In BAD BOYS II, they sneak a small army into Cuba. In this one they fly commercial to Mexico. Not without its moments, including a handful of good lines and some nice handheld longer takes and assorted camera gags in the relatively legible action sequences. Otherwise this is mightily generic. You’ll be longing for the manic, gorgeous awfulness of Bay’s plastic poison.

Has the over-saturated colors, explosive action, Guys Being Dudes energy, violent gross-out gags you expect of the franchise but all wrapped up into a pretty conventional modern blockbuster screenplay that doesn’t leave much space for the unhinged mania and repulsiveness that made Bad Boys II memorable. I think because Smith and Lawrence lock right back into their chemistry and the kinetic cinematography by Robrecht Heyvaert successfully mutates the Bay look into something stylishly clean (resembling more the slick, digital post-John Wick bloodshed-stunt spectaculars than the vulgar analog chaos of Bay) that this broadly works but there is something strange about how inoffensive and… emotionally… coherent it is? I mean normally I wouldn’t say a movie has too much genuine moral reckoning with its characters complicated history of violence but this borders on Decent, Tasteful Boys at a certain point.

Lacks the style, craft, personality, and deranged nihilism of Michael Bay’s masterpiece Bad Boys II but partly makes up for it with a surprisingly coherent, emotional story. A better ending than most trilogies get.

Three thoughts I had during this movie: 1) Think of the best possible cameo that this movie could have. Yeah, they got it. (No, not ** ******. The other one.) 2) Honestly a little disappointed at how smooth the action in this film felt– it was like they wanted to sand down the edges of Bayhem into something a little more palatable. Which is impressive! But Bad Boys should be the kind of dumb action movie where a bunch of cops drive recklessly through Brazilian favelas, just because it seems cool. 3) If they ever make a Gears of War movie (sorry- when) these guys should be behind it. The entire third act screamed Gears of War to me, which is an outstanding thing to do since that is a game and phrase I have not seen or thought about in maybe 8 or so years now.

A solid followup/return after a long decade plus. Seeing all three movies in a row, the tonal shift was very evident and a bit of a whiplash, tbh. In many ways, it feels more sanitized and polished, which felt and looked kind of weird after the last two (especially the second one) visually bloated entries. I mean, you can at least make up what’s going on for the most part and the explosions and whatnot are still there. There’s some solid and potentially memorable moments, but nothing I’d say will stand out in the long run. However, Smith and Lawrence’s chemistry is still there and still really good. This one’s a little less batshit🤯 than the first 2 because it wasn’t directed by an overgrown teenage boy🧒🏼 but it’s still really fun🔥. I honestly wish it was a bit more nasty & tasteless😈 but the heart made up for it❤️🔥. It’s a Bad Boys movie. I love them all😎. Whatcha gonna do?🤷♀️

*sighs heavily* what could of been… I like the directors, there are redeemable moments but overall no where in the same realm of story telling as its predecessors. This film makes those look like citizen cane in comparison when for the most part they were mostly fun action than deep storytelling. I hate played out sequels that center the story around breaking the 4th wall to crowd service moments that are so artificial. Studios may never learn… when the story…

Maybe not as balls to the wall crazy as Bad Boys II, but some pretty fun action all things considered. The camera work on some of the action scenes in particular was real fun. The story however is… fine. Nothing mind blowing. The chemistry between Smith and Lawrence is still intact, I got a few good laughs, and I left overall satisfied. What a way to wrap up the Bad Boys series… what do you mean there’s another one

Will Smith e Martin Lawrence ainda têm a química intacta, e o Adil e o Bilall filmam ação com mais clareza do que o Bay filmava — dá pra ver o que está acontecendo na tela, que revolução. A trama de revelação familiar é novela mexicana pura e eu aceitei sem discutir.
