85 This may not be the peak of Michael Bay’s trademark toxicity (6 Underground), nor is it aiming for the level of his mind-numbing blockbuster spectacles, but even in this (relatively) tame register, Ambulance is a blast and a half. Michael Bay goes absolutely apeshit with the drone photography as if he invented it. The camera is consistently taking a step back to swoop in and re-contextualize the chaos. It makes the frantic editing all the more complex and fluid. Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza González, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II all turn in strong performances. And the action is simply sublime. As usual, it’s packed with gnarly pyrotechnics and frazzled continuity. It bursts with movement and collisions and explosions of absurd beauty.…

Everything Bay, Everywhere All At Once. Non-stop corniness, violence and property destruction, insane drone camera work, equally worshipful reverence of meathead cops and cartel guys, Gyllenhaal in full manic weirdo mode, a love letter to movies and the biggest character actor of all: the city of Los Angeles! Bay combines Heat and Speed, but what if instead of the really tight, cool crew in Heat, we had a collection of the most unlikable oafs and morons imaginable? What if instead of Sandra Bullock driving a bus, we had a hot babe who has to pull a guy’s spleen out of his guts at 60 mph? Despite Bay’s cornball jingoism and cop worship, what is this movie really about? It begins…

the fuck was i thinking watching this in an empty Los Angeles theater at 12:45 in the afternoon. this is a very special two-part episode of NCIS: LA and it deserves nothing less than a packed Friday night crowd at the Vista, hootin and hollerin each time Bay namedrops one of his own movies or calls the mayor a “Silver Lake liberal.” Whoever first told Michael Bay about drones gets a +3 to heaven.

Bay goes back to his Bruckheimer action-thriller roots and reworks decades of American heist cinema (The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, To Live and Die in LA, Heat just to name a few) into a pure, white-knuckle piece of sustained kinetic machinery that frequently feels like a lost Tony Scott movie we were meant to get somewhere between 2000-2010. Not without some minor instances of Bay’s juvenile humor, generic periphery characters, clumsy lurches into over-sentimentality, etc but in the broad strokes this is without question one of his most mature works. Instead of an evil sense of cruelty or nihilism, his deployment of maximalist destruction here actually plays into a larger, expressive symbol: a crumbling, militarized system of steel…

Everyone has already called this “the cinematic equivalent of a 5 star GTA police chase” so I’m going to call it the cinematic equivalent of a The Simpson’s Hit and Run police chase

Pretty fun action blockbuster that’s a bit too long, all the performances are solid standout being Jake Gyllenhaal. Not to diss the movie but it’s kinda sad Michael Bay looks like Michael man compared to most* big budget action films especially the ones made for streaming like the gray man ect. Plus the budget was 1/4th the gray man and it’s infinitely better, using actual stunts and pyrotechnics so the action feels like it has weight and you’re not watching…

This is Bay’s Tenet. This entire movie is one big chase sequence, like how Tenet the movie was one temporal pincer movement. As a fan of the director(s), you either love it to death or you hate it, there is no in between, no “ah it could have been better”, no. Michael Bay at his most unhinged in terms of everything, the writing, dialogues, sound design, design of each action blocks, editing, everything. I didnt know what to make of…

LMAO I immediately knew this was a Michael Bay film just from the camera movements. His signature camera pans and dynamic shots are so recognizable. You can tell it’s a Bay movie without even seeing his name in the credits.

-who brought my fucking dog on a police chase? -and who puts a big ass dog in a cop car? at no point could I guess what happens next.😭 for the first 30 minutes I was confused why it’s even called ambulance when its a heist film but yeah it kept getting more and more entertaining. loved the california dreamin’ scene !!!! also so hilarious and typical that the siblings spent the entire fucking heist arguing lmao like bro look forward you’re in a car chase!!! stop punching each other!!

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Pretty much what you expect from a Michael bay movie. Nothing groundbreaking but still enjoyable nonetheless. Only complaint I have is that I believe it would’ve done the movie well if it was 20-30 mins shorter.

This type of movie is perfect for Michael bay. Robbery, Hostage, and Cops Escape is just perfect for his type of filming. Its not the greatest film but still a fun one and love seeing Los Angeles on the big screen

We’re not the bad guys, we’re just the guys trying to get home! So right off the bat, something I love about this is how quickly it gets moving. The robbery itself is almost inconsequential. We don’t even see most of what happens before the point that everything goes sideways. The movie isn’t interested in being about anything other than what it is about. It isn’t a bank robbery movie, it isn’t about planning a heist or anything. It’s about…

2nd watch has me convinced this is Michael Bay’s best movie since Pain & Gain? The combination of Covid and a somewhat realistic-ish (for him) screenplay really focused his whole thing up! Bay’s always visually innovative but I only really get into his movies when his fantasist Bayhem maximalism butts up against real world stories and characters. You need that tension for something to develop that’s more than just sound and fury. Zemeckis has become like this too. Wildly unbelievable that a working EMT would be caked in so much make-up for the entirety of her adventure, an increasing pet peeve with Bro filmmakers.

I might not love all his work, especially the latter transformer films but, it’s crazy how disrespected Michael Bay is. A lot of people claim he’s all spectacle but he’s delivered some of the best films about people and the human condition, peaking with Pain and Gain, followed by the bad boy films and now this. This was a genuinely wild and explosive film that also packed a lot of emotional punch. You could tell how important it was to…

J
A strong argument against the increasing militarization of law enforcement. Probably not what Bay was going for, but it’s all there in the text.
-
C
Pretty standard heist movie except it’s also Speed sort of. Incredibly Michael Bay with limited exposition and lots of explosion
-
D
It’s always hot to see Jake Gyllenhaal playing a violent character.

