The question that “Black Adam” poses is a simple one: What happens when Hollywood’s most risk-averse movie star collides with Hollywood’s most risk-averse movie genre? The answer provided by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s depressingly inevitable (and inevitably depressing) foray into the superhero-industrial complex is, of course, even simpler: Exactly what you’d expect. Only worse. All due respect to whatever unique and illustrious history Black Adam may have developed since his DC Comics debut in 1945, but the lifeless spectacle that director Jaume Collet-Serra — who made some nifty thrillers before “Jungle Cruise” reduced him to the John Ford of Rawson Marshall Thurbers — has cobbled together for the character’s big screen origin story is so exhaustingly derivative of other superhero…

I’m sad to say that this was not about drive, it was not about power, they were not hungry and they did not devour. They may have put in the work, put in the hours to take what’s theirs but was it worth it? No.

Imagine cannibalising your studio’s streaming catalogue, cancelling near-finished projects for a tax write off, and pinning all of your box office hopes on *checks notes* Black Adam and Don’t Worry Darling. Revenge is a dish best served in poor Rotten Tomatoes scores.

The human characters ruin this movie

One of these movies where the humans were absolutely useless, but this movie takes it a step further by putting them in the way, constantly, all the time.

I remember seeing this in theater with my friends like 4 years ago and then walking out midway.

When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson portrayed Black Adam in Black Adam (2022) changing the hierarchy of power in the DC universe forever, I truly believed that the hierarchy of power in the DC universe was changed forever

I swear the rock plays the same character in every movie he’s in. Only keeps his job cause of his wwe days. Dr Fate was really cool. And yea let’s throw in Cavil’s Superman and Amanda Waller in the post-credit scene and not do anything with it. Shame on you Snyderverse, shame on you. So much wasted potential.
-
M
i’m not gonna lie i was not mentally prepared for this but im on my dceu letterboxd grind so i had to watch it i mean the main plot points i picked up were he’s connected with shazam he teams up with the justice society and amanda waller shows up and so does superman so do with that what you will

What a fucking disappointment.

This movie has so much wasted potential it genuinely pisses me off. Imagine if they casted an actor from SWANA and the amount of depth and representation that could have brought to the role. But no they had to cast the rock giving an emotionless performance. And let’s be real, an actor from swana would have brought so much swag and sex appeal to the role as well. The rock has me dry as a desert. It also makes no…

Some cool characters here, and Pierce Brosnan is a pretty good casting, but unfortunately an exception. Basically, whoever was in charge of casting for the DCEU should probably be executed

Worse than I remember it to be, though I do think Black Adam could’ve gone on to be a cool character had the DCEU continued as Snyder envisioned it to! Black Adam sees a man who inherited the powers of Shazam 5000 years ago come back to life and find himself in a Khandaq totally unfamiliar to him, seen as a threat to the world the Justice Society begin to hunt Black Adam down. Black Adam attacked the gods of…

i have said this a number of times before, nobody on earth. not even a child’s favorite actor is dwayne the rock johnson. he is the epitome of corporate slop, if netflix impregnates a regular netflix movie script, do you want to know what comes out? dwayne the rock johnson, I have nothing against him. its just, its unbelievable how many movies he gets casted on. He is netflix slop reincarnated into a person, everything about him screams netflix. Netflix…

Some of the most blatant Neoliberal propaganda, to the point where many things feel like their meant to be parody, even though they are not. Calling the western team of Superhero’s „Justice Society“ is just the pinnacle of the hypocrisy in the displayed politics. The Justices Society’s motive of course is just keeping the stability in the world, with just enough violence to keep the opposing sides in their place. Meanwhile the suppressed country which Black Adam defends is morally…

He seems like a really cool and interesting character very powerful too. I like the opening very good explanation on the crown and black Adam’s origin. Tf Waller doing here? Girl this ain’t yo movie, girls the fury of dc. OMG DR FATE? HAWKMAN? The mom and son are cool and badass. Dr fate seems really interesting and I’d love to learn more about his character. Also that girl that did the whole smoke thing is super cool and interesting.…
