I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of limbs that get cut off in this movie.

Digital and corporeal self-actualization—our relationship to our shells and the complex power structures that wield control over them. Color me surprised to find a YA dystopia interested in narrative economy, visual detail, and character. (Thanks James Cameron?) The production design that evokes Japanese transhuman cyberpunk and repurposes it in a post-war, American refugee context is unbelievably gorgeous, as is the kinetic fluidity of the action. First time in a while I’ve been sequel-baited and actually cared enough to want to see more. Bring on Alita 2.

Cameron’s tin-eared writing plus Rodriguez’s juvenilia is as dire as you’d expect, but Cameron’s design and FX perfectionism plus Rodriguez’s simple (and finally well-employed) economy is as tantalizing as it sounds. This is all over the place, an often eye-popping (sometimes literally) YA dystopia with some of the clumsiest writing and performances of either filmmakers’ careers and a halting narrative that promises alien wars and global socioeconomic upheaval but delivers robot swordfights and Rollerball tournaments. A mess I will probably sit through a few more times.

one thing I learned from ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL is that human skin faces stretched over giant robot bodies are literally my least favorite thing in the world.

“Whose body is this?” A film about bodies, identity, digital performance and engineered selfhood. A film about dysphoria and the joy of altering yourself to match how you feel. (Cis ppl do not interact!!) Rosa Salazar gives one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in a film. I do not trust anyone who doesn’t at the very least find something of interest here. I found much more than that. Edit: I wrote a piece about some of my feelings on this wonderful film

The tuff as hell fits Mahershala Ali was wearing in this film only saddened me about how we were ROBBED of seeing him as blade….

De los mejores live action de un anime, aún nos deben la secuela. Tiene del mejor cgi en la filmografía de Robert Rodríguez Nota: 7.8/10

Corny script but this world is so damn cool. It’s unfortunate that this is the closest Mahershala Ali got to having a Blade costume in a movie

this film was decent. i’m not really into sci- fi films but this was actually okay. started of quite slow but as the film progressed it got better. the ending was disappointing as there could of been a lot more to offer. the acting was okay nothing crazy. overall a okay watch

Alita: Battle Angel is an imaginative science fiction adventure that especially impressed me with its 3D presentation. Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron created a visually stunning fairy tale that feels almost made for the third dimension. Very few 3D movies manage to create such spectacular depth in almost every scene. Iron City feels incredibly tangible and alive, while Alita herself is brought to life through excellent CGI and motion capture technology. From a technical and visual perspective, this is still…

You’re so scary please get smaller eyes Action was actually really sick but the middle school drama writing really irked me. Lame sequel bait. Some weird casting choices with Christoph Walz and Edward Norton. I really wish Alita had a normal human face mocapped onto a cgi body like the other cyborgs, her giant eyes were really distracting. This film shares a lot of good things from Speed Racer (2008) but I think takes itself too seriously to be great.

I would’ve preferred it to be animated, tbh. The cgi on the protagonist in particular really didn’t help (perhaps I am cynical having watched it in the era of AI generated images). The writing was also…not great. Still, the worldbuilding was fun and I found myself wanting to see more Motorball. I’m mildly curious about the source material, to see how it compares, but I’m not particularly interested in the ending (again, the world exploration was more fascinating than the…

Alita: Battle Angel gave us giant anime eyes, cyborg kung fu, Motorball, a whole floating city to explore… then ended like the sequel was coming next Tuesday. Seven years later, I’m still looking up at Zalem waiting. Alita has a battle angel body. I have sequel abandonment issues.

Happy 31st birthday to the beautiful and talented Dua Lipa! 🎂❤️ Dua recorded a song for this movie called Swan Song. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Dr. Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate…

The last time a Japanese anime/manga was adapted for an American audience, we got the horrors of Ghost In The Shell, the worst movie of 2017, so naturally, I was very skeptical of this movie, an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s manga series Gunnm, despite its’ star caliber writing directing team of James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez, two very unique visionary filmmakers coming together on this, a project that 9 times out of 10 usually ends up faltering at the box…

Spotted this on TV and decided to watch it again. I really dig this movie, even though I don’t usually go for this kind of thing. I think what separates it from a lot of big budget CGI action movies is the genuine sense of jeopardy. You feel like anyone could get killed at any time, and people do. I’m surprised that it’s a 12A movie because it’s pretty dark and brutal. I also just love the whole thing of…

I love a zippy movie as much as he next guy, but when your 2 hour movie feels like 1 hour (and on a plane no less) then I think it starts to become a bit of problem (a problem that could be remedied ten times more moon war).

It is hard to translate anime into live action. But this i think did a decent job. But not really having a frame of reference could say something. It was a fun movie and thats all I can ask for.

We need more films like this. Visually stunning and is enjoyable at times but a poor script and a poor acting performance from the male lead means this film will never get a 2nd like every other sci fi.

Okay I can’t be the only one expecting to see a reference or nod to cyborg Eddie from the iron maiden album somewhere in time. I absolutely love the david and goliath story told in the first and second act as it perfectly sets the ball rolling for an absolutely phenomenal sci fi movie. The CGI is great too and so are the performances with the characters being one of the best parts of this movie. Overall this movie is…

A dull version of a Spy Kids movie for the young adult/anime audience but without any of the charm. Robert Rodriguez is such a fucking hack.