G
bay’s most genuine film, still has the in your face #BAYHEM style that i know him for but the cinematography and even the latter part of the script leans into straight up late tony scott levels of sincerity, there’s some heatcam stuff in this that i’m always a sucker for and i know everyone has said this but genuinely whoever introduced michael to drones should have a seat reserved in heaven

A classic in the sick nasty genre. A score that’s crying out for Ludwig Göransson (though Balfe does his own FAST CARS shit and it’s, as the headline states, sick nasty)

This movie is dog balls. I thought it would be like somewhat good with Jake Gyllenhaal in it but it’s just so bad everything about it is so so bad his acting is just like goofy bad like over exaggerated. The story is so bad. I highly recommend not watching this movie

The core of Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González is obviously really strong. But this was genuinely the longest 2h16m movie I’ve ever seen. Unbelievably thrilling, but wow a good portion of footage could’ve been cut. Not to mention Michael Bay overused the fuck out of the drones. Makes for a couple really cool shots, but I was, and still am, nauseous from watching this. Fun ride though! (Smaller Jake Gyllenhaal discount for this one since he shot a dude wearing a Josh Jacobs Raiders jersey)

This movie kinda rocks. Michael Bay discovered drones and has no idea how to act. 2 hours of pure madness. Writing off the absolute walls. A great Sunday “let’s watch something we can kinda tune in to randomly and watch insane action” film

GOT A GIFT FROM ABOVE, AND THE EYES OF AN EAGLE. WHEN IT COMES TO BLOWING UP, NO DIRECTOR IS MY EQUAL! Michael Bay rocks dude the drone shots were hilarious every time

Oh Jesus Christ, is this real ?????is this even could be real ??? Oh man this looks like a video game with full adrenaline rush chasing and action sequences . It would’ve been very tough for them to picturise those sequences , I bet most of the scenes were shot outdoor and that looked very realistic .
-
O
Man, this really did not do it for me. It feels almost completely soulless while making an insultingly shallow social commentary on the failure of American institutions. Additionally, there is really just so much terrible dialogue in this film that serves no purpose at all. I do not blame these actors for not trying very hard, but they are really not doing a lot to save this. I am a die-hard fan of Jake Gyllenhaal, but even his unhinged performance…

This movie sucks man, it’s awesome. Why the fuck does Michael Bay even bother with a script, with dialogue, when he’s so evidently uninterested in any kind of human exploration? The camera slides drunkenly around exchanges which really ought to be grounded and impactful, flashbanging us with copious lense flares so all in all we get next to no understanding of what is being said or why. One can argue until the cows come home that to expect such a…

Schmaltzy at times, and even sad, this Michael Bay actioner is a blast from start to finish. Jake ghyllenhaal is hamming it up big time. Love how insane he gets here. Going for it. The drone shots are fast and kinetic. Propulsive, even. LA River getting some time in the sun too. More people need to see this! Love it

Two panes of broken glass wasn’t enough so they had to run into the glass truck too? I feel like the only excuse to make this movie is the cool drone shots. Not the doctor zoom call! 😭 “🎶SAAAAAIILINGG!🎶” 🗣️🗣️🗣️ Danny, noooo!!! 😭😭😭

Nobody manages to insult the audience’s intelligence just like Michael Bay. There’s a special level of stupid only he braves to venture into. It’s distinctly 𝓪 style though, so half a point for that. Did not know this existed and was by Bay when I jumped into it already running, but a few minutes are enough to get this special feeling of being treated like a drooling idiot that only he manages to instill so reliably. Even after this recognition, there is nothing to enjoy about this.

Half a star for the heat shootout

I’m usually not one for action movies but I really liked this. 90% of the movie took place inside of an ambulance, as the movie suggests. The shots were really good and it seemed fairly realistic, chase wise. Out of all the other action I’ve seen I think this is better than most. This movie had more too it than just crime and action. There was a very sad story behind Will’s choice to commit the robbery. In the end…

Horrible from the very beginning. They want me to believe he robbed 27 banks before this one when this job was so terribly planned?! Makes no sense. Also don’t get in the kitchen if you can’t handle the heat, WILL! 👎🏾👎🏾

Insanely underrated!! Going into it I thought 2 hours and 15 minutes is way too long for a movie about a bank heist gone wrong, but it flew by so fast. Not a crazy amount of stuff happens as they’re in an Ambulance 95% of the movie but it was still so fun to watch. I think it’s crazy the ratings for this aren’t higher.

Jake Gyllenhall watch party ! No but this one is seriously a downgrade from Nightcrawler 😭, i still kinda enjoy the goofiness of his character in the role mainly b/c of the charisma of Jake Gyllenhall but on a real note FAWKKKKKKKKKK his brother dawg 🤦🏾♂️ just selling plays left nd right in the whole movie, nd then for him to basically switch up on his brother by the end ??? 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾

Cool movie. Jake Gyllenhaal And Yahya Abdul-Mateen are top flight in this movie. Perfectly compliment each other in this movie as brothers with tense action and vibes like the movie Speed.

turned off 30 minutes in imagine the camera is doing a backflip onto a dolly shot to be picked up by a drone to then be dropped into a handheld, okay now picture that happening during every scene even a normal conversation between two people wanted to throw up while I attempted to watch what was happening on screen

Disappointed beyond limits. Seriously man, this is the dumbest movie I have seen this year. I dont understand whats literally going on in this movie, dumb stunts and a stupid plot. Basically I am not a huge fan of Michael Bay, but seeing these reviews I thought it would be better than his previous movies. This is even worse than 6 underground.
