A little bit John Wick 3.5 but mostly like its rageful little sister, Ana de Armas/Eve’s frantic resourcefulness and fiery outbursts feel extra brutal here in contrast to John’s anger that is almost a casual and calculated fact of life. I can’t be mad when the basic revenge plot is a thinly veiled excuse to indulge in flamethrower ballet and ice skate slicing, there’s some really impressive stuff in the third act especially that makes me think Len Wiseman might feel a little awkward having his name attached instead of someone else cough cough. And thank god for that. Keaton cameo!

BALLERINA’s plot and characters are threadbare even by John Wick standards (and that’s saying something), but the action is just unbelievable. This movie is 2 hours long and I estimate about 80 minutes of that is just straight, uncut, late stage John Wick-style level quality action. There are some really innovative action ideas, especially involving military hardware. At one point after a particularly audacious sequence, a guy behind me exclaimed, “THAT IS ABSOLUTE CINEMA.” Indeed sir. It was. Read my review at Decoding Everything

This film was a box ticker, i only watched it cos ive seen every other john wick film, this sucks ass. The acting and dialogue is god awful at numerous points and the action is just what you see in other john wick movies, but way worse. Its straight up boring as fuck. There was a triple replay of Ana De Armas stopping a flame thrower with a hose and its hilarious.

Flame Thrower Battle! snowy village part felt like a mix of re4 and re village. very fun. best use of grenades in a movie bar none. a lot of this movie felt like they came up with a creative kill, then built the story and action around it, and it works really well.

This addition to the JW world was great. The creative combat sequences were fresh throughout. Ana de Armas was good at the action sequences and held her own against battling helmetted men. However, she seemed to calm throughout the action. After seeing They Will Kill You, every woman action star needs to take lessons from Zazie Beetz on how to be crazy believable at expressing strong action moments.

Ana De Armas could always can get free points from me but she didnt even felt like herself, and those blade sound effects were just not it. Amazing set pieces and neon visuals throughout. Eve’s first mission was peak John Wick vibe, mixed with the interesting look at the beginning of getting into the business. Ana de Armas est excellente et captivante dans son rôle. Le scénario n’a rien d’original et reste prévisible. Notons tout de même que l’échelle des puissances est cohérente dans un film où Eve se bat à sa manière, parfois spectaculaire (armes, techniques de combat) et sans chercher à imiter John Wick (qui démontre lors de ses apparitions pourquoi il demeure le seul et unique croquemitaine).

Réalisé par Len Wiseman, Ballerina s’impose comme un divertissement d’action particulièrement efficace et visuellement généreux. Emmené par une Ana de Armas d’une impressionnante intensité physique, le film brille par des séquences de combat inventives et spectaculaires — à l’image d’un affrontement au lance-flammes saisissant. Si le réalisateur parvient à maintenir le niveau d’exigence visuelle de la franchise, le métrage souffre de la présence totalement inutile de John Wick, un caméo artificiel qui vient affaiblir l’arc narratif et l’indépendance de son héroïne. Un très bon moment d’action malgré cet écueil narratif.

Didn’t think I’d get as much of a KICK (Ballerina pun!) out of it as I did. Really honors the themes, and the action-style, of what makes John Wick tick well. A wise new addition to the franchise with enough of a taste of the Reeves to keep Baba Yaga in the fold. I’m continually amazed at the creativity of Stahelski and team, I know he’s not the director on here but that style is still vibrantly rampant here. The flamethrower sequence tops the list, closely followed by the hunter sequence. Really just everything in Hallstatt is tops. What a beautiful place!!! (go in real life)

I didnt go into this expecting it to be my favorite john wick thing but here we are. A lot of it comes from its subversions but also just its generally more clean with it than the later entries of the main series. Im exited to see where this all goes. some of the “fight like a girl” things are a little cringe but its not awful or anything. the thing with the granades makes it all worthwhile.

Ballerina is a film set in the World of John Wick. Part of this film is actually a cross over/expansion to a scene from John Wick 3. Specifically, it’s the part of John Wick 3 where he visits the Ruska Roma organisation for a favour. The story follows Eve, a member of the organisation, as she sets out to seek revenge for her fathers murder. I found Ballerina to be very watchable, but only just slightly better than John Wick…
