Action! – The Unlikely Rumble: Hill v Hyams Walter Hill attempts to relive his glory days with one of his few sequels (this one being the most direct) to some of his earlier favorites. At first glance, it appears like repeating the method is a definite way to win. Unfortunately, it is not the case in this circumstance. And this film appears to be a perfect example of one of those sequels where, with a few adjustments here and there, it’s largely the same beat by beat story. Some settings change, some moments are extended or shortened, and so on, but the overall effect is the same. And, while Murphy still has his comic moments and Nolte appears more irritated…

Expected this to be real bad, but I think Another 48 Hrs. is moreso the textbook example of the type of sequel that manages to be inferior in every way to its predecessor, yet is still pretty enjoyable on its own. Most of this is just a lazy redo of the first one but with clear diminishing returns, throwing in more action and explosions to compensate for the lack of originality. However, the story here is a total mess and most of it is held together almost entirely by the two leads, who do a decent enough job to make Another 48 Hrs. at least fun as a throwaway buddy cop action comedy, if one that’s mostly just a pale imitation of the first movie.

Another 48 Hrs. was a surprise as I didn’t even know 48 Hrs. had a sequel, but I decided to check it out after the original because otherwise I’d probably never get around to it. Honestly, I liked this a tad more than the first. The chemistry between Nolte and Murphy persists, and while it’s still pretty par for the course for this kind of joint, the whole thing just played a little better for me. There’s definitely a slight case of member berries, with the film leaning on some of the high points of the first, but they still mostly work because that chemistry remains the biggest strength of these films. It’s not doing anything particularly revolutionary, but I found myself having a better time with this one than the original. Still an average joint for this particular cinematic strain, but I’d give this the slight edge.

First time viewing!!! And honestly, I’m glad I did see this one. I mean, it’s a good companion to the first one. It has a similar personality, tone and some good humor thrown in. I’m not quite sure if I’d say it’s the original’s equal, that might take time to say, but for right now, with it being a sequel, I’d say it does more than enough to come out ahead. Maybe I like these characters enough that hanging out with them is enough for me, but I think the material is good enough that Another 48 Hours ends up being a good movie. I mean, like I said earlier it hits on many of the reasons the first one…

“When you’ve been in prison as long as I have, you remember every story about pussy you ever heard!” The boys are back indeed! Plays like a Golan-Globus sequel to the original with Walter Hill channeling some Michael Winner, notably those extreme low angles and close-ups. This one is gunning for high style and that was the right call for a delayed sequel to one of the eighties best action scripts, and a buddy flick that wasn’t going to be bested easily. Don’t expect this to come near that classic, but do expect a barnstormer with flair: sheets of exploding glass, neon streets, and rowdy action sequences that culminate in darkly lit porn theatres and strip joints respectively. Oh, and I promise there’s still plenty of that Nolte/Murphy chemistry left in the chamber. Don’t you worry about that. Goes best with extra buttery popcorn.

After the first movie, Eddie Murphy made a little indie movie known as Beverly Hills Cop that became a bazillion dollars hit trilogy during that decade, which made the actor’s name so hot, of course the idea of revisiting one of his previous hits and turning on a new sequel was inevitable, thus Another 48 Hrs. came to be. Cooked up by Murphy himself, penning the premise and calling Walter Hill back to direct and Nick Nolte back as his co-lead, the result is a lean breezy action comedy as to be expected from post Beverly Hills Cop Eddie Murphy and not so much of a 48 Hrs. gritty cop Noir/urban Western proper sequel, although definitely still inhabits that universe…

An endless staircase flophouse drenched in red lights with a tornado of bullets, finale club shootout overdosing on uzi fire and fog, brion james, all action scenes filled with classic Hill explosive violence/shattered glass, and psycho biker Andrew Divoff (!!!!) as icing on the cake. I’d kill to see the crazy 145 minute cut of this.

