In all fairness to Axel, I don’t think anyone can describe the plot of Jupiter Ascending.

Beverly Hills Cop became the most successful cinematic showcase for Eddie Murphy’s talents, but it wasn’t designed for him. It was conceived as a straight-forward Sylvester Stallone vehicle, and it remained that way until just a few weeks before filming began, when Stallone dropped out and Murphy subbed in at the last minute. The conceit wound up working better with Murphy than it ever could have with Stallone, because as an Eddie Murphy movie, Beverly Hills Cop’s text and metatext fell perfectly into sync. Instead of Stallone in yet another macho cop movie, BHC became Eddie Murphy in a Sylvester Stallone movie; he’s as much a fish out of water as Detroit cop Axel Foley is in Beverly Hills. But…

A good fresh return to the first two OG movies! They really hated the third movie with a passion. It was cool to see Eddie Murphy return as Axel Foley again. It was cool to see Judge Reinhold as Billy Rosewood come back again. It was also great to see John Ashton as John Taggart, and Paul Reiser as Jeffrey come back in this especially when there absence was huge in Beverly Hills Cop III (1994). I really wish they had a little more screen time, but I’m also not surprised at all. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon are great additions to bring in this. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Eddie Murphy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt throughout this. Lorne Balfe…

Perfectly adequate paint-by-numbers legacy sequel. Biggest problem is they’ve almost totally sanded down Foley’s rebellious streak, basically the cornerstone of the series and the character.

Someone check on Eddie Murphy’s back because his ability to carry the typical Netflix legacy sequel slop is impressive. Movie is funny! Even if it’s solely exploiting our nostalgia or forgetting what made the original Beverly Hills Cop special in the first place.

Eddie just making an entire comedy meal out of the name “Saunders” being boring? Bliss

It’s good. It doesn’t recapture the magic of the original but it isn’t a lifeless mess like 3. It plays it safe. That mostly is good because you get what you want from the series. Eddie is having fun and everyone seems excited to be there Joseph Gordon Levitt is a welcome addition. But Axel’s daughter is too stiff and one note. She drags things down a bit. I wish we got more time with the original trio together. But when they’re on screen it’s fun. It’s not trying to reinvent things. It’s just trying to deliver a good time and it does. It’s a Netflix original. If you go in expecting a Netflix movie you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If you expect the original you’ll be disappointed. It’s a good time but no classic.

A renegade cop who refuses to play by the rules or pay any mind to the ungodly amount of collateral damage he causes in the name of saving Los Angeles from its own systemic rot, Axel Foley makes so much sense as the hero of a Netflix movie that it’s hard to believe the company didn’t invent him itself. Maybe that helps to explain why “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” feels sturdier and more self-possessed than your average straight-to-streaming legacy sequel, including Eddie Murphy’s own “Coming 2 America.” Here is a story of — and about — the diminished but enduring power of a classic brand in modern Hollywood (or at least the greater Hollywood area), and the moral of…

Deeply weird to have a new Jerry Bruckheimer movie *exclusively* playing at The Paris Theater in NYC.

They did it. The balance of the old and new was perfect. Instead of falling into that legacy sequel trap. They just made a sequel. It’s not the same or trying to be a replica but it’s full of nostalgia hits. These guys are much older and it’s acknowledged they have changed. The newer cast isn’t “new versions” they just put characters who compliment the originals next to them that have an actual story. In a movie that feels like it can easily go off the rails it never does. Taylour Paige and JGL really kill it. Plus MAUREEN!

(065/2026) A cool movie that captures the vibe of the older installments but with modern special effects. It’s also very funny ;] Eddie Murphy doesn’t even look his age—he looks a lot younger.

Pura nostalgia. No está mal y es mejor que la III.

After 20 years Axel Foley returns in the fourth chapter of the Beverly Hills Cop saga: a good movie, relatively better than the previous chapter, where the protagonist should face a new case but also family issues like the difficult relationship with his daughter, who has grown and she’s become a lawyer, she will help Axel to discover the conspiracy and at the same time the two tries to resolve their family situation. The story is a classic police story…

Legacy Sequels are always scary especially when it’s of a franchise you love, there’s been some great ones for me such as Halloween 2018 but more often then not they never hit the mark, which is why I’m happy to say Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F does that, Yeah like most Legacy Sequels this is overly reliant on its nostalgia grabs, and it takes on the most serious tone of the franchise yet, but I still had a good time, there’s…

This gets a 4 because I saw it right after 3 which was soooo bad. This gets everything right that 3 got wrong. Good villain. New characters were interesting and had good chemistry with Murphy. He was great as a more mature Foley who still pulls the same shit. Decent villain and good use of Reinhold and Ashton. Kind of hope they do another one.

