky in general, still love the movies regardless

Well needed refresher after the last two films. It came so close to becoming a beam in the sky flick, but thank god it didn’t. It’s still cliche and formulaic as hell, but it’s too much of a feel good watch to hate. How can anyone hate Bumblebee? This movie is such a heart warming and comfort movie for me. I love the way they explore the relationship between Transformers and humans, Bee and Charlie are adorable!! I really enjoyed watching Bumblebee learn about the new things around him and his way of talking through the radio station is so cool. Charlie is also a very relatable and interesting character and i love the way we follow her emotions and development through the movie and the exploration of the way she handles grief.

I’d say this is honestly one of the better Transformers movies. It def sets itself apart from the Bay films and almost feels like it’s in its own rebooted universe while staying true to some elements from that universe. I liked: the more faithful og designs, vocal performances, 1980s setting, action sequences, visuals, Travis Knight’s direction, and the opening scene on Cybertorn which is my fav part of the movie. My only wish is I wish there were more robots and didn’t focus so much on the humans.

i watched this because hailee steinfeld is in it. i have absoluely no idea anything about the transformers, but i had fun joining the transformers world for a little bit.

The Cybertron scene was peak. The rest of the movie was just the iron giant but Bumblebee.
- Synopsis
- On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary yellow VW bug.