I didn’t remember watching this as a kid until I saw those two bikers riding their choppers like dirt bikes — wheelie-ing, jumping, skidding through the dirt. This imagery definitely could have sent me down a path to becoming an outlaw biker, but then I realized I’m not brave enough to ride a motorcycle (or get a tattoo, or wear a vest made of leather)

Of course, they had to milk this cash cow, but this movie didn’t measure up to the first one. Still, it was okay.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN. Fun enough sequel even if it doesn’t match the heights of the original 48 Hrs. The scene at the Barnstormers club with the live band and saxophone ruled. More movies need saxophones IMO. Nolte and Murphy work way better together than they should and the fun back and forth banter still rocks. Story is a little more convoluted the simple premise of the first but overall, an enjoyable enough 90 minutes.

Action x 52 2026 Challenge – Prompt #48: Watch an action film starring Eddie Murphy. Scavenger Hunt #137 – Prompt #25: Watch a film starring a blonde male protagonist. I think I actually like this one better than the first film. It’s completely over the top. Not a single moment of this movie seems remotely plausible, and I found that pretty damn entertaining. Love the psycho hitman biker gang. Love the enormous explosions. Love how ridiculous the whole thing gets. Pretty fun sequel.

Still holds up as a stylish and hard boiled buddy action comedy, and it’s definitely the kind of film we just don’t see anymore. But most of the credit goes to Walter Hill and his sturdy, stylish direction and action set pieces. There are a lot of great, recognizable actors in this film but no one is really bringing their A-game to this, and you can see the seams of exactly what happened with this film: rushed into production and…

“Ah, goddammit, I didn’t TOAST the guy! I just SHOT him! For Chrissakes, don’t say I TOASTED him.” This Walter Hill sequel doesn’t quite have the magic of first, due to it being an almost rehash of the first. The story feels a little tired to, luckily both Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte returned and they still had the chemistry from the original to. Decent support cast, Brion James , Kevin Tighe , Ed O’Ross and Andrew Divoff . The…

Murphy & Nolte are still great here and remind of Glover/Gibson in the Lethal Weapon movies as their dynamic remains unchanged and the best thing here. Murphy is especially just as charming as ever and hasn’t lost a step. The villians are alright I guess but over the top and almost like cartoons. Everyone else is just on the forgettable side. Humor is alright enough too getting a laugh every now and than. Acting is decent honestly as a whole. Music…

A perfectly fine buddy cop action comedy. Kind of more of the same from the first film and does the things sequels do where everything you loved in the first film is back for the second. Repeated scenarios and jokes make this feel staler than the first film. It has some decent action and funny jokes but nothing spectacular. Bonus points for being less racist than the first film lmao.

Despite re-uniting the stars and director of the original, the law of diminishing returns applies to this sequel, ironically, considering that it clearly was afforded a much bigger budget (given the wanton destruction on display). By this time, Eddie Murphy was a star in his own right (in fact, he swiped top-billing from Nick Nolte here, and the film was even co-produced through his company) and, yet, his role is still basically the same, that is, subservient to his co-star’s…

It’s not bad, this just doesn’t have the same energy as the first. It goes for more action which isn’t bad, but most people agree that wasn’t what was so great about the first one, it was the comedy and chemistry between our leads. To be fair though, that chemistry is still there which makes it still be a good enough movie.

Much like the relationship between Murphy and Nolte in the movie this felt wooden and forced. I liked the first one ok enough, but this one just felt a little too awkward to work

I’ll be honest, the writing here is unbelievably lazy and the plot is a shameless, beat-for-beat re-tread of the first movie. But guess what? I do not care at all. On my millionth rewatch, I’m not here for the screenplay, I’m here for the god-tier chemistry, the hilariously escalated action, and Reggie Hammond trying to replicate his jailhouse singing magic right before a prison bus flips over multiple times. Walter Hill basically said, More money, more property damage, more glass…

It was great to see Murphy and Nolte together again, and it’s well directed, but everyone was just mean and angry and yelling at each other, the plot never really popped for me, and the third act felt rushed. That last part made more sense to me, after I’d seen the movie and then read, that it was cut down from 2+ hours to 95 minutes, removing most of the Brion James stuff! I’d love to see that cut…!

