this would have been way better if it was directed by Wes Anderson… my goodness. I think my rating is generous considering how boring and generic this film felt. Christian Bale and Margot Robbie try their hardest to keep this alive but the film fails at almost everything else. I will admit I was intrigued throughout the first 40 minutes of the film as it set up an interesting premise but it literally goes nowhere and just feels like a mess of events. The story feels so convoluted and it takes too much time to establish the kind of story it wants to tell without a cohesive tone. Performances and score (by Daniel Pemberton which was actually pretty solid) aside, this was a messy, tedious, and unmemorable film that feels like it’s trying too hard to be something it’s not. Easily a skip.

**sigh** Bland and shallow. Characters I couldn’t care less about and Robert DeNiro phoning it in for a paycheck. What an absolute waste of a stellar cast. Christian Bale was so good he made everyone around him look like first year performing arts students.

This movie has an absurd number of A-list stars, a.promising premise, a timely message, maybe our greatest living cinematographer, and a director who has made some excellent movies in the past. And yet even with all those outstanding components, something feels off about the end result. Sometimes you can get all the ingredients in the recipe right and still bake a bland cake. J’ai beaucoup aimé l’univers du film, je trouve que la période d’entre deux guerres est fascinante et permet une énorme liberté quant aux fictions qui peuvent s’y référer. Le film a beaucoup de potentiel, des acteurs géniaux, une super esthétique mais la trame narrative part complètement dans tout les sens, on se perd dans des intrigues secondaires et je trouve que ça alourdi beaucoup le film. Avec tout les points positifs qui jouaient en sa faveur, le film avait le potentiel de faire bien mieux selon moi et le coté parfois absurde et parfois sérieux n’est pas très nuancé ni subtil, ce que je trouve dommage

ایده فیلم خیلی ساده بود و بسط دادن این سادگی کار جالبی بود. بازیها خوب و بهاندازه بودند و زیادهگویی و کسلکنندگی نداشتند. تلاش شده بود که فیلم سبک و سرگرمکننده ساخته شود ولی اگر خردهداستانها و ماجراجویی بیشتری وجود میداشت برای من دلپذیرتر میبود.

Muitos criticam os período longos que se tornam cansativo e a história confusa, acredito mais que estas críticas venham da expectativa do grande elenco. Para mim o filme entrega o que promete, humor ácido, huma história de mistério básica e grandes atuações.

Honestly shocked when I found out that it’s not a Wes Anderson movie. But that makes sense because the visuals were not as striking as I expected. This movie has a negative reception but I actually quite enjoyed it. I’m not sure exactly why but maybe Christian Bale or just the quirkiness of it all; but I was disappointed by the ending.

Ten film ma tylko dwie godziny??? W kinie odniosłem wrażenie że przeciąga się do trzech i pół. Najciekawsze sceny dzieją się na początku. Następnie mamy dziesiątki sytuacji w których ma się wrażenie że aktorzy mieli napisane w scenariuszu: “Gadajcie głupoty”. Jedyne co muszę pochwalić to scenografia. Stroje i lokacje są klimatyczne i aż szkoda że stanowiły tło do “Yapping the movie”.

It’s hard pin point if anything actually work’s in Amsterdam. It’s definitely not the carousel of distinguished celebrity cameos and it’s definitely not the convoluted and genre confused plot that wants to be a 1900s murder mystery conspiracy comedy buddy cop love triangle war movie. The only reason I watched this was because that GIF of Taylor swift getting pushed under a car is from this and speaking of which that scene happens and literally no one gives a fuck and it’s completely forgotten about for the rest of the movie. An embarrassing waste of 2 hours and 14 minutes.

For a mystery movie there is very little mystery. Like we’re following the same question for the full two hours with nothing to make us doubt or question anything. The reveal doesn’t feel rewarding because we didn’t explore anyone or anything in the movie. We only saw the committee of the five like twice and just walked in to their little freaky hospital and then walked out. How tf they managed to acquire such a star studded cast I have no idea. Taylor Swift is also in this movie. And Christian Bale’s teeth freak me out.

Innecesariamente larga, rebuscada y me atrevería a decir aburrida. No sabe que quiere ser ni que le apetece contar, no desarrolla a sus ideas ni mucho menos a sus personajes. Las dos horas se sienten como cuatro por el tan lento avance de la trama que encima se basa en eternas conversaciones. Lo peor, el increíble potencial desperdiciado, la idea no es mala, el casting es estratosferico y sus actuaciones (junto a vestuario y otros apartados técnicos) son lo que hace que esto se lleve dos estrellas y no una.

sirvió para amenizar el viaje a ratos en el bus, cuando me aburría iba mirando el bonito paisaje extremeño. El empujón con posterior atropello a Taylor Swift fue lo mejor de la película, porque esto sólo es un festival de caras conocidas con un argumento monótono intentando emular el esquema de película con un trío de protagonistas como se hizo en Babylon o Once Upon Time in Hollywood. Al menos Christian Bale debe ser feliz trabajando con este señor por la cantidad de películas que llevan juntos.

This was a cool flick. I wonder why it was hated. It had the whimsical writing and direction of a Wes Anderson flick without the signature artistic composition. It was only hard to follow from time to time as I felt like I missed something, but it was intentionally written that way because the actors would then confirm it was in fact purposefully omitted.

Amsterdam é um filme apressado. Ele caminha, caminha, e nunca parece encontrar um rumo claro. A trama se multiplica em subtramas e personagens, mas a sensação é de que nada se conecta de forma orgânica. O resultado é um filme que se movimenta o tempo todo sem chegar a lugar nenhum de verdade.
