A very safe and ‘nice’ film. Rickman was definitely a better actor than director. Even Winslet doesn’t get much opportunity to shine. And there’s the worst fake orgasm you’ll ever see outside your own bedroom!

Kate Winslet and Alan Rickman talking about roses is pure bliss. I wish Kate Winslet being a 17th-century landscape designer had been spun off into an entire series.

I am LIVING for Stanley Tucci playing Philippe d’Orléans (my favorite queer historical figure). I love this movie for addressing that he had a male lover!! Also, Alan Rickman is just an amazing man. EVERY SCENE WITH ALAN WERE AMAZING I AM SHOOK BY THE ROSE CONVERSATION.

A Little Chaos. 2014. Directed by Alan Rickman. The late Alan Rickman’s triumph, masterpiece about the construction of the gardens of Versailles. As Kate Winslet (Sabine De Barra) and Matthias Schoenaerts (Andre Le Norte) talents come together they give birth to a landscape architectural marvel. In turn, Sabine and Andre heal from their prior failed marriages. Rickman’s direction of this poetic script was marvelous. Each time we (Allison and I) watch this it plucks my heart strings and I usually cry tears of joy. The critics may lack the ability to see beauty but, we will be forever enamored by A Little Chaos as this is the principle that Sabine used to describe her half of the plan that became…

Two star for the beautiful Peter Gregson music. Half a star for my dude Matthias Schoenaerts , I Know he deserves all the stars but I’m rating the movie so forgive me. Stanley tucci as a Gay dude was so correct cause he gives the vibe. I just wonder how the king managed to avoid drowning himself into those two big balloons of madame De Barra! Two brilliant quotes from the movie that I liked: “Your heart beats fearsly Mine just thicks I have non gifts to such a wonder” “So kind😌 So quick💀” RIP to Alan Rickman and Helen McCrory (Polly Shelby) 🖤

Special place in my heart for this one. First ticket I ever bought to the London Film Festival and have been going every year since. Took my Dad – he’s not the type to get starstruck for anyone but when Rickman walked past us to get to the stage he was beaming. We both had a wee cry. It’s what movies are all about, really. ♥️

A female landscape gardener overcomes the demands of her new role, and her heart in this comedy drama directed by Alan Rickman. This is Alan Rickman’s second feature film as director after he made his directorial debut with The Winter Guest in 1997. It’s also the second collaboration between the director and Kate Winslet after the two worked on the hugely enjoyable Sense and Sensibility, which is one of the best movies from 1995. A Little Chaos is set in…

Your favorite actor doesn’t have to be your favorite filmmaker, and that’s totally fine. Solid direction and acting from Alan, lovely costumes and cinematography and a story with a modern twist lead to a well-done costume drama. Nice to see Jennifer Ehle getting to work in the genre again. And Stanley Tucci delights in playing gay characters, which is his right I guess.

Hermosa. I need to start sleeping on my ratings before hitting those stars. I originally pegged this at 4-stars, but it’s not that. As much as I love Rickman, who is a fine director, and did enjoy the many bits around the margins (Tucci, the scheming Helen McCrory, acres of wigs), there is a strangely flat performance from Kate Winslet – who is typically very good – at the centre of this thing, and Schoenaerts isn’t doing much to help. Over 300 years and several revolutions stand between the creation of the Gardens of Versailles and today, and they still hold a reputation for being among the most beautiful gardens in the world. I never thought about how they were designed before this film. I liked that the film cracks wise at the beginning that this is a work of fiction (except that the portion of the garden in question exists). It did get me thinking about the 1898 Chicago…

This could’ve been awesome and had all the fixings to be something I would be obsessed with but something was off. HOWEVER, I do love seeing the loml, Mr. Gabriel Oak, with sexy long French hair. And it’s always a pleasure whenever Kate Winslet is in on my screen. But maybe we could’ve made that final garden scene a bit more whimsy and magical?? Although that song they played during the garden scene made the entire movie worth the watch.…

can you tell I just got back from a trip to Paris and Versailles and also have had a lifelong crush on Alan Rickman 😒 sadly this movie didn’t quite do it for me. but I did go down a Wikipedia rabbit hole about the history of landscaping and planning in France. did you know Andre le Notre came from a whole family of gardeners? and his grandfather planned the Tuileries Garden?! man. I’ve never seen landscaping quite at that…

It’s just gardening with a lot of feelings and talking and Alan Rickman appears once in a while as a special treat to hold our attention. Holy corsets!

Need to watch this repeatedly! My favorite spot was the shrine in the country with all the wind chimes, glass and ribbons. I want to build that!!!

Pretty to look at but kinda lacks focus tbh. Didn’t feel like i got much of Sabine’s story or the romance itself so it left me feeling a bit empty. Still pretty tho

Well meaning but rather incompetent fluff. The film just needed a bigger budget and… actually to shoot in France, where the film is set. As it is the film’s design is a bit nonsensical, Winslet looks a bit confused, Schoenarts looks a bit dumb and the whole thing is a bit awkward. A shame that the great Rickman bowed out in this underwhelming manner.
