There have been several great films this summer that have addressed race issues in America and police brutality and they’ve all done so in incredibly unique and memorable ways. This one seemed to hit the most. Not a film that necessarily feels like it should be critiqued, just one that needs to be seen. Does it have it’s flaws? Of course, but they feel so small and unnecessary to address when putting this film in the context of the world we’re living in and have been living in for so long. Left the theatre pissed off.

Usually, ending your movie with a news footage montage comes off as too preachy to me…..but the connection Spike makes between one of the characters and these certain clips is DUMBFOUNDING. Incredible and terrible at the same time. I then researched the actual story of Ron and not only was this dude the real deal but that “pic scene” really did happen. Wild. COMBO PRICE

I’m not sure who pointed it out, but it’s basically impossible for a cop to go undercover to infiltrate the KKK and not run into another cop who’s, y’know, not undercover

“The master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house” -Audre Lorde The scene where the cops tackled and cuffed Ron at the end made my heart drop even though we could have seen it coming from a mile away. This is good I enjoyed this very much.

We (the US) have never really been OK, have very much not been OK post-2016, and are very much especially not OK now. It’s fun to tweak the noses of terrible people but that really doesn’t stop them from continuing to be terrible. Maybe someday this very specific freight-train of an ending will seem quaint, time-locked, and vestigial. We can but hope.

One of the most harrowing, skillfully made, angry, incisive, and genuinely entertaining movies of the last 20 years. First time watching since the theaters, it’s aged devastatingly well. And I say devastatingly because it’s one of those movies you really hope would feel out of touch.

I didn’t expect a film about this subject to be so funny. It’s insane to see the mirror between the rhetoric used by the KKK and by current US politicians. Make America Great Again type beat 😀 Flip Zimmerman’s journey with his jewish identity was also super interesting: “I never used to think about it. Now I think about it all the time”. My issue was with the ending which I found a little Disney like. In one of the…

This movie didn’t pack as much of a punch as I anticipated it would. It didn’t delve into Colorado’s history with the KKK, specifically how the Colorado government was run by the Klan in the 1920s, which was disappointing to me as someone who was born and raised in Colorado, and I think it would have made the film stronger. The two “feel good” moments at the end felt odd and unrealistic to me. We also saw zero character development…

The fact that this is based on a true story and surprisingly accurate to that story is really cool. It’s inspiring in the same way students raising money for a teacher’s medical bills is. On the surface it’s “wow look at this extremely nice thing, people looking out for fellow people” but then you think harder and it’s “wait, why didn’t our system just handle that in the first place?” It’s good that Ron infiltrated and thwarted a lot of…

It’s crazy to see how good Spike Lee is at making movies while also CLEARLY making modern statements no matter what the time period is in the movie. Especially at the end of this movie. The entire cost us so well in this and all the imagery is pristine. Such a great time. Three Word Review: Still Relevant Today.

This movie is just so good man I real don’t have much to say other than the segments where the Duke is talking on the radio sounds juts like Nick Fuentes’ rants and while it’s funny a degree, it’s also very uncomfortable knowing this kind of rhetoric is still very much alive and well in today’s world. I pray to see the day when these ideologies are fully put to rest and the pain can finally stop.

A great crime drama that’s also funnier at times than I expected. Not a fan of John David Washington’s acting usually but he’s really charming in this. Loved Harry Belafonte’s segment, it’s devastating that The Birth of a Nation helped lead to a Klan resurgence. The ending fragments and everything that has transpired since is depressing.

It’s the kind of film that understands its political milieu all too well, while injecting some banger directorial flourishes into the mix. I just have reservations about its anachronistic undertones; I can’t help but feel that whatever it tries to say never quite blossoms into something substantial.

Both a glorious buddy cop comedy and a nuanced commentary on the everlasting racial tensions that plague America. Topher Grace is simply outstanding. One of my personal favorites.

BlacKkKlansman is the kind of film that laughs with its teeth clenched. At first, Spike Lee disguises the darkness as absurdity. A Black police officer infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan sounds so fucking ridiculous that it almost becomes a comedy of errors a man phoning racists and somehow convincing them that he belongs among them. The irony is delicious. The stupidity is almost comforting. But that laughter slowly curdles. Because beneath the absurd premise is something far uglier: hatred doesn’t…

Franchement, j’ai eu du mal à accrocher tant le point de départ de l’histoire me semble improbable.