The Walter Hill Experience: A Journey Through the Filmography of Walter Hill Reminds me of how Beverly Hills Cop 2 interacts with its predecessor, this film is sleeker and more modern (that’s what 8 years will do, it was much more impressive when Tony Scott was pioneering this in 1986) but just as mean and venomous. It’s mostly unpleasant, but I honestly just find Nolte and Murphy’s whole stick to be a little too bitter. The action is good (the…

It’s remarkable really that eighties cop action movies demonise Internal Affairs as interfering snitches who obstruct real police from doing their tough, violent jobs even when the ultimate villains of the film are corrupt cops! This is more generic than the original, and predictably dull in places, although the central dynamic still works.

For me. Just as good as the first film. Edward & Nicolas are just as great a pairing in this as they were previously. Good action. Good violence & some very funny dialogue. The villains here are just as chaotic as the 2 from the first film & maybe even cooler looking with their biker gang aesthetics. Another 2 days is very under rated. Not perfect, but its a very good 90s action comedy.

Thought that this was a decent follow up to the first. The camera angles and lenses used at times were a little amateurish and unfitting. The ending felt rushed. The villains were cool. Thankfully a less racist movie overall. Though they talked shit on hillbillies and rednecks a lot.

48 Hrs was a mostly unremarkable film that was mostly saved by Murphy’s endless charisma, with Nolte being his perfect scene partner. The racist overtones of the film building to Murphy lecturing a confederate bar was a truly excellent scene, but it had a lot of repeated beats just to keep justifying a few action scenes. So now, after all the growth of both characters in the previous film, we’ve soft reset them and made them antagonise each other again,…

Another 48 Hrs is basically the game given away in the title. It is basically the same movie again in some respects, except the 48 Hrs concept is removed. 3 bikers kill a bartender and 2 police officers out in the desert and ride to San Francisco to take out Reggie Hammond once he gets out of prison. Oh god they did the “Roxanne” bit AGAIN. It wasn’t funny the first time. This is a serviceable but forgettable sequel to a movie I already thought was pretty generic plot wise to start with. Aliarvostettu teos sekä näyttelijöiden että ohjaajan filmografiassa. Erittäin onnistunut buddy cop elokuva. Suoraviivainen, enemmän räjähtävään toimintaan keskittyvä jatko-osa jossa Nolten ja Murphyn kemia on edelleen kohdillaan.

This film attempts to recapture the magic of its predecessor but struggles to deliver the same excitement. The chemistry between the leads feels forced, and the plot lacks coherence. Fresh out of prison, Hammond is stuck back with Cates for another 48 hrs as they try to outrun the hits on them from the allusive drug lord ‘The Iceman.’ Is this the worst 48hrs after being released from prison? Shot at, transport bus flipping 17 times, car blown up, threatened with a knife, and no money. A serviceable sequel, but feels a little “cash grabby” at times. Sad to find out the studio made massive, editing cuts from what was originally a 145min film. The 95min runtime definitely affects a good overall story. Nolte and Murphy’s buddy-cop chemistry shines through the torn apart film.

A fun buddy cop movie with great chemistry, solid action, and plenty of laughs. One of the things I love most about these older films is how real they feel. No obvious CGI or green screens, just real streets, real locations, and practical stunts. I understand why that’s harder and more expensive to do today, but it’s something I really miss. Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte are fantastic together once again, and their chemistry is what makes the movie so entertaining. Watched on 4k blu-ray 👌🏻

I started watching this movie like 3 years ago and just finished it. Obviously I start from the start. I had a feeling I had watched it before but I guess now we’re watching it for the second or third time. I think I’ve watched the first one, not the second one and I think that’s why I always put off finishing this because I remember what’s in as funny as the first one. Dare I say I liked this a bit more than the first film? The plot is admittedly not the best and is pretty paper-thin, but I had a total blast with this. The theatrical release of ANOTHER 48 HRS. was trimmed significantly a week before its release, so while some elements of the plot might not always feel complete, Walter Hill’s sequel is a fun, adrenaline-pumping action-comedy buddy caper. Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte reprise their roles from the 1982 predecessor, and are their typical commanding selves, but it’s the action sequences and neck-break pacing that makes this a highly entertaining crowd-pleaser. 4 / 5

I was genuinely surprised with how well Another 48 hours landed with me. I had seen the rather poor reviews before watching and I didn’t know what to expect. A fun sequel with a bit of bad timing. Murphys star power was to much in the late 80s that it kinda overpowers the story. The action is great. The chemistry between Murphy and Nolte is still there, but maybe it came a little later than needed. Walter Hill still fucking rules though

