Eddie Murphy returns to the Hills, Brushing up on his detective skills. All will get shot, Then they’ll laugh a lot, LOL-ing at Disneyland kills.

According to John Landis, who re-teamed with Eddie Murphy in directing Beverly Hills Cop 3, most people on the picture knew the script was weak but he was convinced that with Murphy on form as displaced, maverick Detroit cop Axel Foley, they would make it funny by default, as he believed had been the case with the first, well loved movie a decade earlier. What he was surprised to find, on filming, was Murphy keen to dodge almost every opportunity to be funny, bring out the smart mouth of Axel, with Murphy claiming age had matured the character to the point he wouldn’t pull the same kind of tricks. Co-star Bronson Pinchot, who appears as the ultra camp Serge after…

Just as narratively useless as Tony Scott’s COP II but wildly understylized in comparison, this is so demonstrably a John Landis picture. Economically photographed, casual, packed with pointless cameos and vaudeville-level gags, steeped in nostalgic showbiz arcana, and completely self-aware. What it isn’t is even remotely exciting. The aforementioned economy would have been completely alien to the action genre by 1994, and so this is the least visceral cop movie imaginable. What’s more it almost completely lacks Axel Foley shtick, which is pretty much the only thing you’re here to see. I’d be willing to bet that that this made it through the system at all only due to sheer laziness and contractual obligation on the part of all involved, but on the other hand that seems to negate its intrinsic weirdness.

Was that… George Lucas?🧐 What is he doing here? Axel Foley at a theme park🎡 sounds like the funnest premise ever so it’s kind of a downer that this is the franchise’s worst movie🎢. Taggart being missing is a huge disappointment☹️ & Axel didn’t really do his fast talking schtick🗣️ which is what made the first 2 movies special. It feels more like a generic action comedy and not part of the Bevely Hills Cop franchise🤷♀️. But overall, I still liked it because the characters are still loveable💙. Any scene with Billy or Serge is absolute gold😂 and even when he’s phoning it in Eddie Murphy is still one of the most charismatic guys around😎.

Landis gets some visual mileage out of the amusement park setting, but as for narrative and humor, it’s running on fumes from the jump. The heat is off!

This sequel’s storyline, with Axel running around an amusement park, was clearly designed to appeal to kids who’d watched the previous two R-rated Cops on cable TV. So of course, this kids-first sequel was also rated R. That’s right; it’s an adults-only kid-friendly sequel! They couldn’t even pander properly. I was one of those kids, of course, and at the time I could never figure out why I liked this one so much less than the previous two movies. (I didn’t learn about the tortured development until later.) No matter what you know about how Beverly Hills Cop III was made, it is really dire. A couple cool practical stunts aside, the stench of desperation hangs in the air throughout,…

Why would I do this to myself? Why does this movie look so FAKE? How do you fuck up the Axel F Theme? Axel rents a Toyota Convertible?! (Cool?) “Alien Attack?” Opens door and wanders into a theme park control booth. Ronny Cox said, “They wanted me to be in Beverly Hills Cop III, but…I read the script.”

Except for some cutesy theme park sequences, the dull and messy movie loses out on most of the franchise juice and ends up a disappointing affair.

“Do you know what’s scary? Beverly Hills Cop II was probably the most successful mediocre picture in history. It made $250 million worldwide, and it was a half-assed movie. Cop II was basically a rehash of Cop I, but it wasn’t as spontaneous and funny. But my pictures make their money back. There’s no reason to do [Beverly Hills Cop III]: I don’t need the money, and it’s not gonna break any new ground. How often can you have Axel Foley talk fast and get into a place he doesn’t belong? But these motherfuckers [at Paramount] are developing scripts for it. They’re in preproduction. The only reason to do a Cop III is to beat the bank, and Paramount ain’t…

Rotten Tomatoes: 10% Metacritic Metascore: 16 IMDB: 5.5 17/100 …Awful, just awful. Jon Flint:”A $50 bill? I have a wife and three kids. I haven’t seen a $50 bill in 12 years.” I recently suffered through Beverly Hills Cop 3, and I’m genuinely angry at how terrible this movie is. Eddie Murphy looks like he’d rather be elsewhere – as his performance is so lifeless and disengaged that it’s almost painful to watch. This was clearly a cash grab on his part, and for that matter, everyone else’s part as well, from the two screenwriters who helmed the first two all the way down to the boom operator. Gone is the charismatic, quick-witted Axel Foley we loved; instead, we get…

It’s fine. It’s like a vanilla version of Beverly hills cop -movie. Gone are the fast mouthing and rough edged world and action. There’s memorable scenes and lovely earworm amusement park song, but if that’s the main thing on your mind after, something’s a miss.

I’ve been dwelling on what to rate this movie for a bit now, my initial thoughts was it’s two stars, but the more I think about it there’s so much this movie misses the mark on, from the opening scene alone and the death of one of my favourite characters Inspector Douglas Todd, it’s clear the clever humour married with the big set pieces is gone, and now it’s just a case of let’s be as silly as possible, Having only…

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. When it comes to terrible comedy sequels I would put this movie just behind Caddyshack two which was horrible. It amazes me that they made a fourth movie.

I forgot George Lucas, Al Green and Joe Dante have cameos in this. It’s honestly fun, it’s got nothing on the first two, something I assume is because of the significant gap between the first to releases in 1984 and 1987 and this in 1994. It’s definitely the most cartoonish of the franchise, the first two were comedies but also had good action and enough of a serious plot to work without the comedy, the humour never felt forced, this…

eddie murphy is easily the best part of this. he has so much charisma that even when the actual plot wasn’t doing much for me, he kept the movie entertaining. the 80s setting and soundtrack are great too, and the action has some fun moments. i just found the story pretty predictable and some of the pacing dragged. definitely has its moments, but i expected to like it more.

The series just keeps getting worse sadly, I sure hope they don’t drop another one in 2024 called Beverly Hills Cop Axel F, that would just be a waste of time and money.

Honestly for my first-time watch of this, it is definitely the weakest entry in the trilogy and a genuinely disappointing, bad movie. John Landis’s direction feels incredibly poor here, trading the gritty, slick style of the first two films for a bizarre, weak Wonder World amusement park setting that feels entirely too cartoonish. There is a painful, noticeable lack of that signature, sharp Eddie Murphy humor, leaving Axel feeling strangely hollow. But guess what? I still give it 3 stars…

really enjoyed this one. Eddie Murphy is still so funny and Axel Foley is such a fun character to follow. The film has a more playful feel and the action is entertaining.

Recapitulemos. La primera, Un detective suelto en Hollywood (Beverly Hills…