Yet another in the recent trend of “we do not need this sequel 30 years after the last one.” That said, it’s actually pretty good. Just great to hang out with Axel, Taggart, Rosewood, Bronson Pinchot and Paul Reiser. Just wish we could do something new and original in this ballpark.

This was much better than expected. The performances at the beginning by the old characters are pretty bad. Eddie does a good job though. Once he gets into the role and you see how he’s kind of outdated himself the movie starts to pick up. Kevin Bacon mades a terrible bad guy though, so that wa a miscast. I’d say 2nd or 3rd best one of the series.

as a movie, this was NOT Beverly Hills Cop. but I liked it. they did a decent job of taking the classic Axel Foley character and placing him in a modern day. Eddie does NOT look 30+ years older. i liked the call back nostalgia bait scenes, better than Happy Gilmores attempt. speaking of Happy Gilmore… Im pretty sure that was Shooter Mcgavin official connecting these two franchises.

M
Really good, it started of kinda interesting but I thought it would be kinda mid but it worked up and became at least as good as the second one
-
C
Pretty decent for a legacy sequel however the lack of the original Axel F theme was a big issue for me, these films are at their best when that shit’s being blasted every 5 seconds.
-
P
Worst one yet, but always glad to see Taggert. Shooter McGavin being in this movie connects Beverly Hills Cop to Happy Gilmore and I think that’s cool

Not that bad of a movie. Some scenes were kinda bad but the plot held together pretty well. I can’t even count the amount of different versions of the theme song played during this movie it almost became a bit.

I mean, it could have been worse? I mean, I wasn’t even going to watch it, but the clip that Netflix played looked amusing and so I tried it. Of course it’s not going to be good, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be enjoyable. And enjoy it I did, for the most part. Watching the old school posturing masculinity of Eddie Murphy’s Axel clash with the new school vulnerable masculinity of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Bobby is amusing, especially as the…

Good movie but not as good the other two movies. Some what this it was slap something together because Hollywood ran out of movie ideas. So let make another movie of popular movie franchises by adding another one to the series.

Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley in a nostalgic yet fresh adventure filled with humor, action, and familiar faces. While the film leans heavily on its roots, it delivers entertaining chase scenes and comedic moments. Despite some predictability, it captures the essence of the original series, offering a fun escape for fans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj-tY5ynDto

As someone who’s only a modest fan of the first two Beverly Hills Cop films, and who views the phrase “Netflix Original Movie” as a gigantic red flag, there’s a reason it took me two years to get around to this belated forth installment, which, like 90% of Netflix Originals, came and went like a fart in the wind. But surprise, surprise, I thought this was quite solid! For one thing, barring some shoddy CGI in the climactic shootout, it…

Decent legacy sequel that didn’t really try to be relatable to this generation because that’s what usually ruins them. Still funny, still somewhat decent plot line, I’m just annoyed we didn’t see Billy that much.

”Look Mr. Foley, I appreciate you’ve been doing this a long time. But the world has changed a bit” No truer words have been spoken, and this single line of dialogue pretty much sums up my entire thought process for this wholly unnecessary sequel. Indeed the world has changed a bit, and some might dare to say, not for the best. The original movie virtually came out in a different universe from today. Can a movie like ‘Beverly Hills Cop’…

All your favourites from the Beverly Hills Cop franchise show up for this sequel. The humour hits and the soundtrack from the original is here for everyone to enjoy. A nice touch was Axel’s relationship with his daughter which gave the movie more layers than I expected. The action was constant throughout so the movie flowed smoothly. Kevin Bacon’s character played a good bad guy as well. My only complaint is I wanted more Judge Reinhold. All in all it was an energetic, fun and nostalgic joyride. I give it two thumbs up.

Good as far as sequels with a long layoff go but I don’t like this die hard esque rip off of the estranged dad and they kind of ruined judge Reinhold character
-

#EddieMurphy as a #BeverlyHillsCop smiling like it’s 1984 & still hungry. The plot is a pension plan, the action is nostalgia, the theme song hits anyway. I didn’t need this. I wanted it. Axel Foley in a world that moved on without him, still talking fast, still somehow right.

The Beverly Hills Cop franchise reaches its fourth installment with this entry. The first two films were monumental box-office smashes. Interestingly, the role of Axel Foley was originally developed with Sylvester Stallone in mind. After Stallone passed on the project, the part landed squarely in the lap of the brilliant Eddie Murphy, fitting him like a glove. In this fourth movie, Axel returns to Beverly Hills to assist his estranged attorney daughter and his old buddy Rosewood, who have found…

Though it relies heavily on nostalgia of the original three films, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F does provide a good amount of comedic moments though mostly from lead Eddie Murphy who embraces the classic 80s/90s, molding well the modern era (i.e. in the 2020s). Not the best comedy of 2024, but I’m glad to have it as my 1000th review under my Reviews By Cammixed banner.