As to be expected it’s plenty more bombastic than the original, but it’s also darker and grimmer. A little too strange to be completely written off, and Hill take a few opportunities to sneak in Western vibes, most notably the opening shootout — but far from the finest hour of anyone involved

Released June 8th 1990. Directed by Walter Hill, written by John Fasano, Jeb Stuart, Larry Gross, and Fred Braughton. Starring Eddie Murphy, Nick Nolte, Brion James, David Anthony Marshall, and Andrew Divoff. Coming back to this film, I can’t really say too much about it, other than the jokes don’t really hold up and the action is pretty lack luster. Not as good as the original (mostly because of the story and the predictable twist) but the characters are still cool as f**** and their chemistry still works. The action scenes are more ambitious and they work really well, the hillbilly bikers are a nice touch and it’s still funny and dark at the same time. The only reason I watched Another 48 Hours was to grab clips of Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte talking smack about a character named Kehoe. The governor of Missouri is named Kehoe and I wanted to play those clips on my radio station. It turns out that the characters are really attached to saying his first name which is Ben. That does me absolutely no good! Oh well, the glass elevator stripper shootout was cool, and the movie was only 90 minutes.

I challenge you to watch the last 15 mins and explain the narrative.

Despite coming out in 82, the original movie was spiritually a 70s movie. This one however is painfully 80s, i dont really know how else to describe it. The first movie when gunshots were happening i was glued to the screen and hanging on everything moment but with this one the gunfights kind of bored me 🙁

Somehow this came out as a plot heavy action flick with little laughs in it. It does have some good stunts and shoot outs that are more over the top and “comic book” like in contrast to the original which was more grounded. First half is better than the second. You do get a few pops of magic having Nolte and Murphy bouncing off each other but it’s not singing like the first one does. I respect it because it seemed to always be there on TBS in the 90s when I was desperate for something late at night.

The plot is the same as the first but with a final twist. Eddie is funny. Nolte is gruff. It just feels entirely like a sequel.

When the first scene took place at a bar with no customers in the middle of the desert for no reason, I knew I would love this.

If I happened upon Another 48 Hrs. out of context on cable TV during a sleepy, warm summer weekend afternoon, I imagine I’d be pretty entertained. Watching it as a sequel however, it’s a mercenary experience. I’d sum it up by saying this doesn’t even feel like a sequel. It has more the vibe of a remake that’s overly reverential to the source material. Beat for beat, set piece for set piece, it chugs away redundantly. I’m not even going…

I liked this sequel though not as good as 48 Hrs. Way more action in this one and even more just evil villains. I loved the bar scene with Nolte fighting and Murphy always having great comedic timing.

rewatched 48 Hrs. last week, to watch this, and I loved it. A great action movie that’s genuinely funny, a blueprint for buddy cop films to come. I was pretty excited to watch this, it’s unfortunate it’s actually pretty bad. lol It’s about the guys getting back together because Cates is possibly going to jail for manslaughter charges if he cannot pin a drug kingpin named the Iceman. Also, the brother of the criminal in the first movie is out…

Looked way better than it had any business looking, like the opening shot and the dirt bike shot, but the story didn’t make much sense and they tried to get a bit formulaic in a sequel that might have missed its window.

Another 48 Hours (90): Walter Hill does love it scuzzy, and this sequel doesn’t disappoint. The smokey neon-drenched rooms of strippers, bikers, and fake blues music connects nicely with Nolte’s gruff and Murphy’s laughs in any moment. Feels pretty truncated overall but fun. A film that was on every weekend on tv in my 20s. It’s just following beat by beat the first one pretty much so I can’t give it the coveted #LindaLikes

Another 90 minutes I’d take back.

You know how sometimes, in a dream, you’ll see these familiar scenes and faces floating in and out of focus, but you’re not sure how they connect? “Another 48 HRS” is a movie that feels the same way. The broad outlines are familiar from the original “48 HRS” and the villains and cops are all basic movie stereotypes. But what exactly is happening here? Everybody seems to be looking for the Iceman. The Iceman is the criminal mastermind in control…
