Zodiac is one of my favourite films so another thriller taking a similar approach was an exciting prospect. Unfortunately, Boston Strangler doesn’t offer much in the way of exciting filmmaking. There’s nothing overtly terrible about the piece; it’s safely competent and strictly respectful. However, the film’s script is burdened with wooden dialogue and ceases to find the necessary depth within its dogged protagonists. Rather than sizzling with tension like the aforementioned Zodiac, Matt Ruskin’s serial killer exposé is a drab, shallow and slightly tedious affair. Adequate but uninspired.

Shines brightest in the moments where the cynicism in journalism, in justice, in society throughout becomes a truth that cuts into something too close for comfort: we want these monsters just as much as we don’t, we create them just as much as we’d rid them, and in too many ways do we become them. Everyone wants to be a part of something until everyone just wants to move on (to the next one/thing).

Investigative journalism, true crime, Carrie Coon. A movie tailor-made for me. Been anticipating this and it delivered. An enthralling thriller that balances dark drama with creepy thriller very well. Gorgeously filmed and styled with many earthy colours and tones. If Kiera Knightley and Carrie Coon could be in every movie together that’d make me so happy. Gimme more more more investigative journalism movies please and thank you!!

Crazed killer confounds cops and keeps community on caution, while columnists Carrie Coon, Chris Cooper and Keira K-Nightly chronicled the cases. Enjoyed this quite a bit. It’s not as cinematically riveting as, say, David Fincher’s Zodiac but it also doesn’t glamorize the killer or the violence in any way. They actually made this movie as a favor to David Fincher. He wanted a filmmaker to remind people of the many achievements of Zodiac by directing a beat-for-beat rehash that doesn’t have any cool shit in it whatsoever.

… I had no idea the outcome of this true crime serial murders. I hesitate to say what surprised me, spoilers? For something they happened 60ish years ago? Struck a good balance between depicting the true events and not appearing to glorify the murderer(s) or use real victims’ suffering for entertainment (often something I find infuriating with these sorts of films). Dragged a bit, and didn’t have a big payoff. Tough story to make a movie out of when there are still so many unanswered questions.

This was so well done. Soon into watching it, I realized that I hadn’t heard much about the crimes before. I wasn’t expecting to get so roped in or feel so emotional but this was one of the best daytime watches I’ve had in a while. Loved the real photos of Loretta and Jean at the end and got chills as the credit ran.

I didn’t have high expectations for this film, but it pleasantly surprised me! It’s definitely the kind of movie that depends on your mood. I think I would have loved it even more if I’d watched it on a rainy autumn evening with a cup of tea in my hands. The suspense kept me hooked until the very end, Keira Knightley delivered a fantastic performance, and the overall atmosphere even reminded me of Sherlock at times. And the fact that it’s based on a true story completely shocked me.

Recht interessant, aber stellenweise verwirrend und insgesamt nicht ganz zufriedenstellend. Die Verwirrung basierte allerdings vermutlich zu Teilen auch darauf, dass ich während des Filmes angesichts der Bekämpfung einer Fruchtfliegenplage, bei der ich den Killcount des Boston Stranglers bei Weitem überbieten konnte, temporär den Fokus verloren habe.

Being completely unfamiliar with this case makes this a fascinating watch. However, I’m almost certain it wouldn’t have been as enjoyable if that weren’t the case. There is a very repetitive rhythm to this film. Certain similarly structured scenes and sequences are cushioned between major developments in the case. we have zodiac at home (complimentary) surprisingly really really good camera work here. keira knightly and carrie coon are hitting straight home runs here. had no idea that HE was in the movie till the second half but He was incredible (avoiding spoilers). highly suggest if you love a good crime thriller, hulu still has the sauce every once and a while.

Engaging mystery especially as someone completely unfamiliar with the Boston Strangler. Keira Knightley’s performance scared me a bit early on but grew on me as the movie progressed. This wasn’t an outstanding movie by any means but I was interested to see who the Boston Strangler really was. Pacing was all over the place at some points especially near the beginning. Not a great film but also not bad in any regard.

The Boston Strangler – Loretta McLaughlin, is an overlooked reporter who makes the link between murders… women are being strangled and figures it’s one man… Serial killer is not a phrase anyone uses at the time. Nor are plucky female reporters taken seriously. The body count rises but the story peters out. Interesting take on how things were at the time… another film that suffers from time bloat. It covers everything but I lost interest about half way through.
